Summary:
Alex's face softens. "I know you're careful. Sorry, it's just hard not to worry. But back again to my initial question. Do you know what today is?”
"I don't know, Alex. It's February 13th, so I didn't forget Valentine's Day or something. We ruled out the thing at Isobel's, and it's still Saturday. No matter how much I'm wrecking my brain, I can't think of anything else. Please tell me I didn't forget anything important."
"No, you didn't, no worries. I'll put you out of your misery. What do you think about taking a short trip across town?"
This is my contribution for day 3 of @malex-cupid. 3.3K of fluffy Malex.
Dialogue prompt: “Do you know what today is?”
-------------
“Do you know what today is?”
Michael pretends to think about the answer before he says "Saturday."
Alex rolls his eyes. "Smartass."
Michael smirks. "Takes one to know one."
Alex smirks back. "I'm badass," he says.
Michael laughs. "True."
"Come on, Michael, try again. What day is today?"
Michael groans. "It's that stupid thing Isobel roped us into attending, isn't it? I thought it was next weekend."
"That one is next weekend. Which reminds me, we have to get our suits from the cleaners." Alex pulls a face. He hates wearing formal attire, especially ties. But Isobel would have their heads if they didn't dress up for her fancy party.
"We'll get through it together, and any chance we get, we'll hide in one of Isobel's guest rooms, and I'll suck you off." Michael waggles his eyebrows suggestively. He looks ridiculous, but it makes Alex laugh.
"If she catches us, we won't live to see another day," he points out.
"Well, I'll have to be fast then. It's unfortunate that she also can pick locks with her brain these days."
"You're not going to suck me off in two minutes, if anything I'll claim that my stump's hurting and we can go home early, where we'll take our sweet time sucking each other off."
Michael looks worried. "Has your stump given you any trouble lately? Should I take a look at the prothesis?"
Alex smiles. "No, Michael. It fits perfectly, and for some reason it even adjusts to the occasional swelling? I have no idea how you engineered it, but it almost feels as if the prosthetic becomes a part of me when I put it on. It's incredible, and it has given me that much more quality of life." He leans closer and kisses Michael, soft and sweet. Michael beams.
"I'm so glad. The material is so cool, I'm glad that I decided to give it a try, and now that I no longer need to rebuild a working console, I want to find out what other useful things I can build using it."
"As long as you are careful and—," Alex starts.
"Yes, I know," Michael interrupts him. "No worries, I've been paranoid about hiding who and what I am my entire conscious life on this planet. I won't risk it now just to brag about an invention that includes alien tech."

“Look if you don’t want her she’s going to the pound,” Wyatt says, “she’s too fat to be of any good on the farm.”
“Do you need to think of the most dickish thing to say? Or does it just naturally come out of your mouth?”
Wyatt’s face screws up but Alex snatches the leash from him before he can say anything. He’s done listening to assholes with the last name Long. On the other end of the leash Buffy regards him with a mix of wariness and disgust. It’s more tempting than Alex would like to admit to shove it back at Wyatt, but his grip tightens on the leash.
“Glad you got a souvenir,” Wyatt sneers and storms off.

Michael and Alex get a dog. A continuation of the Resentment-verse. And I’m stealing Buffy Manes back.

“What do you think about us getting a dog?” Michael finds himself asking one night, as he scoots back against Alex. He’s thought about this a lot, about how, with work, classes, and alien drama, he’s still gone far more than he’d like. He’s thought about how Alex is home alone and how Alex isn’t particularly good at taking care of himself.
Michael is aware that Alex forgets to eat when he’s not around, that he puts pretty much everything else above his own needs. But he’s so much better at taking care of himself when Michael is there. Michael thinks it’s because he has someone else to take care of too.
“Mimi told me I’d have a beagle,” Alex offers, his voice quiet. Michael can feel Alex’s breath against the back of his neck and it makes him shiver. Alex has worn him out completely and he still wants more.
“Maybe we should see if we can find you one then,” Michael suggests.
“Do you even like dogs?” Alex asks. Michael can picture the look on his face, that skeptical expression, one eyebrow raised, forehead creased.
“Never really dealt with them. I just don’t really like you being all alone here,” he admits. “It would make me feel better if we had a dog here with you when I’m not able to be.”
“You know I can hold my own,” Alex seems to be smiling. “And a beagle wouldn’t be much help anyway.” He sighs before adding, “I know that’s not what you meant. And, if you’re sure…?”
“I am,” Michael replies definitively.

When Galaxies Collide
It was an average Thursday night. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Michael and Alex were getting a bit cozy on their couch in front of the roaring fire, just the way Alex liked it.
They were getting in the mood when they heard it. A loud boom and what seemed like a crash from behind the cabin.
Michael jumped up in protective mode, and put his hands out—Alex thought it was rather cute.
They raced out the front door and slowly made their way behind the wooden house with their flashlight.
There was smoke, that was spiraling around the late-night autumn fog. Being curious, yet cautious, Michael and Alex walked closer crunching the leaves beneath their feet.
Buried slightly below the ground, was a small pod. It was shaped in an oblong way and looked to be covered in a foreign metal, one Alex had never seen before. By the look Michael was giving it, it was unfamiliar to him as well.
Suddenly the hatch on the side popped open with a hiss and slowly rose up.
Michael put his hands up again, clearly ready for just about anything. What was in there, however, was not what Alex was expecting at all.
Listen......getting max back is important and all I guess but when are we going to get to meet the true star of the show, Buffy the beagle??? Inquiring minds want to know!!!
I have to rant about Buffy because I saw some old gifs and I have feelings... what tf happened to her?
It all started in 1x07 with Mimi seeing a beagle in Alex’ life. Planting the idea that sometime in the future Alex might get a dog. Something positive for the guy who had a lot of shit happening in his life. Then it continued in 1x12 when Alex said “Can it feed my beagle?” to Flint, implying that Alex did in fact get a dog.
She became a significant addition in fics and headcanons. Ppl got excited because there was something good in the cards for Alex. And this was important for a lot of people after Alex ended s1 alone and the love of his life was starting something new. The fandom knew that s2 would be hard for Alex but there was a little beagle shaped hope on the horizon.
While filming s2 CAM posted this:
On October 23rd 2019, nearly 5 month before s2 started airing. She used the hashtag “give the people what they want”, revealed her amazing name and showed her in a pic with Alex, therefore tying Buffy to him. She knew about the fandom’s desires. This only fueled the Buffy headcanons. With a hiatus as long as this one the fandom had a lot of time to built up expectations.
The season started as did the long wait for Buffy to arrive. The first few eps were hard on Alex and I looked even more forward to finally meeting Buffy and then we met her and she isn’t even a Manes. She is Forrest’s dog. And while this is not what I expected, it could’ve been fine but we see her for like 1 minute. That’s it! Numerous fics and headcanons prompted by the narrative and fueled by the show runner for 1 minute of actual screen time and she doesn’t even have ties to Alex. What even...
I’m biased but I think it’s not wrong to say that Alex had a pretty shit season. He ended the eps alone and sad. I didn’t need to see Buffy every time that Alex was around but it would’ve been nice to know that when Alex got home at the end of a bad day, she would be there waiting. A little barking light in all the darkness. Instead it feels like Alex is here to suffer.
This has gotten long for “just” a misleading dog but it can totally be connected to the show as a whole because it’s not the only occasion and Alex is not the only character where they were building up anticipation this season and never delivered on it. I feel like the fandom is less active and maybe this is a reason for it. I see fewer posts with in depth speculations about how events will turn out. A lot of ppl rather wait while only commenting and lowering their expectations to not get (too) excited. And this is only season 2. I really hope it gets better in s3 because I love these characters.
