How do I know if a girl is gay? I feel like I cant just go up and ask "hey are you gay?" Because if she's not then I'll be dumb and then she will know I'm gay too. Are there general rules of thumb to tell if a girl is gay? Please help!

I definitely look at how she dresses. It’s kinda stereotypical and of course not all gay girls dress the same but in my experience most girls who “dress gay” do it so other gay girls will notice them. Flannels, beanies, colored hair, and denim are usually some of the things I look for. You could try bringing up a (female) celebrity you find attractive and mention how cute she is or something. See how she responds. You could talk about a show/book/movie with gay characters and see what she has to say. Maybe bring up a gay singer or something. Talk about LGBT issues. Honestly those are the best ways I can think of because a girl who’s gay is probably going to want to talk about gay stuff but a straight girl will probably change the subject. You could also try coming out to her, if you feel comfortable. Or honestly, depending on how well you know the girl, just ask her directly “Hey, are you into girls?” And see what happens.
