POTA Headcanons: Apes x S!ckReader
Sorry I’ve been away for so long. Everything’s finally done so lets hope nothing happens this time around. Hope yall enjoy this one!
CAESAR
-Yall be so fr Caesar is one of the best partners in the world
-At one miniscule cough or sneeze, he’d wrap an arm around your waist and ask if you’d wanna go to the medical hut.
-Even if you tell him you’re fine, his brows would still furrow in concern and he’d still check your body temperature.
-If you turned out to not be sick, he’d still keep a close eye for any symptoms anyway.
-But if you are and your symptoms get more obvious, he would urge you to come with him to the medical hut and stay with you until he’s ABSOLUTELY certain that it isnt something serious
-When he’s sure, he’ll bring you back and lay awake, brushing your hair with his fingers and watching you cause he cant sleep.
-He’s extremely paranoid that it does turn out to be terminal that they couldn’t detect with the lack of proper technology.
-Losing another mate would absolutely CRUSH this man and he knew he would probably die from that kind of heartbreak.
-He pulls you closer, his arm around your waist as he squeezes a little tighter at the thought.
-Early in the morning, he attempts to find some extra teabags lying around from your stash so he can make some tea for you
-You’re still fast asleep and cant get up to tell him where they are, so he just tries to find them himself by rummaging through your bag (in an organised manner)
-Cannot find any and gets really frustrated about it, until you reassure him that you’ll be okay with some fruits for breakfast.
-Like the gentle ape he is, he feeds you as you lay in bed with a wet cloth over your forehead that he previously uses to wipe your flushed skin before folding it up. (I’ll assume he knows a lot of these little home remedies from his life with Will)
-He squeezes your hand gently, still as worried as ever, but a kiss to his cheek from you eases his soul.
KOBA
-Koba tends to pay a lot of attention to what you do, even after you’ve become his partner.
-He definitely notices when your body language seems more tired and you look more pale than you usually do
-He wont approach you in front of everyone if you’re doubled over in pain, but will most likely check on you when you’re safely in his nest already.
-He would silently cup your cheek and you’ll watch his brows furrow in worry for the first time.
-Koba would also mutter something that sounded like “Stupid human…always getting sick.”
-Then he’d go get some sustenance for you and sit back, watching you eat slowly.
-If you’re sick enough to throw it up outside moments later, then he’d run to your side to check on you.
-I do think Koba’s the type to know to hold your hair back, because he’s seen it get in the way of a lot of your daily tasks.
-That night, he watches you sleep, his mind too fast for him to do the same. He’s genuinely worried and though he’ll never admit it, afraid.
-Afraid to lose you, afraid that he’ll go back to being his hateful old self because as much as he hates how weak he feels with you, you took away his pain. He’s afraid that if you go, it’ll come back tenfold.
-He presses his face into your arm and holds onto you like you’ll fade into the night.
-The next morning, he goes scavenging, alone this time. He rode his horse out of the colony, but got along on foot at the borders of the forest.
-He finds human buildings there, and skilfully sneaks into one of the houses. The owner must’ve been away, for the house was silent.
-He searched the pantry and drawers, collecting food into a sack he had. He found medicine and clothes upstairs and stole them as well.
-He found a couple of other things, like blankets and towels and figured you’d need them too, for the winter and for your baths.
-Before the town woke up, he took off into the trees, and raced into the colony on his horse.
-He slowly and quietly stepped into the hut you shared with him and found you shuffling around, struggling to get dressed.
-Koba quickly went to help, steadying you just before you fell and pushing you gently back into the bear furs.
-“Human…MUST rest.” He scolded you in a condescending tone, as if he takes care of himself so well, the hypocrite (that you love so much)
-As he scolded you, you had a rather lovesick smile on your face out of appreciation of how much he cares for you. He grunts at your smile, almost rolling his eyes, mirroring the way you do.
-After you fall into another deep slumber, he pulls out his “borrowed” gifts, placing them neatly around the hut. The blankets and towels resting by your nest and the food and drinks somewhere reachable so you would wake up and see them, before he leaves to complete his hunts for the day.
ASH
-He’s the type to panic a little bit when you get sick/show symptoms.
-This is because he’s never really seen a human at their weakest before as well, only perceiving them as strong beings (seeing as how easily they’ve captured and kept apes in cages for a long time before him), so its a shock to some extent when you do get sick.
-It really started when he woke up in the middle of the night, laying on your chest, listening to the soft pumping of your heart.
-Then he hears you breathing weird. He got up a little and saw you pale and sweaty.
-He panics, attempting to nudge you awake, to no avail. He brings you to the medical hut and stands aside as they try to revive you.
-He’s been around pain his whole life, but when it comes to his mate, the human he loves the most being in pain, he completely crashes out.
-He stares at the ground, not bearing to look as he imagines the worst-case scenarios.
-Of course, however way it went, you died in his head. Whether it was of the Simian Flu, or some common virus. He knew the apes weren’t equipped to handle that. Which honestly stressed him out even more.
-When you did wake up, it was with your head hammering, your heart pounding and a quiet, stressed ape by your side.
-He stared at your with his big, green (?) eyes and ever so slowly reached out to touch your face, as if you’d break at any moment.
-“…Human okay?” (He uses your name btw) He’d ask, with knitted brows.
-To which you’d hold his hand and tell him you’re okay because GOD KNOWS THAT BOY NEEDS IT after the long night he’s been through.
-Ash would lean in for a hug and rest his face in the crook of your neck, his arms squeezing you a little tighter than usual.
-You shush him gently, reassuring him that you’re perfectly fine and everything is good and well
-Unfortunately, he doesnt buy it. He hasn’t had any experience with mates before, but he has a sixth sense when it comes to being mindful of others’ emotions.
-He lets you rest the next day, going off to collect and cook veggies, herbs and spices in boiled water for you to eat (soup).
-He comes back with a bowlful and a makeshift glass of water, hoping you feel well enough to eat.
-you tell him you dont have an appetite, and he sets it aside, resolving to helping you feel better with a cuddle session instead.
-You trace your fingers along his scarred shoulder and he kisses your wrist lightly, the both of you feeling better already.
BLUE EYES
-Blue Eyes spent the afternoon doing what he usually did: hunt deers and patrol for signs of human life.
-It was routine for the young prince.
-Often he had forgotten just how much he had to lose now that he has you as a mate (he is under assumption that you are practically as untouchable as long as he was).
-This was one of those days. Well, it was.
-Rarely he is reminded that you are indeed, not immortal despite your amazing perseverance and skilfull nature.
-So imagine how surprised he was when he came home to see apes from the medical hut in his shared one with you.
-Surprise then turned into panic real quick.
-After about an hour or two, he had gotten some news. It certainly wasn’t good.
-You had, apparently, fallen extremely ill due to contracting a currently unidentifiable virus.
-They had no idea how serious it was, but was already attempting multiple methods of treatment.
-As well as taking a few cautionary meassures, like putting you in quarantine, so you couldn’t getbany worse.
-None was allowed to visit during the first day of observation.
-Noa was distraught, paranoid and worried to the point he couldnt sleep.
-He missed you.
-Literally ever ape who came across him could see that.
-It only got worse when he was allowed to visit you again.
-His soul was crushed as he saw you on the makeshift bed, weak and frail and exhausted from your illness.
-But the worst part? He knew he couldn’t do a thing about it. He wasn’t used to that feeling. He didn’t think he could ever get used to it.
-Blue Eyes wanted to shut himself away, to avoid the fact that you were sick.
-Until his dad smacked some sense into him, pulled him out of his panic attack and told him that he needed to be strong. Because you needed that right now.
-So he did. He started gathering food and pelts for you to use to keep you warmer.
-But he knew it wasn’t enough. He needed to find some actual medicine for you.
-Blue Eyes walked the border, hoping to find some humans that knew what they were doing.
-He walked and walked till he frightened a group of humans close by a river.
-Trying his best to speak, he told them about your condition.
-Fortunately, the backpacks they carried were filled to the brim with necessities, like extra clothes, towels, medicine, etc.
-They were kind enough to give him one.
-He promised they would be left alone and said nothing when he came back.
-Blue Eyes quietly set the backpack by you, and pulled everything out, arranging them neatly by your side.
-You demanded (albeit, weakly) to know how he got these, afraid he may have stolen them from someone who needed them more.
-But he reassured you with a kiss to your forehead. All was well.
-Though, he was very impulsive when it came to his love for you.
-He’d do whatever he could to keep you and you knew that.
-But you trusted him.
MAURICE
-Maurice was always an observer. A damn good one too.
-He could always tell if something was off with the apes. Or with you, his beloved human mate; even if you were a little hard to figure out sometimes.
-Which is why you knew you had to keep it quiet when you got sick from playing in the rain (he told you not to beforehand, so this was just your pride talking.)
-It was also you trying your best not to worry him too, holding back your coughs.
-But he’d already known something was up when you didnt spend as much time with the young ones as you usually would.
-You were afraid they’d get whatever you got. You hoped it was a case of the common flu. But who could tell?
-You were also seen less during dinner times, which definitely raised a few questions.
-When he visited your hut, he found you sick in bed, sneezing up a storm.
-It was also unfortunate that the night he decided to check up on you, you’d started to throw up your breakfast, lunch and your sorry dinner the night before.
-You tried to tell him you were fine, but his long arms picked you up and cradled you in a steel grip that shut you up.
-He nuzzled your head in a reassuring manner, showing him that everything would be okay (even if he was unsure and worried himself)
-You ended up falling asleep in his arms out of exhaustion, waking up in his own hut moments later with dinner already ready and waiting.
-He’s in a corner, having gathered some human clothes and blankets and other necessities that Macolm (yes they exist in his headcanons) had given to him after he told them of your troubles. -Then he helped wash you lightly with a wet cloth (since you couldnt get out of bed that night) and pulled you close, his body heat and his soft fur lulling you to a much more comfortable sleep.
-Maurice was certainly clingy when he was worried for you.
-At least you could count on him to not leave you alone for the entirety of the week.
NOA
-Noa had gone out on another hunt for the two of you to find food for dinner.
-This was less of a necessity and more him trying to impress you with his ability to provide.
-Naturally.
-After his thrown spear sunk into the flesh of the buck he stalked, he was proud of himself.
-After all, he knew he was able to bring home something that would make you proud of him too (you are proud of him no matter what though) -Then it started to rain heavily, as if a storm was coming. In the middle of spring??
-Because of this, he was forced to take cover and return home only after it was deemed safe.
-He didnt count on how strong your loyalty towards him was, though.
-After you learned of his hunt, you made your way into the forest, attempting to tell him that you had enough food and he shouldn’t waste his effort on meat that would spoil after less than two whole days.
-A thing you did almost daily, because the ape was very stubborn. Of course, you thought he’d only be a few yards away.
-You didnt know he was deep in the forest. But then again, neither did he. He knew how to make his way back home no matter how far he went.
-But you couldn’t. You were still a little new to this part of the forest and still figuring out what the land of the Eagle Clan borders.
-All the trees looked the same, so you had no landmarks.
-You only panicked when it started to rain. Which made every 10x worse since you couldn’t rely on your vision.
-Not with the thick grey clouds swirling in the sky, and not in the dewy mist of the morning after.
-Noa, however, made it home safe, the remnants of his hunt slung over his shoulder (half eaten, for he knew it couldnt last long in the humid weather).
-He got to know you went out to look for him from Anaya.
-He dropped his hunt, and rushed back out to look for you, riding on his horse this time.
-Noa found you, drenched and shivering with only the thinning, makeshift jacket around you.
-He quickly brought you back home, apologising as much as he could for making you worry, for getting you stuck in the rain, etc.
-You had to shut him up with a gentle flick to his nose, a playful gesture that at least showed him you weren’t angry at him.
-But you needed to focus and convince yourself you were fine before you could do the same to him.
-You weren’t. Your temperature rose that very afternoon, and you had no strength left in your limbs, even if it were to lift them.
-That made Noa feel even worse.
-He did everything he could to help you, shut in your shared hut and stayed with you for the entirety of your sickness.
-You wanted to complain that he was being too paranoid, but you had to admit, you loved the attention. And his company.
-And he loves you. He loves the moment of peace you give him and the comfort you seem to always bring around with you.
-Of course, he still felt guilty too. But as you rubbed your thumb over his calloused knuckles, he knew you didnt blame him.
-Noa made sure to reduce his level of stubbornness after that day, though.
ANAYA
-No backstory for this sweet thing. Because that’s how sudden it felt for him.
-You woke up with a headache, which evolved into flu, then a fever.
-Then a mix of all three, with a case of vomiting out every single intake of food.
-Anaya didnt know why. He tried to find the cause of your illness, understanding that you were much more fragile than he.
-If it was something serious, it was always better to find a treatment sooner rather than later.
-At least you weren’t getting worse. You weren’t getting better either though.
-He noticed that.
-Noticed the way you struggled with simple tasks and how you couldnt bear to look at food.
-He was practically force-feeding you water too.
-But Anaya remained patient and calm. In front of you, obviously.
-He knew if he panicked so openly, you’d never heal. He had to be strong for you.
-He also knew he couldn’t cry. Strong, warrior apes didn’t cry. Noa would certainly laugh him out of the clan if he did.
-Anaya had gone out to collect herbs (ones he’d sneak into what little food you could stomach nowadays) along with a bucket of water.
-He dipped a cloth into it, wringing it out before he dabbed your face with it.
-You closed your eyes, enjoying his gentle touches, as you always did.
-He then folded the cloth up and rested it on your forehead, his right hand on top of it.
-Among satisfying your food cravings, he also tried his best to help you with other things as well.
-Your clothes were within reach, your vomit bucket resting at your bedside. He also helped you with menial tasks, and kept your shared hut clean.
-He was trying. He really was.
-Anaya met your gaze, attempting to hold back his tears when you blinked at him in lucidity and gave him a weak smile.
-How could someone so full of life, a force of preciousness, so sweet and amazing—could be so… reduced by illness?
-He couldn’t understand it. Not when your weak hand rested on his, squeezing gently in reassurance.
-Anaya choked out a sob. He just wanted everything to be okay again. But he didnt know how it could be.
