X Factor’s Bupsi Brown: ‘Give Simon Cowell A Break’ - EXCLUSIVE

We were all left pretty shocked last night when Bupsi Brown became the first artist eliminated from The X Factor, with many disappointed that our Saturday nights just got a whole lot less ‘nasty’.

Catching up with the singer today, after a whirlwind few hours, Bupsi is still taking her elimination in good grace, and whereas we’d be quick to blame Simon Cowell for picking the wrong song, she insists that there are no hard feelings.

Speaking exclusively to Yahoo Celeb, the hopeful explained: “Simon admitted that the song choice was wrong for me, not just on stage but in my ear as well. He feels really responsible for what happened and he’s told me that.

“We could go on about song choices all day long but I’m actually still grateful that he gave me the opportunity. I don’t want to be like, ‘let’s hit Simon Cowell on the heard with a frying pan’ - let’s ease up on Simon.”

Still, Bupsi is disappointed that her performance on Saturday night didn’t give her a chance to show her real colours, adding: “It’s annoying that I got a song that didn’t suit me as much as other songs could have.

“Because of my character and the way I have been, there was a sassiness that people really liked about me and I think they felt a bit robbed.

“It’s not nice to go out at any time but you just have to be grateful you had that opportunity.”

And one opportunity that Bupsi did get was experiencing One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson as he played the part of Simon’s guest judge at Judge’s Houses for the Overs - with reports claiming that he is gearing up to become a permanent fixture on the judging panel next year.

So, what did Bupsi make of the star’s judging ability?

“Louis is a really lovely, friendly, and bubbly guy,” she tells us, “And just so down to Earth - I thought he was lovely.

“I think he will make a great judge - he’s got focus and he understands the process.”

We knew it.

And who knows? Maybe Louis will sign Bupsi to his shiny new record label in the meantime.

X Factor live shows first eviction: Bupsi was the right call but Alien Uncovered should have been there until the end

There are certain rules of the X Factor (Cheryl will always do her ‘so in the moment’ eyes, people will never answer the question ‘What does this mean to you?’ with anything other than the word ‘everything’ etc) and one of them is that in week one of live shows, a girl band will very likely go home.

So is Alien Uncovered (note to Simon, they’re the ones you think are called Alien Nation, excellent that you’re taking such an interest) following Bupsi out to wait in the cold for an Uber home a shock? Actually yeah it is. Because if we’re defining ‘girl band’ as the blah pieced together line-up that used to be used as early cannon fodder, Alien Uncovered were no girl band. They were simply a really good band (gender irrelevant) who made me want to dance every time they performed, even if I’d just had one slice more than I should have of cheese on toast and a few too many Maltesers.

In her post-show debrief with Olly and Caroline, Cheryl guessed that Alien Uncovered might have gone because they were too polished, that we couldn’t see where they could go and she’s probably right. Keira Weathers was given the wrong song in Katy B’s Crying For No Reason when her ‘thing’ is subtle, intimate, emotional performances. She bounced back with something way nearer to her auditions in the sing-off and I fought off a Sunday night sob.

She was hit, she was miss, and I think the judges kept her in because that means there’s a chance she’ll do a Fleur East or an Alex Burke, hanging around mid-ranking and getting better behind the scenes until she nails an unreleased Mark Ronson song in week eight and the world (well you know, the 2015 equivalent of the world, 15 people on your Facebook) erupts.

Alien Uncovered on the other hand have been slick and polished every time we’ve seen them. They’ve got their look nailed, they’ve got their singing nailed and they absolutely have their song choices nailed. We know what they’ll do and even though what they do is brilliant, perhaps for some people knowing that took something away.

Could Alien Uncovered have done anything else? Barring entering in a year when there was no 4th Impact so they didn’t have to share the cool, female group vote, probably not. Because that may have been another reason they went back to watching on Saturday nights with the rest of us before we’d even learned their names. 4th Impact have had so much publicity and so much attention that Alien Uncovered - despite being one of the best groups to appear on X Factor, imagine them in a year where we sat down every week for a bit of Stereo Kicks or 2 Shoes - managed to slip under radar. Which is quite the feat when you look at their eye make-up.

Seeing Bupsi go home was sad, but only because it highlighted even more how much better Simon would have been giving the incredible Jennifer Phillips a go. But seeing Alien Uncovered - a band who were guaranteed to give a proper pop stars’ performance every week - head home with all these weeks stretched ahead of us is a big loss early on for a struggling series of X Factor. There’s only one thing to do: get the voting public to learn the routine to Justin Bieber’s Sorry from Mason Noise and we’ll all perform it for Alien Uncovered. In?
