HAPPY TENTH ANNIVERSARY TO BURNING LOW 🎉
Adventure Time Burning Low 10th Anniversary
On this day, ten years ago, we were greeted with one of the most influential moments in the Adventure Time series. I wanted to talk about this episode’s impact on me and the series.
I remember when this show came out around a time when I wasn't pleased with my life, and this show was a means to escape it. It was my first time being obsessed with a series continuity, especially when this episode came out. I remember wanting to know what would happen next, waiting for months for the next Finn X Flame Princess-centric episode.
Unfortunately, that was when their relationship peaked. Later episodes resulted in a rushed breakup that left such a bitter feeling that I still refuse to rewatch those episodes to this day. However, I am happy that the show gave somewhat of a resolution in the later seasons with her rapping career.
But I've always thought of the what if. What if we had more episodes of Finn and FP doing love junk? What if we had episodes where PB started flirting with Finn literally as a means to manipulate him into not going out with FP to keep Ooo from being destroyed? What if they kissed again? What if we had a special where Finn had to travel with FP and Huntress Wizard in an awkward, drama-filled 8-episode special? What if we finally got to know what Tier 15 is!? The closest we ever had of this was the episode All the Little People, where the writers played around with the fans' headcanons.
Thinking about it now, this series has impacted me on the art I make and the kind of stories I want to tell. While this show didn't deliver on my headcanons, it did help me in knowing what inspires me and how I can share that through my art.
The hardest thing about this has been moving on, even since the series officially ended in 2018. Even after ten years, I still hang onto hope. But I have to accept that life goes on. The network has moved on to new TV series, and even the people who worked on the show moved on to new projects. Sometimes I wish this series has continued airing new episodes, which gives me that comforting feeling.
It's hard to accept that the 2010s Adventure Time era has ended. But I can hold onto the passion and have it inspire me in my art. I want to continue with my art as long as I live on this stupid planet.
Anyways, here's Finn and Flame Princess making out like horny teens.
Lawful Neutral vs Chaotic Neutral
I really love ur bubbline guide! U mentioned feedback so I’d also like to mention the importance of the episodes ketchup and burning low. I would argue that Ketchup is a lowkey bubbline ep as well bc marceline tells the story to bmo that’s obviously ab her and bubblegum and greatly hints how much Marci cares ab pb but isn’t quite ready to voice those emotions. And burning low isn’t necessarily bubbline but pbs speech to Finn ab loving someone hints to bubbline (Rebecca sugar story boarded it)
Hey! Thank you, I’m so glad people are finding it helpful :) Link again for those who haven’t seen it yet!
I agree, Burning Low and Ketchup are both excellent episodes. Burning Low is currently at a recommended importance; it’s not quite relevant enough to warrant more but I highly recommend it, for sure. The speech you mentioned is such a good illustration of where PB’s arc is at and it’s even better in the context of her relationship with Marcy. This and The Cooler are why I included Flame Princess episodes even back with the first guide, I think these really add a new dimension to PB’s character. In fact, Burning Low was probably the first episode that I watched where I went “oh my glob I love Bubblegum”. Also you’re right, it’s one of Rebecca Sugar’s gems and the world is still grateful for “Bacon Pancakes”.
As for Ketchup, it’s standing at “important” with “minor Bubbline” noted as relevance, again because of exactly what you said. It’s such a good way to give us an insight into what happened just before Elements. Bubblegum doesn’t technically appear but Marcy’s puppet show is a goldmine of open interpretation. Actually, I just noticed that I didn’t include this on the “I just want the gay” list and it most definitely is quite gay so I updated that, along with Seventeen. I still wouldn’t put “Bubbline” as the importance but I do think it’s worth a watch.
Thanks for highlighting these two, it goes to show that even episodes that aren’t technically Bubbline-centric still do contribute to their arcs and the development of their relationship. That’s the whole point of the guide, really, to let people know what the context is so it makes the core Bubbline episodes even better to watch. I added the importance tiers so everyone can decide what they have the time for but hopefully the whole list does give a good overview of not just Bubbline but most of AT.
