The Callery pear (Pyrus calleryana) is one of the first trees you’ll see and smell blossom as spring begins. Most people consider the stench gross and unpleasant, but it serves as a chemical message used to attract pollinators. The pungent fragrance seems rather effective for this tree, bringing in four insects on a single bloom!
