Sam's huge stressed smile when he shows everyone Nott was at one (1) hit point after she chose to NOT disengage and get the dragon's attention, thus saving Jester's life, while everyone is FREAKING OUT :
Finishing up episode 45 and bless Caduceus for "WE'RE RUNNING! It's bad!" I would give a lot to see this entire battle sequence animated
nott the BRAVE
nott, intentionally or not, distracts the manticore from attacking a paralyzed fjord, and survives after the manticore's attacks against her drop her to 1 hit point.
🤝🏾
nott, with 1 hit point, purposely moves away from the blue dragon, distracting it from attacking an also-low-on-health jester.
Nein Again Episode 45 - "The Stowaway"
Wow the pirate arc is so good. This is another great episode, it has such a unique setting and some crazy ass encounters.
(27) Oh it's the happy fun ball episode. I guess I forgot that this is where in the timeline that happened
(32) That's what we call character growth (Nott recognizing that messing with strange objects and magic around gunpowder is probably not a good idea) (They will immediately forget this lesson)
(37) If someone did actually want to infiltrate the m9, someone just like Twiggy would be the perfect spy. They cannot resist cuteness and innocence.
(41) I love the way Beau and Fjord talk about Twiggy like a strange pet that Nott and Jester have brought home
(47) Wow I didn't remember that Sam comes up with the name Happy Fun Ball on the spot and then it sticks forever.
I'm sure it's been said before but the Happy Fun Ball is basically wizard catnip
(1:01) First Mate Beau! The Brjeaus! Also the moment that Fjord hears her ask to be First Mate and you can see him freeze out of surprise and realize how important this is to Beau and then choose, intentionally and not out of reflex, to say yes.
(1:02) Sam is so quick with these names. Balleater and Happy Fun Ball in one episode
(1:08) "People listen to me" says the man trained in torture and interrogation techniques
(1:10) "We tend to cut a rough swathe where we go" That's a gentle way to put "in the last town we were in, we killed a bunch of people and were immediately exiled and in the town before that we stole a boat on accident"
(1:17) Tbh the Traveler is remarkably like Trixie rn
(1:26) Ball bearing mention! Vaguely useful here I guess? kind of?
(1:37) "old historical name" I feel like pre-calamity is a bit more than 'old'
(2:53) The character growth! There's ancient magic books on the table and yet Caleb is worried about Fjord
Side note, I actually cannot believe that Cad is more interested in the books than saving Fjord
(3:00) Like I said, wizard catnip
(3:01) Ah and there it is. Caleb has decided that the nein are more valuable to him in achieving his goals than the books
(3:05) Oh yeah, I forgot how fucked Fjord was
(3:07) this is so real of Fjord "I have recently been..uh..putting my hands where they don't belong"
(4:00) Blink always lead to such interesting combat. Also this really is a combat for disappearing. Like actually Fjord and Jester have Blink, Cad is in the wall, Twiggy is going invisible, and that's before we get to all of popping between planes that keeps happening
(4:09) "We're running. It's bad." The iconic line!
…I'm realizing now that Jester shouldn't have been able to cast Blink since she had already cast Inflict Wounds
God I forgot how ballsy Nott was to take that opportunity attack. Sam loves to make the sacrifice play and somehow it almost never backfires.
Also crazy that Twiggy gets the kill, because it does mean that if they had all stayed instead of bailing from the start they definitely could've killed it.
In a lot of ways that combat went about as bad at it could have gone. The party is trickling in and out, there's a loose fire elemental, and they're fighting a Dragon. And yet they still manage to survive because the Nein are the best
caleb left the shiny red book behind I'm SO UPSET. he needs to be more selfish again. he cares too much abut the party. THE SHINY RED BOOK.
Nein Again music for Episode 45: The Stowaway under the cut!
During Sam's Christmas GIF shenanigans, Burial Isle from Pillars of Eternity plays in the background. A bit of a clash of moods, but it's a very pretty song.
Od Nua B plays during Matt's ad read for The Rook and the Raven and the art show announcement.
At 11:00, Exodar themes from World of Warcraft play from the start of Matt's recap through the initial scene as the Nein reconvene on the ship.
At about 30:30, Elmshore plays as Twiggy tells the Nein about how she stole the Happy Fun Ball.
At 36:48, Emhyr Var Emreis from Witcher III plays as Beau tells Twiggy that they'll kill her if she betrays them. It matches the hilarious shift in tone.
Od Nua B repeats around 45:45 as Fjord puts Jester in charge of Twiggy and through Caleb's failed Identify spell.
At 59:35 or so, Forest Day themes play as the Nein go back to business as usual. I've timestamped it in the compilation below.
Exodar themes replay immediately afterwards, during the scene where Beau asks to be first mate.
Burial Isle replays at about 1:07:15, during Caduceus's conversation with Caleb about Twiggy. Od Nua B replays again after that.
At 1:10:50 or so, Temple of Woedica plays as Caleb casts Suggestion at Twiggy.
Around 1:13:00, Family Matters plays, with the creepy strings kicking in as Caleb apologizes to Twiggy.
Elmshore replays at about 1:33:40 when Beau reaches into the HFB black hole to steal some of Halas's clothes. Emhyr Var Emreis replays next as Matt resolves their rolls to investigate.
At about 2:07:15, Silent Footsteps from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as the Nein investigate the corpses after finding the door out of the first chamber.
At 2:45:30, Commanding the Fury plays during Nott's turn as she attacks the Mimic and uses Fury of the Small. Nice timing!
At 3:16:55, Combat B plays as Fjord decides to Blink and set his Hexblade's Curse on Theshalas.
At 3:30:10, The Wild Hunt from Witcher 2 plays toward the end of Caduceus's turn and then Fjord runs to the end of the forked hallway. This is one of the heavy metal songs, with a flute toward the beginning.
At 3:37:20, For a Higher Cause plays as Beau decides the Fire Elemental's go, and the heavy metal kicks in as Jester decides to cast Polymorph.
At 4:10:10, Watch the Skies plays as Caduceus pops out of the wall and tells Caleb and Nott, "It's bad, we're running."
At 4:17:10, The Hunt is Coming plays as Nott attacks Theshalas with an explosive arrow.
At 4:25:10, Battle 1 from WoW plays on loop during Twiggy's turn and through when Nott takes an attack of opportunity, providing Jester with the chance to escape. I timestamped it in a compilation.
That's all for this week!
i’m really really high and cad just had his “we’re running, it’s bad” moment there is no higher comedy than this
