These baked cake flour donuts are a delightful treat that are lighter than traditional donuts. They have a tender crumb and a sweet glaze, making them perfect for breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients: 2 cups cake flour. 3/4 cup granulated sugar. 2 tsp baking powder. 1/2 tsp salt. 1/2 cup whole milk. 2 large eggs. 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted. 2 tsp vanilla extract. 1/4 cup sour cream. For the glaze:. 1 cup powdered sugar. 2-3 tbsp milk. 1/2 tsp vanilla extract. Food coloring or sprinkles optional.
Instructions: Preheat your oven to 350F 175C. Grease a donut pan with non-stick cooking spray. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cake flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, combine the whole milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix well. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the batter should be lumpy. Fold in the sour cream until it's fully incorporated into the batter. Spoon the batter into a piping bag or a large resealable plastic bag with a corner snipped off. Pipe the batter into the greased donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the donuts are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted into one comes out clean. Remove the donuts from the oven and allow them to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. While the donuts are cooling, prepare the glaze. In a bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. You can add food coloring if desired. Once the donuts are completely cooled, dip each one into the glaze, allowing any excess to drip off. You can also add sprinkles at this point if you like. Let the glaze set for about 10 minutes before enjoying your baked cake flour donuts!
