Our final day before heading into Scotland proper was spent heading into Scotland for a daytrip..! It was a lovely sunny day and the views were spectacular as we hugged the coast and crossed the border, passing the last (first..) pub in England on the way.  A short while along the A1 after the border we took a right hand turn onto a minor road and found ourselves turning right again and heading…

Berwick to Burnmouth

Arrived with a minute to spare at Burnmouth and caught the bus to Berwick. As the journey started in Scotland K’s trip was free (not that that influenced the decison!). After a bit of a wander round Berwick we followed the coastal path back across the border to Burnmouth. Good views to the seaward side, less so to the left. At times we were walking right by the East Coast mainline. 

Hardly any birds though did get a fleeting glimpse of a Peregrine.

Eyemouth to Burnmouth

Parked by Gunsgreen house and having checked on the cygnets we’d seen a few weeks ago, we set off along the coastal path heading south to Burnmouth. Being creatures of habit we stopped for butties at the same bench as last time.

On reaching Burnmouth we somewhat reluctantly agreed that we’d walk all the way down to the harbour even though we would have to come all the way back up! Still there was a portaloo on the harbour side so it was worth the effort.

A warm day but with a welcome breeze and clear all the way to Lindisfarne/Bamburgh. Though there were not many birds spotted along the way. However whilst sat having our final T/C we spotted a Peregrine soaring around the cliffs. Unfortunately never close enough for a decent shot in poor light, this was the best of a bad bunch from about 500 yards away,

We hung around and spotted it a few more times but kept losing it against the cliffs. Did get a pic of a Linnet though shortly after. Rained for the last 10 minutes or so of the walk. Ordered pizza and chips from the car and picked up 15 minutes later, by which time it had fined up so ate them sat on the harbour wall. K went back for an ice-cream (Kinder egg and white choc/raspberry).

Zusammenfassung meines Schottlandaufenthaltes

Wenn ich heute zurückblicke, so kann ich kaum glauben, wie schnell meine Zeit hier in Schottland vergangen ist. Es war eine aufregende und spannende Zeit. Ich konnte Schottland, die Kultur, die Schule, das Essen und viele nette und besondere Menschen kennenlernen. Ich habe an einem wunderschönen Ort wohnen dürfen. Und heute, nachdem ich einen Großteil Schottlands besucht habe, kann ich sagen, dass die kleinen Fischerdörfer einfach der schönste Ort sind und alles bieten, was Schottland ausmacht. Man muss eigentlich nicht quer durch die Insel reisen, wenn man hier lebt.

 Die Vor- und Nachteile in der Schule

Ich fand das Essen in der Schule echt lecker und kannte die Speisekarte nach wenigen Wochen auswendig. Auch dass man die Bücher und das Material wie Hefte gestellt bekommt, ist ein dickes Plus! Das Lernen an sich ist auch kaum mit Deutschland zu vergleichen. Ich finde es einfacher, trotz der Sprachbarriere, die am Anfang bestand. Auch mag ich es, dass wir während der Pausen unsere Smartphone nutzten konnten. Ein dickes Plus geht auch an die Uniform, durch die man sich irgendwie schlauer und erwachsener fühlte. Auch muss man sich nicht ständig den Kopf zerbrechen, was man anziehen soll. Dadurch werden die uniformfreien Tage zu besonderen Tagen, auf die man sich freut. Dass die Schule um 9 Uhr, in Deutschland dann schon 10 Uhr, beginnt, ist ebenfalls besser. Ich kam nie müde zur Schule. Im Gegenteil, ich war schon meistens zwei Stunden wach, hatte gefrühstückt und manchmal auch schon Sport getrieben. In Deutschland muss ich schon um kurz nach sechs aufstehen, um pünktlich in der Schule zu sein. Da ist Müdigkeit in der ersten Stunde vorprogrammiert.

Etwas anstrengend fand ich die Ganztagsschule. Ich muss ehrlich sagen, dass ich mich schon auf die Schule bis 13 Uhr freue.  

Ich würde jedem empfehlen, jede Gelegenheit wahrzunehmen und ins Ausland zu gehen. Die Sprache ist viel schneller erlernt und man kann das Erlernte anwenden. Und damit man kein Heimweh bekommt, muss man immer beschäftigt sein, denn dann geht die Zeit schnell rum. Beschäftigung heißt Menschen treffen, die Gegend erkunden, Vereinen beitreten und ein Teil der Gesellschaft werden.
