This was entirely too familiar. The nervousness, the jitters, the fear of fucking it up so bad she may never talk to him again. Chester wasn’t one to date often. The first and last time he dated was pretty recent and fuck if it didn’t break him. But Audrey was different. She knew what he did and knew he was absolutely fucking bonkers. She didn’t have to know about his past. She didn’t have to pry and if she wanted to know he would gladly tell her. He couldn’t quite put his finger on what truly seduced him about her. Perhaps her openness, her kind heart, her gentle tone—her bangin’ body—her beautiful eyes, her sweet smile. Or maybe it was just the little glances she gave him during meetings and dinners. Maybe it was how playfully flirty she was with him both over text and face to face. Maybe the way she’d patched his life more than a few times after he made a constant stream of idiot decisions. Whatever it was just a short time of talking to her made his heart beam with excitement—something he hadn’t felt since Fernanda.
It’d been half an hour. Half an hour since the text of confirmation. Half an hour since she’s said yes and half an hour of figuring out what to wear and how to do his hair and what cologne to use and getting anxiety and starting all over again. He wanted to make sure this first date was amazing since it would be the catalyst for even more dates and first times together. He wanted to adventure with her and protect her and enjoy her—he wanted to be hers. He wanted her to take her claim over him at some point and he would proudly be her number one. He looked in the mirror for the last time and took the deepest breath he thought he’d ever taken. He looked cute. Yeah, cute for sure. Hopefully cute enough for her. He ran downstairs and grabbed a basket—one of those cute lined picnic ones. He had no idea where it came from but it was probably one of Matty’s old playthings.
He made his way to her quickly, empty basket in hand and knocked on her door. Seeing her his eyes lit up, and it was pretty evident how beautiful he thought she looked. “Hello, gorgeous.” He flashed his ever-so-charming smile towards her before he set down his basket and snaked his arm around her waist to pull her closer. “I think I have a perfect place for us to eat.”
