If you know me, or follow my work, you know I'm an avid supporter of Claudia Christian's C Three Foundation and the work they do in advocating The Sinclair Method of treating Alcohol Use Disorder. They are celebrating 5 years in existence this month with a fundraising silent auction and have a goal of $5k. Let's help them smash it! It runs until 17th June!

Reading Babylon Confidential, (Claudia Christian’s tear-jerking and very inspiring memoir) brought to my attention a method for treating alcohol addiction called, The Sinclair Method as well as Claudia’s C3 Foundation. After talking about the book and the staggering statistics to my dear friend Nat we decided to do something. Through my talks with Nat I learned about the documentary that Claudia has filmed together with Director Adam Schomer, called One Little Pill. It shows what this one little pill can do.

This one little pill is named Naltrexone, or its sister drug Nalmefene which is more often supplied to Europeans than Naltrexone. Nalmefene is safer on the liver and longer lasting in the system, it goes by the name Selincro in the UK and has recently been approved for use in binge drinking.

According to STAP & AlcoholInfo in the Netherlands the following statistics are true: -An estimated 10% of Dutch citizens between the ages of 16- 69 have an addiction to alcohol.

- Every year around 30,000 people are treated for alcohol addiction

-Alcohol addiction costs the Dutch government about 2,6 billion euros a year (crime, healthcare, etc)

Intrigued? I know I was after reading Babylon Confidential. One little pill, that is FDA approved in the US can make the difference between life and death and yet it’s rarely used or talked about. 

Naltrexone used following The Sinclair Method, doesn’t work for everyone (as with all medical treatments, it depends on the individual taking it), but according to the C3 Foundation website, it has a 78% long term success rate compared to most other treatments which claim a 5-15% success rate. I’m sure I don’t need to spell that out to you.  But just in case, here goes:

Surely on that basis alone, it is common sense to at least let those who want off the downward spiral of alcohol dependency know that there is another treatment out there.

The problem is that not many people know it’s available. One Little Pill can help spread awareness, but in order to give the documentary the chance to spread awareness, awareness about the documentary needs spreading. Interesting little quandary, no?

So how do we go about persuading TV stations to pick it up? That’s where I’m asking you to help spread the word about One Little Pill and take part in a write in and contact HollandDoc to ask them to show this important documentary on their channel.

The B5 Fandom already helped raise the money to make the documentary, so let’s help raise awareness of the documentary in order to get it shown to those who really need it and their families.
