I was thinking about New L’Manburg... you know how everyone was leaving it right?
Quackity made El Rapids/Mexican L’Manburg and when that fell through he told Tubbo he would be leaving after their fight post festival. Tubbo just accepted it because he recognized it was best for Quackity.
Phil left, escaping house arrest, sure, but he was never chased, never hunted down. He wasn’t really stopped. They never tried to get him back.
Karl didn’t involve himself much, and that was fine. No-one pressured him. He was free to do what he wanted.
Fundy left to establish Drywaters, and Tubbo only gave him a “good luck”. He wasn’t pressured to stay because they recognized it wasn’t what was best for him and he was actually free to do what he wanted.
Ranboo mught have been afraid of their reaction to the memory book but, once it was revealed, he suffered no repercussions whatsoever. The one person in all of this who could truly be considered a “traitor” had no repercussions from the people he “betrayed”. After calming down they actually tried to listen to him, to understand him.
And then I start thinking about Tommy. About how he was with someone who did not respect him as an equal until he became violent enough. Someone who lied to him about his intentions until the very end. Someone who was supposedly for “freedom of the individual”.
Tommy left Techno because he realized he was becoming a worse person being with him (similarly to how it was being with Dream or Wilbur for him). He didnt want to leave him the way he did. He even asked him to side with them instead, to not side with Dream (imagine having to ask someone who called you a “friend” to side with you and not your abuser and get denied, that sounds quite a bit more like “betrayal” to me). He was never free to leave, leaving Techno has dire consequences, much more then leaving a country with a governament it seems.
Not only that but, apparently, leaving was such a horrible betrayal that Tommy did not deserve any sort of sympathy after hearing he was beat to death by his abuser in a cell. Techno is so bitter still about a “betrayal” that happened months ago that his response was: “Pog, hated that guy”.
And worse is that there are still so many people in the fandom considering Tommy’s “betrayal” some big bad thing, when it’s something as common as breathing, if leaving was to be considered “betrayal”. Wonder why the same moral standard is not applied to Ranboo... or to Punz for betraying Dream for that matter, or Sapnap. Is it because when Dream got “betrayed” in those situation he didn’t act like a blameless victim when destroying people homes and belongings? Is it because Ranboo only “betrayed” the Big Bad Governament taking people’s freedom away? What about when Tubbo and Quackity betrayed Schlatt? Why’s that a good thing then? Or Puffy betraying the Egg?
I don’t know where I’m going with this... I’m just still bitter about it...
