EGO - The MARC LOWE Point of bottom shelf bum wines
363. Cisco
Cisco, aka “liquid crack”, even quoted as such in newspapers:
The bottle above is Cisco’s original design, and if you look at a wine cooler bottle, like Bartles & Jaymes or Seagrams...
Yup, it looks like a big ol wine cooler.
The packaging was changed in 1991:
Under the agreement, Canandaigua would be prohibited from representing that Cisco is a low-alcohol product, from implying that a bottle of Cisco constitutes a single serving and from encouraging retailers to display Cisco next to low-alcohol products like wine coolers.
Last month, Canandaigua unveiled a new bottle shape and label design aimed at differentiating the beverage from wine coolers. The new bottle is made of dark green glass with a long slender neck and the label bears messages printed in 'bold graphics' that warn: 'This is not a wine cooler,' and on the bottle: 'This container serves 4 persons and is best served over ice,' the company said.
Canandaigua agreed to change the shape and glass color of the bottle for Cisco and to begin shipping the product in the new bottle and packaging after July 1, 1991, the FTC said. 1
This is the closest photo I could find of that updated Cisco bottle. It’s from ghettowine.com, a site about bad booze. Note how in all caps it says, “THIS IS NOT A WINE COOLER”, and the brown bottle.
I’m assuming this is the most modern bottle of Cisco today. All I can find are the bottles of cisco from bumwine.com (btw, a website that I love). These are shaped almost like steak sauce or bbq sauce bottles.

Reviewing Gallow Family White Zinfandel
This is another bum wine. It’s around the same price as barefoot, but not near as good. You taste the alcohol more than you do in Barefoot, but less than you do in MD20/20, Carlo Rossi, or Sutter Home Wine. It’s not too sweet. It’s okay. I would put it as midshelf to the other wines that I’ve tried. It’s not the best, but it’s not the worst I’ve tried either. I would rate this wine 2.5 out of 5 stars. Its just so-so. It gets the job done, but if you’re gonna spend around $10 on wine you’d be better off buying barefoot.
Reviewing Barefoot Pink Moscato
I don’t know anything about wine like terminology and shit. I just know that I’ve bought certain wines because the bottle looked cool or the name sounded interesting, or I’ve bought them based on recommendations from alcoholic friends. Barefoot is something that I tried based on recommendation. I don’t really know the proof although most of the wine that I’ve drank has been around 13-14%.
I don’t really buy wine based on proof. I buy the biggest bottle of whatever kind I want and I assume that it will do the job. Barefoot does the job. It’s probably my favorite wine. Most wines that I’ve tried have tasted like MD20/20, but this tastes like a carbonated pink lemonade although with an obvious alcohol tinge to it. It costs around $12 a bottle here, but it’s worth the money.
I would rate this wine 5 out of 5 stars. It tastes good. It’s not too expensive, and it does the job.
Bum Wine Bob's Beer Of The Week - Yuengling Lager
What can be said about Yuengling that hasn’t been said before? You all know that D. G. Yuengling & Son is the oldest operating brewing company in the United States since it was established in 1829, but did you know that Yuengling has never been named the Bum Wine Bob beer of the week? Well take a seat because that changes today as I officially give Yuengling Lager the honor of being the official…
