It seems to me China Miéville wanted to avoid the grim northy Northman / fantasy ‘’Viking’’ stereotype to the point he even put inside his book The Scar characters with vaguely ‘nordic’ sounding names like Hedrigall, Guddrunn, Korskall, Braginod and maybe some other I missed...and those are walking cactus people who worship sun and likely don’t like north. Genial.

I caught one of these guys today and now I really want a Pokemon/New Crobuzon crossover, or at least some Pokemon designed by China Mieville.

Left, Echinopsis Oxygona more than 10 years old. Right Echinopsis Oxygona full of pups, I don’t know the age since this plant once belonged to my neighbor Efi who passed away some years ago. They are both on the roof of my building facing their favorite east side.

Very easy to grow, very easy to care for, rot resistant, very fast grower (flowering in about 3 years). Needs a porous compost mix (organic substances should be less than 50%). Prefers slightly acidic conditions. Very adaptable plant, loves seeing the sunrise.
