♦ What’s your favorite thing about RP, generally?
If I had to say, I thinkwhat I really enjoy is seeing different people’s interpretations of charactersand where they go with them. Every time this comes up, my two longest buddiesanymore are a great example of that since they both primarily play what is thesame character.
@perfectdownpour isprobably what I would describe as a mostly canon Chaos while @amorouschaos isbasically ‘what if he was sassy and gay and flirted with people’. That twodifferent people took the same character, took what lore and understanding wehave of them in canon and took that in a different direction, both of which aresuper fucking fantastic. Like, what the fuck THAT’S AMAZING.
And to sort of built offof this, what I also really like is seeing their writing develop and grow. Themore you do something, the better it’s bound to get, yeah? So that’s alsoawesome.
Basically just seeing everythinggrow and get better over time. That is awesome.
✮ Do you think you’ve improved as a writer through roleplaying?
So that’s actually why Istarted RPing here. Way back in fucking 2012 I was RPing… somewhere, I can’tremember where, and I expanded to a Sonic fansite’s forum. Before I did this,my RPs were basically directionless and consisted of replies that were one tothree lines; at best, maybe two paragraphs and that was very rare. I startedlooking for RPs elsewhere because I was becoming very unsatisfied with thatafter so long.
So, the fansite was… fuck,it was a bust to be honest. The guy I ended up writing with wasn’t bad, not atall, and his AU idea was fucking neat, even if for him it did center aroundsome… meh OCs. After… two years maybe, he decided to really flesh out thebeginning of this AU that started off with Sonic dying and setting off amassive chain of events. Honestly, it was very interesting; I got quiteinvested in helping him figure out a timeline of events, figuring out whatcanon characters would be involved, where they would be, what role they wouldhave in the story, their characterization… I got invested.
It’s been a few yearssince then and he is still off on another site RPing smut and only smut. It’spretty sad, sad because he has great ideas and writes well, sad because he justsort of asked for people to help him with this idea and he left them high anddry.
Now, that idea fleshingout I did was actually after I started RPing on Tumblr, but it’s something Inever would’ve done without having started RPing here. It was so quick that Iwent from small paragraph replies to easily being able to do five paragraphs, sometimeslarger, and it got easier to be able to do that regularly… god, I had onethread where one of my replies was a massive nineteen paragraphs. It’s aproduct of its time so I don’t really like to actually look back at it, but Iam still proud of it. I started RPing here on Tumblr in the end of May 2012 andI managed that reply in August of the same year; only about three months’ time,a bit less, actually, because that was in the first half of August.
Goddamn. For as shitty asit has been at times, deciding to RP on Tumblr was one of the best choices I’vemade for RPing/writing. I got two great buddies out of it and fuck am I a lot better with everythingregarding the hobby.
When it comes down to it,I really fucking love RPing and watching others RP.
