you choose your words like choosing a precious gift,  and spill it like glass of wine held by badly shaking hands. there's something captivating in the way you smile, all the quick and slow ways your mouth lifts, i try to make you do it often, though i always remain a distance from where i stand. i tell myself i was imagining how you search my face, looking for signs like it was a secret, your gasping laughters, amused by everything i said like i was your happiness. you may not know this, but i noticed - how the world shed into the two of us at the center when we're in the same room, always too nervous to ruin this somehow, yet still waiting patiently for the other one to bloom - i just never know what do with it. what do you do when you never receive what is so treasured you never want it to go, but too terrified for it to be true?
