so in the first season of Fantasy High we learn from Gorthalax that Solace was originally a Halfling country that was colonised conquered by humans and turned into a country for all races. putting aside the "allegory" of the highly conservative, racist, bigoted cult of harvestmen who have members all over the country, that consider themselves the "true" followers of one of the human gods in a country they conquered, and now hate for its diversity despite being the descendants of the original invaders - Bud Cubby and his family are halflings. Bud Cubby, who is employed by the government as a postal service worker, whose entire family are openly Anarcho-Socialists who merely present themselves as law abiding citizens, and who immediately has a molotov cocktail available to help break some teenagers out of a jail cell because he considers the police to be an occupying force.
Bud Cubby isn't just a badass postal worker who says acab: he's a member of a colonised race that is commonly thought of as sneaky and untrustworthy and treated as second class citizens, who poses as "one of the good ones" to avoid detection and presumably government surveillance, who's actively fighting against the active oppression that is being a descendant of a people that were violently conquered, who wants to take down the government, and who doesn't just say acab but lives by it. and idk I just think that's really interesting and cool to ruminate on
"Laws are threats made by the dominant socioeconomic-ethnic group in a given nation. It’s just the promise of violence that’s enacted and the police are basically an occupying army. You know what I mean?"
(i'm watching dropout 24/7 so be ready for a lot of fantasy high posting)
BUD SPOTTED
YOUR ARGUMENT IS BAD AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD, FAIRY/WALRUS DROPOUT MERCH EDITION
I've said this in replies to a few people that comment on a post I made, but I feel like at this point I might as well make it its own post.
People are upset about Dropout doing a crossover thing with The Rookie, which is a cop show. (Some people have also said the show is essentially MADE by the LAPD, but I haven't been able to find anything confirming that; one of the executive producers is also a cop, but from what I can see that's a meaningless title tacked on for marketing because the show is "based on" (not based on at all) this guy, and regardless it's just him as a person not the LAPD as an organization.)
Anyway, regardless, copaganda isn't great. And to be clear, I'm not suggesting I think people are bad or wrong if they're bothered by Dropout doing this, even though I'm not personally upset about it.
But if you're going to be against it, please stop using this as your big argument:
Guys that's a mug. It's a mug with a quote from a halfling NPC in a role playing game show. This is not an official statement of policy from Dropout.
About a dozen people (many of whom were directly replying to me or tagging me) have said some very minor variation on "but Dropout has marketed their whole company / made lots of money on saying cops are bad" and it seems that they're all referencing this mug and a shirt with the same quote.
You can just say "copaganda is bad and I'm disappointed that Dropout is doing a crossover with a cop show". That's fine. Why would you instead hang your argument on a fucking mug? It's merch! They also have a shirt that says BURN TOWNS GET MONEY, but I don't think anyone is saying that Dropout supports arson.
You could potentially reference the mug within a better argument, like "Dropout's decision is surprising, and given the success of the mug/shirt with the anti-cop message from that halfling you'd think they would be more worried that their fanbase is likely anti-cop" or something.
But that's not what these people are doing. They're saying that the mug's very existence makes Dropout - the company - into a hypocrite. Guys. They are a company and it is merch. For the love of god.
Imagine showing up for a game of D&D, and the DM drops this absolute banger of a critique on the fly.
And how correct you are, Bud. We are feeling your words down to our weary bones these days.
‘You would reject someone from your life over a political opinion?’ has got to be one of the most wildly disingenuous, purposely obtuse, frustratingly stupid questions I have ever had to hear with my very own ears. I do not believe you are asking in good faith, I will not even begin to entertain the misguided premise of your question, and how were we ever acquainted in the first place cause this is the ethical BAR for me.
The question after ‘who did you vote for?’ is ‘why did you vote for him?’. THAT is why I cannot with you. Cause the answer is always appalling, indecent, and ignorant.
Anyway. Thank you Dropout for being ethical media that I can consume during this garbage moment in history. 🔥 🥓

"Do you have a fucking warrant?"
Somewhere, probably nearby, Bud Cubby is very proud.
