I've saved a bunch of Peter's miscellaneous photos, trying to find better quality versions, sources, etc. Sometimes I'm getting hapless, so maybe some of you might dig a little bit deeper.

My Little Pony is stereotypically seen as this show only about horses and stuff, I think. But you go back and watch their 1980s 10 minute tv show appearances, and it gets really weird. Somehow, I'm almost inclined to say I like MLP in the 80s more than the other variations, if only because it's the original and the only one I've seen and also just because it's really weird.

My Little Pony is a show with maybe an 80% female cast of characters, but that really only makes it the opposite of Transformers (which was also like 80 to 90% male). And besides the gendering, the show is oddly intense for something so soft and pastel looking. They're magical creatures living in a giant country club esque estate with three human children and a baby dragon. I don't really know how this happened, that some magical horses learned to live in an estate with some humans and a dragon, but not questioning it just makes it work. It just turns into oddly intense fantasy, and I kind of love it.

Interestingly, Transformers still often has human audience surrogate characters. I don't think MLP has had any of those since the 80s. I kind of wish they still had them, because I feel like it adds something to everything. Having human characters helps to ground this in some small level of realism, and it also just generally works for me. I can't explain it that well, but it just works.

Something that will never not be interesting to me is how developed the FS/FSA fandom (sub-fandom?) is compared to the whole TLoZ fandom.

I do think that the existence of the manga's separate storylines is a big factor, but that's really no excuse bcuz games like TP and the Oracle games also got mangas, and yes, they're developed as their own little mini-fandom, but not nearly as much as FS.

Cuz u will have like, strictly fs/fsa blogs (one of my fav examples being @rileymorph) where as other games will be more "TLoZ blog w _____ as a fav" but litreally never as devoted as the Four Swords sub-fandoms

Bcuz I kid you not, when looking at some of the fanworks, I forget that Four Swords is a Zelda game, and not just a few silly characters out there.

It's so interesting to me, I should just start posting about human phenomena that interest me, bcuz if I can't put humans (specifically Tumblr Humans) under a metaphorical microscope one day, I will be very disappointed

Truth/Lie | Favorite episode

For me, one of the most interesting versions of the Lie, which sits at the centre of a great deal of the Acolyte’s story, is Indara’s, which also happens to be the original Lie. “We will tell the Council the truth,” she says. “Mae burned down the witches’ fortress, and everyone was lost.” Now, this version of the Lie is fascinating and tricky bc separately, those two statements are technically true. Mae did, however accidentally, start a fire that burned down the fortress, and everyone (bar Mae and Osha) was indeed lost that night. But by pairing those two technically true statements together like that, Indara (to my mind, deliberately) implies causality: that Mae’s fire was what killed everyone, which is untrue. So it’s a way of technically telling a truth which communicates a lie

Hearing my coworker who likes nerdy things a lot and who is straight and married and not in any online nerd groups talk about Venom is so incredible. Like. Even before the movie came out, Venom to me was like... oh that gay monster inside that dude in the comics who I had some vague idea was obsessed with Spiderman in like... a special way. And then the movie came out and it was full on monsterfucker delight in this here part of the internet. And yet today he was going on about it as a *movie* and as *where it will fit into the MCU whatever* with like... no apparent knowledge that even the writers of the Venom comic are deep down monsterfuckers like. What a way to live.
