It was 1994 and Finn got framed as a rogue agent. A kill order was sent out on him.
Leland had been working in America when he found out. He was stunned. Yes, Finn had some dodgy sides to him especially with his past but this was beyond that. This was unthinkable and yet there was proof. Every morning, breath held, he checked the status to see if someone had put him down.
A higher up(maybe the director?) came to meet with Leland where he was stationed. He wanted to talk to him about Finn. Leland admitted they hadn’t worked together in years, since 1989. He hoped the superior would let him off the hook but he didn’t.
“I need to know something, Agent Turbo. Would you kill Finn McMissile?”
Leland hesitates then is honest, “I’d suggest getting a car with a less complicated relationship to the assignment.”
“That doesn’t answer my question. Would you kill him?”
“Yes.” Leland answers immediately. “Yes, if that's what my orders were.”
“Good. You know him better than anyone. I want you to find McMissile and kill him.”
“Yes sir.”
It was the assignment Leland had been dreading. It was the worst case scenario. He was flown back to London and every night he cried himself to sleep.
Leland did know Finn better than anyone. He knew all his hiding spots including the one CHROME didn’t know about. But Finn knew that he knew it. Surely he wouldn’t go there. Unless he trusted that Leland wouldn’t give him up.
There was an old hotel building with a back entrance that only Finn knew about. Or so he thought. Leland set up on a rooftop overlooking the alley. Every alloy of his being hoped and prayed Finn wouldn’t come out of that door. He had warned his superior that Finn knew he knew about that location, that he doubted Finn would be there.
Then the door opened.
“Please don’t be you, please don’t be you…” Leland mouthed in silent desperation, his superior waiting on the commline. Then his heart sank. “I have a visual.”
“Can you make the shot?”
“Yes.”
“Take it.”
Leland froze up.
“Take it.” The superior was waiting for the shot and knew Leland was hesitating. “Take the shot, Turbo!”
Finn stayed by the doorway talking with someone inside the building. He was in perfect range. Leland tried with everything he had to convince himself he could take that shot. But there was nothing in him that could.
He angled the gun away from Finn and fired. As soon as the shot rang out, Finn took off. He was gone in an instant.
“Is he dead?”
Leland let out a shaky breath but it was one of relief. “I missed.”
“You missed?! Do you expect me to believe that?! You told me you could do this! You told me you would kill him!”
“I didn’t have a clear shot,” Leland lied. “I missed it. He’s gone. He won’t be coming back now that he knows the location is compromised.”
Leland blew it and took a big risk in doing so but the superior couldn’t prove he let Finn escape. He just took Leland off the assignment which was the second biggest relief.
The first came a few days later when Finn was able to prove that he’d been framed and clear his name.
Leland never told Finn about his assignment, that he had been sent to kill him, that he couldn’t pull the trigger, or that he had come back to England at all during that time.

Not really a fic, just an idea that popped into my brain. What do you guys think? Would Leland be able to pull the trigger if he ever had to kill Finn?
