Hi! I have a couple questions, one about dig boxes and one about superworms. 1) I want to give my gecker new things to do to encourage him to come out of his hides more, which he rarely does; would damp topsoil by itself in a dig box be okay? 2) He's on mealworms right now and I think soon he'll be big enough to add superworms if he isn't already (46g). Do you crush the heads of the superworms to prevent biting? If so, do they still wiggle enough to trigger a feeding response? Thank you so much!
1) Yep that’s perfect! You may want to mix in a little sand if you don’t like the consistency and want something to hold burrows better.
2) Definitely ready for superworms! (I actually feed my juvies around 15-20g baby supers!) I do not crush the heads of superworms and I’ve never had an issue with biting. Once they grab a super they crush it and eat it quickly so the supers really don’t have a chance to bite them as long as you remove uneaten (live) food in a timely manor! Supers are actually a lot more wiggly than mealworms and I have some geckos that definitely eat superworms better than mealies.
No problem!
