This wasn’t a request but I’ve seen Deadpool 2 twice now and I’m actually in love with Cable and there are hardly any fics about him yet so I thought I’d write one while I had a spare hour. I’m sorry about all the requests I still haven’t done. I promise I will get to them soon. I completely finish school in about 3 weeks time so I’ll have all summer to be free and write again.
This was based on a prompt I found while deleting some old notes and then this fic just kinda happened.
“You’re beautiful.”
“Don’t try to hit on me right now.”
- Reader is injured after an X-Force mission and Cable helps fix her up.
This is probably also wildly ooc but idk it just happened.
Word count: 1,300ish
You were all back in the X-Jet on the way to the mansion after a mission. Domino was remarkably, but unsurprising unscathed from the mission - Lady Luck was on her side yet again. Wade was missing an arm, but it was already starting to grow back, and everyone was happy to ignore the process. Colossus had some dents but was otherwise fine. Cable seemed to be okay, he was just quiet, as per usual.
You, on the other hand, had a fairly large cut on your stomach, and you could feel yourself bleeding out, but you didn’t want to make a big deal about it until you got back to the mansion, because you knew Colossus, especially, would freak out and wouldn’t leave you alone. Thankfully, your combat gear wasn’t skin tight or revealing, so the wound wasn’t too obvious. The fact that your suit was a very dark red, almost black, also helped.
You were doing a pretty good job of hiding it until you hit a bit of turbulence and got shaken about and you hissed in pain. You closed your eyes and leant your head back onto your headrest, and took deep breaths to try and ease the pain. Cable was sat across from you and he seemed to be the only one who noticed you hiss. His eyes narrowed as he looked you over, trying to deduce the problem.
Then he noticed the pool of blood forming on the floor underneath you, and started to get worried, “You alright over there Y/N?” he asked with a raised eyebrow.
You opened your eyes, and smiled before humming and nodding in response, unsure if your voice would give away your pain.
“I need a verbal answer, darlin’. Because it looks like an awful lot of blood is coming out of you currently.”
“I’m fine Cable.” You attempted to say in a relaxed manner but your voice was strangled as you said his name, because you were rocked side to side by the landing. Your arm moved slightly from where it was in front of your stomach, and Cable noticed the blood coming from the cut.
He started to get up to look at the wound but before he could make his way over to you, you’d already gotten up and sprinted out of the open door and into the mansion. He cursed to himself and ran after you, leaving the rest of the team to wonder what had just happened.
Cable managed to catch up with you pretty easily, since you weren’t moving particularly fast because of the injury.
“Hey, just let me help you.” You heard his gruff voice from behind you, but you carried on walking to your room. He ran to stand in front of you, forcing you to stop.
“Honestly, Cable, I’m fine. I can deal with this myself.” You stepped to one side, and he mirrored you, then you tried the other way and he did the same. You sighed in defeat, and motioned for him to join you.
You walked silently to your room, unlocking it and gesturing for Cable to walk in before you. He did so and stood around awkwardly before you told him to make himself comfortable.
He didn’t want to impose so sat at your desk rather than on your bed or sofa, which were the pieces of furniture you pointed to.
You went into the bathroom to find a needle and thread, and some bandages, then walked back out and put them on the desk next to Cable. He started to thread the needle while you found some alcohol, glasses and a towel. You sat in the chair next to him and poured two drinks.
“Well, for me to patch you up, you kinda have to show me the wound, darlin’.” He smirked. You slowly peeled your shirt off to reveal to large cut on your abdomen.
“Jesus Christ, Y/N.” His eyes widened when he saw how bad the cut was.
“It’s fine. Stop gawking and just sew it up.” You rolled your eyes as you took a sip of your drink.
“Y/N you should have told someone how bad this was. You shouldn’t have waited so long to clean this up. You could get an infection. You sho-“
“For God’s sake, Cable. Just sew me up or I’ll do it myself - like I was going to anyway.”
“Sorry Darlin’, I care about you, is all. I don’t wanna see you beat up like this. This is gonna hurt, okay?.” He said as he leant forward to start his sutures, and you braced yourself, cheeks burning slightly at his confession.
He was very soft with you and tentative not to hurt you. While you grimaced and winced occasionally, you were watching him work with a smile on your face, and a vague blush adorning your cheeks.
“You know, you’re beautiful Darlin’.” He smirked and looked up at you, and you quickly looked away.
“Don’t try to hit on me right now, Cable. Your hands are covered in my blood - and I’m definitely sure that’s not good for the metal. Just finish stitching me up, and maybe continue this when I’m not bleeding out anymore.”
“Sure thing Doll.” You blushed at the nickname and looked intently into your glass as if it was the most interesting thing you’d seen.
A few more minutes went by and Cable finished his work, put a bandage over the stitches and went to your bathroom to wash your blood off of his hands.
He came back to sit in front of you, while you wiped at your stomach with the towel to remove some of the blood. He picked up his drink and just observed you.
You smirked and asked “Like what you see?”, and you were met with a chuckle from the usually stoic man.
“Well I do, now I know you’re not gonna bleed out and die on me.”
“Thank you for this, Cable. I know I could have done this by myself, but I guess it wasn’t all that bad having you around.”
“No worries princess.” You looked away, embarrassed by the nickname. “Oh and also, you can call me Nathan if you’d like.”
Your eyes widened when he told you his name, since it had been a mystery to the team for the past month or so Cable had been with you.
You thought for a little while before replying, “You know, as nice of a name as Nathan is, I have taken a liking towards Cable. It’s very rugged and cool… and maybe even a little bit sexy.”
His eyebrow peaked, “Oh really?”
You shrugged your shoulders before standing up and turning to put your glass down on the counter. You began to stretch your arms up but each arm was caught by metal and flesh, respectively.
“Be careful doll.” He spoke softly into your ear as he moved your arms back down, “You’ll rip your stitches and I’ll have to start over again.”
You felt his breath against your neck, and you turned in his arms, “You spending more time here isn’t necessarily such a bad thing.”
“It kinda is if you’re always bleeding out.”
“Well what if I could guarantee you a stay where you won’t have to play doctor?” You smirked up at him.
“I’d like that a lot.” He smiles back down at you, and you leant up to catch his lips.
He melted into the kiss, and rested his hands on your hips, being careful not to press himself completely onto you. Your hands snaked their way around his neck as you leant up further, and you felt the metal on the side of his neck. Brushing your fingers against this sent shivers down his spine, and you made a mental note of that for future reference.
It’s safe to say a few stitches did end up getting ripped that night due to strenuous activity.
A/N:this has some re-writing of two of the little angsts I posted before as a basis for the story. I hope you like it!
“Where ya headed Poison Ivy?”
“Get bent Wade.” Olive dropped her bag and flipped him a bird before pulling something out of her pocket. Two seconds and she was already done with Wade. Nathan was intrigued.
It had been a week since Wade saved Russel and gotten his girl back. Wade was in good spirits and was making the most of it by aggravating everyone around him. He was finally moving into the mansion with Colossus and the very few X-Men who lived with him. Yukio had beamed at the boy and waved excitedly at him and Ellie just sort of...existed next to her pink haired girlfriend in a grumpy haze. Olive gave the boy a smile and tossed a rule book at him.
“Big man’s orders.” She said at his confusion before picking up her bag as the pistols in it clanked together rather loudly. Nathan quirked a brow. Weren’t the X-Men against weapons that weren’t their powers? “See you around newbie.” She walked out of the room, sidling passed the older time traveler with an awkward and apologetic smile as he took up all the space of the doorway and Wade popped up behind her as she finally made it outside.
“Oh are you going shooting? Can I come? It’ll be fun!”
“Don’t you have a girlfriend to get back to?” Like always, Wade had an answer for that.
“We ca bring her too! You should see the way she handles a riffle,” a dumb, lecherous laugh bubbled out from under his mask and Olive’s eyes twitched. Along with Nathan’s. The words weren’t even directed at him and it was driving him up a wall. Olive just walked, pulling her earbuds out of her pocket and shoving them into her ears roughly to try to block out the verbal diarrhea that was following her.
It didn’t work. He just walked up and took one out, poking her in the ear and giggling when she swatted at him. The giggled stopped when an oak tree ruptured from the ground and the branches tangled around him like a cage. The sound of metal footsteps could be heard barreling down the hall.
“Arbor! What have I told you about using your power when it isn’t a life or death situation?” Colossus demanded in a thick accent. She looked at him exasperated and just motioned to Wade with windmilling arms.
Nathan looked at Wade and chuckled.
“Oh! I have an idea! That old geezer is going to be here for a while. Why don’t you take him with you? He needs friends,” the last words were whispered in the loudest way possible and Nathan felt the urge to punch Wade in the teeth. He looked at the short girl standing in the grass and told her she didn’t need to let him impose on her day.
“There’s Deadpool targets.”
“I’m in.” The words nearly flew from Nathan’s mouth and he walked behind the girl as she tossed her bag into the trunk of an old gray car and slid behind the steering wheel.
That had been six months ago.
In six months Nathan and Olive had become inseparable. First shooting buddies, then teammates, then-albeit begrudgingly on his part-lovers. Olive slept in his room, wore his shirts to bed and helped keep his undercut groomed. Finding someone he trusted implicitly wasn’t something he expected in this time and after their first kiss, he’d felt like he was spitting on the memory of his wife and their marriage.
Olive was half his age and he was technically still married. Even if no one forced them into bed together, her naked beneath him moaning his name into the fabric of the sheets as his cock drove itself into her wet cunt, he still felt guilty. He’d avoided her for three weeks before he finally came to terms with their relationship. He was trapped here after all. It wasn’t illegal for him to make the most of whatever time he had left.
He set ground rules though and the biggest one was no children. He already had one and he didn’t want to raise a child in a time that wasn’t his own. There was too much wrapped up in it. He made sure the condoms were always stocked in their room and Olive made sure to take her pill without fail. There was even emergency backup in the drawer in case something happened.
It had been a good six months. Like a dream.
Then Wade left Nathan’s device out in plane view. He’d been hiding it to keep him around. It was selfish, no doubt about it but he liked having him around and seeing the happiness on his friend’s face had quieted any guilt he might have had. They were happy, the word wasn’t shit yet. He was doing what he thought was right.
When he’d tried to hide the technology from the enraged older man it hadn’t gone well. He’d left the encounter with broken fingers and a shattered forearm.
“You son of a bitch,” Nathan spat in his face as he turned and stormed from Wade’s apartment. He’d only been there because Olive had asked him to pick a movie up that she wanted to borrow.
The instant it was back on his arm he was turning the dial, trying to find the time his wife was in, his family.
“You aren’t even going to tell her goodbye?” Wade’s voice was dripping with accusation and disgust. “I didn’t think you were a coward.”
Olive deserved a goodbye. More importantly she deserved someone who was going to be there with her, she could grow old with and have a family with. He was none of those things and when he’d found her training outside in a secluded area of the manor grounds, surrounding herself with trees, working on ways to work her power with precision, he hardened his heart. He would make her hate him.
Olive had no clue what was coming. She was hoping that what she had to tell Nathan would go easier if she had something to distract herself with. If her mind was busy focusing on her power then she wouldn’t stammer over her words and would be able to tell him she was pregnant through no fault of her own. It wasn’t like she asked the pill to fail. She thought they could work through it. If he could never go back then making a family here couldn’t possibly be such an awful thing.
Nathan felt sick as he railroaded her, decrying their relationship and saying he only used her because her legs were permanently open. Every atom of his body was on fire and his eye flared violently as he lied.
Make a clean break and let her move on. He prayed she would move on, that her memories of him tugging her curls lightly while they watched TV would be replaced with someone else’s face. The only thing he wanted more, even if he didn’t admit it to himself, was to not have to leave.
He left her alone surrounded by smoke and the smell of burnt ozone, big brown eyes staring at the spot where he had once been, the grass charred black. His heart was in pieces as he landed about a block from the home he shared with his wife and his eyes were on fire with guilty tears.
He had no clue he’d left one family behind and was walking into a nightmare.
Request: Can you please please please write something about Cable and an awkward and fluffy first date? Maybe even in a 80s!AU or something? — requested by @theweirdlunatic
Word count: 1,200ish
A/N: It’s not exactly what you requested, I changed a little bit to fit how I felt the story was going, but I hope you like it! If not, drop me a message and I’ll rewrite it!
You and Cable had both been flirting here and there, somewhat awkwardly, but it worked because you were going on a date.
You were both extremely nervous before the date. You were pacing your room back and forth while you were getting ready, wondering if you were over-dressed or under-dressed for the restaurant. Ultimately, you settled for a smart but casual outfit - and you chose right because Cable was simply wearing jeans and a t-shirt with a blazer.
Even though you were both living at the mansion, you decided to meet up at the restaurant, to avoid the awkward journey there before the date.
You turned up a little early and waited on a bench outside the restaurant. You were supposed to meet each other at 8.00, and it was now 8.10 and Cable had still not arrived. You were worried he’d blown you off and wasn’t coming at all, and you were about to get up to hail a cab back to the mansion when you saw him sprint round the corner.
You smiled at his slightly disheveled appearance, and the bouquet of flowers in his hand. His hair had gotten a bit messed up from running, presumably, since he looked to have broken into a sweat.
“I’m so sorry darlin’, I was buying these from a vendor round the corner, when some punk decided to try and rob the guy as I was paying. As soon as the guy recognised me, he bolted, so I went after him and passed him in the police when they arrived. Then I bought the flowers and ran here as quick as possible.” He spoke, and gave a lopsided smile.
He handed the flowers to you, and you were shocked to see that they were your favourite flower. You smiled at the fact to be remembered they were your favourite, since you only offhandedly mentioned it a few weeks back.
“They’re beautiful, Cable. And I can’t complain for you being late when you were busy being a hero.” You smirked as he took your hand to walk you into the restaurant.
You were seated at the back of the restaurant, fairly secluded from the rest of the customers, which you liked. The whole thing felt more personal. However, the date didn’t go as well as you’d hoped.
Your server was obviously flirting with you when he took your orders, and you could see Cable growing tense, so you reached for his hand across the table and held it, rubbing your thumb over his fingers soothingly. The server went away and you turned back to Cable, who was seething.
“Come on, you really think I’d leave you for that weasel?” You smirked and reached for his other hand - his metal one. After a brief hesitation, he brought it up onto the table to hold yours.
You had a nice conversation while you waiting, never breaking the contact between your drinks arrived.
When the server brought your drinks, you kept your right hand linked with his metal one, and you each reached for your drink with your other hands, and you noticed the server look at Cable’s metal hand with disgust. You both noticed this look and you spoke up.
“Hey, what’s your problem, man?” You scowled up at the server.
“Nothing, ma’am.” He smiled and started to walk away.
“She asked you a question. And quite frankly, I’d like to hear the answer too.” Cable piped up, making the server turn round again.
“I was just looking at your hand, is all.”
You started to get angrier and angrier, “And what problem do you have with his hand?”
“N-none. I don’t have a problem at all.” He quickly uttered out before scurrying away.
You rolled your eyes as you turned back to your drink. You were now the seething one of the pair. Cable returned your earlier gesture by rubbing your fingers gently with his thumb.
“It’s fine, doll. Don’t worry about it.” He smiled lovingly across at you.
“It’s not, Cable. You shouldn’t have to deal with that from people. It’s not fair. They look at this with such distaste, and it’s not okay.” You started to feel yourself getting emotional about how he was being treated and your eyes began brimming with tears and excused yourself to the restrooms.
On the walk to the restroom, you heard the server in the staff quarters talking to his colleagues. Obviously, being you, you lingered and listened to what he had to say.
You overheard him saying things like ‘What kind of a name is Cable?’, ‘And that arm looks like he’d kill her with it if he touched her too hard.’ And even ‘She should be with a real man, not whatever he is.’
You felt anger all over your body and marched into the room demanding to see the boss of the restaurant.
You were taken into the office, along with the server. You blew off in the office, ranting about how this server had no right to impose on what was obviously a date, and then proceeded to insult and dehumanise a veteran with a prosthetic limb. Eventually, when you’d finished, the boss had no option but to fire the server, and you thanked her before walking back to your table, to let Cable know that you were leaving. You didn’t want to be in the restaurant anymore.
He looked at you suspiciously, then he saw the server walk out of the restaurant with what seemed to be the contents of his locker. Cable smiled at you and joined you in leaving.
After explaining everything the man had said, and what you said to the boss, Cable was just stunned that someone would stand up for him like that. Ever since he’d been in this time period, he’d been considered by most as a brutish, untrustworthy individual, but you treated him differently, and he appreciated you so much because of it.
You were walking hand in hand - and you made a point of being on his left side and leaning your head on his shoulder as you walked.
He stopped abruptly and turned you to face him, before just looking down at you.
“What’s wrong?” Your brow furrowed, worry setting in.
“Nothing. Just, thank you. For all that back there. You really didn’t have to.”
You smiled adoringly up at him, “Of course I had to, I love you, and that guy was being a total dick, for no reason. He doesn’t know you. He doesn’t know how brilliant and wonderful and caring and loving you are. He had no right so say the things he did about you. Someone had to stop him.” You placed your hands on his cheeks to reassure him you meant what you were saying.
“I know, but thank you. And I love you too.” He smiled back, just as brightly, before leaning down to capture your lips.
You kissed him back softly, and it felt like the world stopped spinning for just that moment, and it was like there was only the two of you on earth.
You pulled away, breathless, and beaming, and Cable was the same.
You both just walked for the remainder of the evening, talking about nothing and everything all at once, and you could safely say it was the best date you’d ever been on, despite the issues earlier in the evening.
You live a mile down the road from Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters when the X-Force team moves in. You've got to be a good neighbor and befriend the new kids on the block, right?
Well, here it is! Chapter 1 of my Cable x Reader fic, working title Neighborly Intentions. This first chapter is mostly introductory, only 1.5k words, but that’s as good a place to start as any! I hope you enjoy it, lemme know if you do (or if you don’t)! THANKS GUYS
Yes, yes, chapter two is OUT and waiting to be read by your patient eyes! Ringing in at just under 3k, this one has significantly more substance than chapter one. I told you it was an introduction! Feel free to take a gander at this second chapter, and thank you for the comments and kudos from the last one, they definitely motivated and inspired me to keep going!
Hey everybody, I am high and trying to write chapter 2, and I’m just having such a great time
Like I’m really analyzing Cable’s character and it feels so great to have a connection to a character in that way, to understand their motivations and their issues and try to truly put yourself in their shoes to understand what they would do in a situation
I’m so invested right now, hopeful gonna post it later tonight!!
