Burkhyde for the soul🍒
Hyde & Jackie at all the major dances in the series
The Bender/Claire to Hyde/Jackie to Eddie/Chrissy pipeline:
every time i rewatch s5 of t70s i feel the urge to rip my hair out seeing how high and mighty donna and eric get in regards to letting kelso, a guy who is not dating jackie and literally dumped her, know jackie is dating hyde, when they kept the secret that kelso was ACTIVELY CHEATING ON JACKIE for months!!! god i hate this stupid little arc
ik the actors suck, but GOD do i mourn hyde and jackie everyday
Hyde: Where the hell is Jackie?
Eric: Well, it is raining outside... Maybe she melted?
Rewatching S05E11 (The Girl I Love) and noticed this:
J: "As your girlfriend, I'm ordering you to go to this party."
H: "And as your boyfriend, I'm ordering you to take your bossy mouth and flap it elsewhere."
K: "If you flap it to me, I'll go with you."
J: "Do you hear that Steven? Michael wants to go to the party with me."
H: "I'm not going to the party."
Hyde's energy completely shifts after Jackie weaponises Kelso as punishment for not obeying her commands. Before Kelso pipes up, he's energetic and frustrated. After Jackie implicitly threatens him with her past relationship with Kelso (and his insecurities about it, though she probably doesn't realise how deep those run), his voice and energy drop and flatten. He's clearly taken aback and hurt and disappointed by how low Jackie's willing to go to force him to act how she wants him to.
Jackie's acting really scummily, but therein lies the beauty of J/H's relationship: they inspire genuine growth in each other. At the beginning of their relationship Jackie's trying to use the same manipulation tactics that worked in her favour in her relationship with Kelso. However, Hyde's principled and independent – two qualities Kelso lacks – and refuses to be henpecked into submission. Jackie needs that resolution in order to grow – and as their relationship progresses, she realises that what makes her truly happy is a real partner with whom to share her heart and soul and who shares his in return, rather than a glorified lackey who buys her material goods and follows her every order without complaint. When Hyde does do things for her sake that he'd rather not, she knows he makes those sacrifices willingly out of love and respect and a desire to make her happy. With that knowledge comes a sense of security in their relationship.
It's so inspiring to follow their growth as a couple and as individuals, even if we see woefully little into their private moments. But that's all the more reason to analyse what we can 😉
