Zutara ask: Maybe you could share one of your (favorite) headcanons for the pairing?
hey! sorry for the delayed response, but my favorite hc is that Katara’s healing water can heal more than the body, but the mind as well!
Post canon, the fic I’m writing is essentially all about healing, and how I genuinely think EVERY element can have a healing practice if it’s developed and precise enough. It’ll be a fic about katara coming in, seeing what Zuko’s life is like, and going “can I PLEASE heal your ocd ass you’re drowing here, bud, I just left my husband and I need something to do, up on the table now.”
and he’s like “I can pay you for your services?”
“Nah, dude, that’d be weird as hell. I’ll just get a job nearby and maybe get a place somewhere.”
“You don’t want to....live in the palace?”
“Let’s call that plan B.”
And of course, as she helps him after the sessions he’s much more relaxed/emotionally open so he talks to her about HER problems and shares his uncle’s (and his own) wisdom with her. She responds, but very minimally, and secretly it helps a LOT with her internalized self hatred over “leaving her family” (even tho katara and Aang will be exchanging the kids every two weeks with civility, obviously.
In this way they heal each other equally, but in different ways, after Katara leaves aang, and it’s lovely and healthy and MUTUAL HEALING EVERYONE IN ON THAT? LOVE IT. And v in character for katara, too, like you really think she’d just leave a friend who’s obviously having a hard time without offering to help? Not MY katara
And I genuinely hc that Zuko gets a lot wiser a lot faster than other ppl his age due to having gone through a lot more a lot earlier. Yanno that whole “forced to be an adult when you’re still a kid” thing started with those two lbr so they definitely have a LOT to talk abt in those senses
