New headcanon that Elise was a real person and maybe a childhood friend of Mori’s when they were both young, but she died and after she did his ability showed up to him in her shape to console him and convince him that he misremembered it. But eventually he does find out that the real Elise is dead and the one he’s been talking to is just a figment of his imagination.
And this is the Elise we meet during the war, before she was molded after Yosano and Dazai. She’s still of the same age she died at and the reason why her personality is so stale is because Mori slowly forgot or chose to suppress any memories of her.
Even better if her death was either partly his fault or in a way that will lead him to blame himself for it, and that would just add to the whole idea of how Elise symbolizes guilt.
