Xander’s First Outfit: 6/10

It’s whatever, probably one of his better outfits.

Buffy’s ‘Try not to get kicked out’ Outfit: 10/10

This outfit is perfect. I love everything about it!

Cordelia’s ‘I’d kill to live in LA’ Outfit: 3/10

I hate this outfit… the pants are gross and it doesn’t feel like it matches her personality

Willow’s ‘Softer Side of Sears’ Outfit: 6/10

It’s kinda boring and I don’t like the bowling pin, but it’s a great outfit to introduce her character.

Giles’ ‘Into Every Generation’ Outfit: 5/10

It’s basic Giles. I don’t have much to say.

Buffy’s ‘Seize the Day’ Outfit: 4/10

I don’t understand why she would wear this to a club… it’s a boring everyday outfit and it’s a weird club outfit. I don’t like it.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - Teacher's Pet

My favourite thing about this episode is how it portrays student-teacher relationships. Through Buffy and Doctor Gregory, we see a healthy and supportive relationship between a teacher and a student. That is the way it should be. He is stern but he's also encouraging. He communicates to Buffy that she has value based on her own merit and not on what others think of her. Throughout their conversation Doctor Gregory builds a report with Buffy while also maintaining boundaries. He's still the teacher and she's still the student.

Then we see the entirely inappropriate relationships that Ms. French is making with her students, the ones who are inexperienced and desperate for affection (Xander and Blane). The fact that they literally made her a predator is so perfect and really cements the idea that any romantic or sexual relationship between a student and a teacher is inherently predatory.

I especially love that they demonstrate this harmful relationship with a female teacher. It's easier to spot inappropriate relationships between adult men and teenage girls, but we have a harder time identifying toxic and dangerous relationships between adult women and teenage boys. Teen boys also need to be protected from predators, male or female.

Teacher’s Pet Fashion Part One

Buffy’s ‘dream dress’ outfit: 9/10

Kudos to Xander for imagining this gorgeous dress. The red is amazing on her and I wish we could have seen it in full.

Xander’s hero fantasy outfit: 8/10

Xander in black is a vibe. I actually think there’s a lot of interesting things they did with how they dressed him in this episode. In his fantasy, he’s very suave and I think using this solid black outfit is a way of making him look more serious and put together. It also hints to the viewer that this isn’t the true Xander because in terms of style, it’s not cohesive with what we’ve seen him in before. It might be what he wants to be, but it’s not who he is.

Buffy’s ‘destructo girl’ outfit: 6/10

I like the blue on her and I think I’d like the skirt with a different top, and I might even like the top with a different bottom. But together, I just don’t really like it…

Willow’s ’primary colours’ outfit: 5/10

I don’t know why she’s in primary colours, I don’t know if there’s a reason that I’m not picking up on. I do know that I don’t like it.

Xander’s ‘B.O’ outfit: 6/10

This is the real Xander. Causal, youthful, probably the first thing he picked up at the store and bought cause he could afford it. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing special either.

Angel’s ‘you’re cold’ outfit: 7/10

Oh Angel. You give me very little to work with. I love this jacket. And okay, I understand that for plot reasons he had to be wearing the tank top/wife beater, but I wish it had been anything else.

Buffy’s ‘fork guy’ outfit: 8/10

I love this outfit, but if I could change the material of the dress, I definitely would. Angel’s jacket is what pulls it together and I kinda love that. Girly is making having a crush fashionable.

Willow’s casual red outfit: 7/10

I like it. Sometimes simple is just right. Match patterned pants to a solid colour top and you’re good to go.
