Eastern cottontail rabbits (Sylvilagus floridanus) VERY cutely nestled together 🤗 . . . Momma rabbits feed their young some time in the night and are not usually seen by the nest in daylight. The baby bunnies are weaned for three weeks, and their eyes start opening after one week. Litters range from 2 to 8 rabbits. How many lil sets of ears did you count?? 🐰 . Being in the middle of a tall tree is my new favorite happy place. For me, it’s immersive and calming. For others, however, it’s a very sexual place! Male soldier beetles (Chauliognathus marginatus) are on the prowl for the plumpest female as mating season begins. (Check out the size differential.) Meanwhile, my job is to make sure the chestnut tree gets some action, too. Flowering dogwood (Cornus florida) . . . I’ve recently developed a condition that persists throughout the year but is especially heightened in Spring... I’ll call it mild dendrophilia, for lack of a better word. The problem occurs when I’m walking or driving and a tree catches my attention. Wide-eyed and mouth agape, I use all my brain power to determine who I’m looking at. Meanwhile, I forget I’m still walking or driving (!) and I potentially put myself in harms way. Malus x Prarifire . . . The genus Malus is a much favored group among humans. Not only are crabapple trees cultivated for their spring flowers, but one of them is THE apple tree (Malus domestica) 🍎 Humans love Malus so much that there are over 800 varieties! The variety pictured is (I think) the Prarifire Crabapple. The person who introduced this cultivar intentionally misspelled the name, for reasons I do not know.
