I’ve written for a hundred years, so here’s a link to my older stuff ☺️
The house was filled with people in fancy dresses and suits as I moved around the sitting area into the kitchen. I was intoxicated to say the least and planned to keep drinking.
My boyfriend, Calum and his band were hosting a fancy party in celebration of their album release with their management tonight and strict dress code of black tie had to be enforced even though tomorrow we would throw another party without management.
I wore a beautiful burgundy dress that hugged my body tightly and accentuated my breasts and had a slit up the left side that stopped just above my mid thigh. I wore it in hopes of making Calum crazy.
I was suddenly stopped by Crystal, Michael’s girlfriend and a close friend of mine. “Why don’t you slow down Y/N?”
I laughed softly and shook my head, “I’m fine! Just having fun.” I said pouring another glass of wine. Truth be told I hated parties like this, there were far too many people and Calum always seemed to disappear to talk to executives of some sort, leaving me alone to myself and a house filled with people I’ve only met once or twice.
Standing in the kitchen by myself and the glass of wine, I looked around the place feeling a sudden pain in my chest. I could feel my face turning red and I quickly chugged the wine, making my way out the back door hoping to find peace and quiet. I walked outside and quickly undid my black high heels, carrying them with me as I walked in the small patch of grass that was in the backyard due to the large infinity pool taking up much of the property.
There were only a few people out here, either smoking or lingering around as if to see the magnificent view the house had to offer which allowed me to catch my breath for a second.
It was a grand house, made mostly of windows and built up on a hill. You could see the city of Los Angelas below, lit up in the night. The house had six bedrooms, a studio in the basement and all the other little things the richest of LA could ever ask for.
I snapped out of my day dream when I felt a hand on my shoulder and I jumped, quickly turning around to see my boyfriend with a cigarette in his hand.
“Calum! Don’t do that!” I complained, sticking my bottom lip out. He chuckled lightly taking a drag of his cigarette and blowing it in the other direction, away from my face.
“And you know I hate when you smoke.” I pouted again, crossing my arms. Calum nodded slowly.
“I’m sorry, Y/N, but you’ve seen what it’s like in there! And we just got out of a meeting with the CEO of the company and-“
I cut my boyfriend off with a soft kiss and pulled away slowly. Calum hummed softly to himself and smiled, taking a deep breath.
“I know how you feel.” I said uncrossing my arms and taking the cigarette out of Calum’s hand, taking a small drag. If you can’t beat them might as well join them.
“Are you okay?” He asked slowly, taking back the cigarette. I nodded, turning back to the view.
“You know how I feel about these things, this is not my idea of celebrating.” I said looking out over the city. Calum sighed next to me and finished his cigarette, stubbing it in the grass with his toe.
I felt his hand wrap around my waist and pulled me closer to him as he placed a small kiss on my cheek, moving up to my ear.
“If my princess behaves tonight and socializes with the guests she will be rewarded.” He whispered, moving his hand down to my butt.
I let a small moan escape my lips as he kissed my neck again, knowing where my sweet spot was.
“Can you do that for me, princess?” He asked squeezing my butt with his hand. I nodded slowly and turned to kiss Calum.
“Uh-huh.” Calum spoke, pulling away, “Not until after the party.” He said with a small smirk on his face.
“Put your shoes on and go back up to the house, Y/N.” My boyfriend said backing away, walking back to the house.
I groaned to myself, muttering how I hated myself for letting him get to me the way he did, as I strapped my shoes back to my feet and made my way back. If I was going to socialize I was going to be way more drunk then I already was.
——
The night continued to go on as I found myself sitting in the sitting area with a bunch people I had never met before and we talked about our craziest travels around the world.
I was mainly listening but I would chime if they mention a place I had been before. It was weird to think that Calum had been to a lot of places but because of school I was stuck at home most of the time Calum was on tour with the band.
The group laughed softly at someone’s adventure in France and not knowing a single thing of French I was quite bored with the conversation, when I suddenly saw Crystal walk past the hall. I quickly darted after her, desperately wanting a fun conversation.
I shouted, running after her, though it was more like stumbling and I could feel alcohol coursing through my veins. She turned around right as I stumbled into someone’s arms, slurring my apologizes.
“I’m so sorry sir.” A stern voice quickly said as I was pulled away from the body.
I could hear a few chuckles from around me and I realized it was Calum’s grip that had tightened around my arms as he tried to have me stand.
“Someone doesn’t know how to handle her alcohol, hey Calum?” I heard someone ask and Calum chuckled softly, gripping my shoulder, pushing me out of his chest.
“Again, really sorry.”
“No but Calum!” I shouted and hugged him, kissing his neck. I could hear him sigh, gripping my arms again.
“If you could please excuse me.” He said suddenly, leaning into me.
“Let’s go.” He said in a low growl, ushering me up the stairs. I giggled softly, leaning into Calum.
Once in our bedroom and the door was shut, Calum threw me on the bed. I landed on the bed with a thud and began to giggle.
“I’ve been a good girl, Calum. I talked to people just like you said.” I giggled.
“Oh you’ve been a good girl? Stumbling all through out the house and making a fool of yourself?” Calum said sternly, standing at the end of the bed as he loosened his belt from his all black attire.
His tone made me realize that he was not happy with me. I stuck my bottom lip out and laid on the bed, not moving a muscle.
Calum pulled the belt from his pants and threw it down on the floor. He then loosened the buttons of his shirt and sat down on the end of the bed.
“Over my knee. Now.”
“But-“
He quickly turned his head to glare at me. I knew not to mess around when he gave me that look and I quickly stumbled up from the soft mattress, laying my stomach over his knees.
“Embarrassing me like that. What the fuck were you thinking?” He demanded, pushing my dress up before he let out a groan.
“And not wearing panties, you really wanted to be naughty tonight.” He growled before quickly slapping my ass.
“Ow!” I cried realizing he still had his rings on. He was really pissed at me.
“Shut up” he growled, holding his hand over my mouth and nose, cutting off air.
“You couldn’t behave for a couple more hours, no you have to drink all the alcohol you could find and stumble right into the studio’s manager. Embarrassing me in front of all of those guest.” Calum growler while continuing to slap my ass.
I could only whimper softly as Cal had my mouth covered and I quickly started to kick my feet to signal him that I needed air. Letting go of my mouth and nose I quickly took a large breathe.
“You’re such a slut.” Calum spat at him, delivering a final smack to my ass. I screamed out as my skin was red and bruised. I quickly rolled over and my breathe caught in my mouth as Calum dropped his pants and boxers.
“Suck.” He said, shoving his cock into my mouth. I opened my mouth and let him fill my mouth. His tip hit the back of my throat as Calum grabbed my face and began fucking my mouth. I gagged on his cock but knew Cal wouldn’t let up.
“Take it like the good slut you.” Calum growled, slapping my face with his hand. I began to suck harder on his tip, moving my tongue around his slit. Calum suddenly began to shudder and he moaned softly, the beautiful voice coming deep from his throat.
“Oh baby, I’m clos-“ he moaned before emptying his cum into my mouth. I gagged on the large amount filling my throat but I took a deep breath and swallowed his load.
“Good girl.” He said in a shaky breath, pulling out of my mouth. Calum smoothed my hair and collapsed onto the bed next to me.
Lots of lazy mornings in bed the first few days he gets back from tour
You tracing his tattoos while your cuddling
And your literally cuddling all the time because it's Calum
Wouldn't be into too much PDA, but whenever you were out he would always be touching you (i.e. holding your hand, arm around your shoulder, hand around your waist etc.)
You waking up to the cheesiest messages from him while he's on tour
" Have you been to the doctor's lately? Cause I think you're lacking some vitamin me"
Always hearing him strumming something on the guitar when he's got nothing to do
Hearing him have conversations with Duke while he thinks your sleeping/not listening
Him calling you Duke's mommy
You constantly telling Ashton to "back off my man "
Whenever you're at one of his shows he'll talk to the crowd and say "it's always such a special show when the love of my life is in the audience cheering me on"
Cuddly drunk Cal
Jokingly calling him Cal Pal
"Hey Cal, which of your songs resembles me the most?"
"Hmmmm... good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught 😉"
"No Cal seriously!"
"(Y/n) you already know there is literally an entire song I did dedicated to you, my lil Wildflower."
Falling asleep while face timing him when he is on tour
Squishing his cheeks together a lot because you just can't help it
Just so much love and appreciation for one another. Both willing to do anything and everything to make the relationship work no matter what.

PART ONE
“Cal!” An excited voice called from across the large patio.
Calum’s head whipped around while his eyes searched the scantily-clad crowd at one of this month’s industry networking events the label requested he attend. He had to admit, this was one of the more amusing ones, a themed pool party with a barbeque style spread. With that signature phony, ostentatious LA touch to it, of course. This is the kind of thing Calum typically steered clear of in the past; less so since officially uprooting his life to Los Angeles and being conditioned by his band’s record label to make appearances at gatherings like this on a regular basis. His eyes finally landed on his target and his lips curled up instantly—the melodic voice that had called out his name over the masses of valleyspeak blending together in the background, and subsequently, the only true reason he’d agreed to represent the band tonight at this function.
“My, my, my; look what we have here” he said with cheeky implication as he took a moment to slowly look her up and down with a shit-eating grin spread across his face, leaving his eyes squinted and cheeks rounded. She looked even better than he remembered, her long tousled hair neatly spilling over her shoulder just how he’d always liked it. It had been months since he’d seen her in the flesh and the sight of her was enough to make him feel giddy to his core.
“I’m so glad you could make it” she replied with a breathy laugh, cheeks slightly flushed as her arms wrapped around his neck for a quick squeeze ‘hello.’ In that moment, she was very pleased with her decision to wear her sleek black one-piece suit under her cutoff shorts with a red lip—a combination that always delivered. His palm lingered across the span of her waist around her back, squeezing gently, letting it run down to her hip before letting go. When they parted from their embrace and their eyes met, Calum’s cheeky confidence quickly turned shy and boyish, as it typically does.
“Yeah, me too. This is—this is quite the soiree.” He motioned to the mingling bodies around them. “Um, so how have you been, how was Morocco?” He looked down awkwardly at his shoes for a brief moment, cursing himself and nature for not being smoother. Trying not to come off too eager although he’d been thinking about this interaction daily for nearly a year now, whether they had been speaking or not.
They had been engaging in a modest flirtation for months and months now, they had tried going on a handful of dates right around the time the band came back to LA from touring to focus on writing the following album, ‘Calm.’ The term ‘dates,’ however, should be used loosely; Calum’s record label doesn’t approve of the guys getting snapped by paps casually dating around. Rules have certainly been broken in the past— but he figured, since they’d only just met, it wasn’t worth the headaches that these things cause on the harsh world that is the internet. People always talk and it tends to confuse the masses. So, they opted for more intimate yet appropriate venues for their rendezvous like dinner at Calum’s outdoor living space, tight knit shin-digs at his bandmate Michael’s house, or lengthy facetime calls from their respective home couches.
Calum was absolutely smitten- a feeling so new to him, he couldn’t even remember if he’d ever felt it with anyone else before. He was also terrified things would fall apart just like they always had in the past, she ran free and untamed, never staying in one place long enough to make lasting connections, making Calum wary of her potentially leaving and breaking his heart. He could always see it in her face, there was a wild side to her that she couldn’t explain. Things quickly began to prove too consuming for him as he tried to juggle really getting to know her, despite his reservations, and focusing on pouring his heart into the upcoming record. He’s the type to completely immerse himself in whatever it is that’s important to him, so he felt it wasn’t fair to them or his art if they continued building on the relationship. The pair chalked it up to poor timing and decided to give each other space while he worked with his band tirelessly on their music for a number of months. Forever the wandering bohemian, she jetted off to spend some time living with friends in Amsterdam and then frolicking about in Morocco for the summer.
Once the record was released, promotion was finished and the tour was completed; he and his band mates arrived back to LA for some much-needed R & R before eventually returning to the writing process to start it all over again. She returned back to her home base, for the time being, sun-kissed and thrilled to be back in the states for one major reason. Calum had spent nearly the whole first month home catching up on sleep, ordering sushi on grubhub and lounging around in boxers doing next to nothing; standard procedure. But now he was fully rested, extremely rejuvenated, and he was eager to get up to no good.
“I’ve been good, yeah, Morocco was gorgeous and…mind-altering…” She trailed off, losing her train of thought while taking in his face, she shook her head slightly. “Wow, it is so nice to see you again.” She reveled, her green eyes catching light of the twinkling strings adorning the canopy above where they stood. “It’s been a while, huh?” Her cheeks swelled up as she flashed him a smile and attempted to calculate quite how long it had been in her head, remembering some of the last times they hung out vividly. Thoughts shifting to his scent, how he looked different but it was somehow even better than before, the way he had to look down to meet her gaze, the hand he had pressed against her waist when he greeted her earlier, how she felt at ease and wired at the same time to be in his presence.
“Way too long” He said through a toothy smile, already having to remind himself of how they vowed to take things slowly over the text messages leading up to tonight, and simultaneously imagining leaving cherry red marks down the length of her neck. He couldn’t stop sneaking glimpses of her exposed skin and imagining her dark hair splayed across his crisp white sheets or holding her tightly while she wore one of his old t shirts, he desperately hoped that’s where this night was headed. His tongue slipped out and ran its way over his bottom lip when the thin black strap of her bathing suit slipped down her shoulder, his hand moving before the rational side of his brain had any time to talk him out of it. He gently brushed her hair back to expose her bare shoulder and slid the strap back up into place for her, their eyes meeting as his hand lingered there for a moment too long. His jaw tensed as he pulled his hand away, looking down briefly, she swallowed and made herself busy with her champagne flute. He swore he could feel little tiny electric sparks flying each time his skin met hers. “Sorry” He muttered, ever apologetic.
“Don’t be” She said softly and gave him ‘the eyes,’ the eyes that Calum still thought about before he fell asleep some nights. A face that looked like it came straight out of his dreams, innocent yet sinister all rolled into one, making him shiver. A face he couldn’t help but imagine staring up at him while she takes him into her mouth slowly, then all at once. Quite a regular fantasy he’d been having these days, this face felt like she was giving an open invitation to daydream of her. They’d been calling or texting almost daily for around two weeks since she arrived back home, anticipation rising with each passing day.
“So,” He cleared his throat some, “What are you doing after this?” He asked, meaning for it to come off more charming than it did. “I mean, would you want to go hang out somewhere… else? Or something.” He suddenly regretted going in for the kill so soon, he couldn’t read her expression, though he thought if he stared at her pouty pink lips and long dark lashes for long enough, he might. She smirked to herself and let out a chuckle, using her index finger to poke him in the chest. He, rather dramatically, twisted his face up and rubbed the spot vigorously with his palm.
“Owww!” He whined, wide eyed and feigning disdain. “What did you do that for?” He carried on while she rolled her eyes playfully. Tired of the party’s cold chickpea ‘cheeseburger’ sliders and shallow conversation, she decided to speed this process along. She was no fool, they’d both been waiting for this very moment as an excuse to hang out alone again.
“Let’s get out of here.” She leaned in to put her lips up close to his ear, brushing her palm up against his bicep lightly. She pulled back to look him in the eyes, a little smile taking over her plush lips his eyes kept finding their way back to. “I wanna come to your house” She stated, stepping forward slightly to close the space between them, her scent creeping up into his nasal passages and making his mouth go dry imagining how sweet she’d taste.
“Yeah,” He cleared his throat, his eyes widening. “Sure… I mean, yeah, sounds good. I’ll grab the car.” He said, trying (and failing) to sound as cool as possible, turning abruptly and b-lining for the gate, lightning suddenly coursing through his veins at the thought of what was to come. Once to the car, he used the mirror to check his hair as he pulled around to the front drive of the house, moving it around and smoothing it down, not making much of a difference with his recently-buzzed ‘do. Now, he knew exactly where the night was going.
Rolling on your side you admired Calum’s sleeping profile. You smiled as you thought back to the night before, Calum singing his heart out on stage, the fans going wild at his voice. You brought your hand up to trace the veins in his hand before flipping it over and running your pointer finger along the creases there. Calum hummed and you looked up to see his eyes opening slowly. Another smile graced your face as he turned to face you, mirroring your smile.
“Can I kiss you?” you asked. His lips quirked up at the corners.
“‘Course, lovely.” you wiggled your way up toward his face, blanket falling off your shoulders and exposing them to the chilly morning air.
“Lips?” you asked and he nodded again. You knew he found it odd, you always asking for permission to engage in an intimate act, whether it was for a kiss or a hug or even just to make sure it was okay if you sat down next to him. He never asked though, and you figured although he found it odd he didn’t find it weird enough to question you.
Placing your lips on his your eyes fluttered closed and he pulled you on top of his chest where you settled in comfortably. Pulling away you placed a few more pecks to his lips and one on his nose for good measure before laying your head on his chest, listening to the steady thump of his heart.
“The boys wanted to go out to dinner tonight with everybody. You wanna come?” Calum asked and you lifted your head up, nodding.
“Who else is going? The girls?” you hadn’t seen the boys very much since they had come back to LA, too busy catching up with Calum while they were catching up with family and their girlfriends.
“Mike said yeah last I checked.” you hummed and climbed off of him. He whined, “Where are you going?” Calum reached out and tugged on your hand.
“To get ready.” you laughed as Calum pulled you back to bed.
“The dinner isn’t for hours, though.” Calum whined, burying his face into your stomach as you stood by the bed.
You giggled, “Cal that tickles.” he blew a raspberry into your tummy in response. “Besides I’m not getting ready for dinner I’m getting ready for the day. It’s nine in the morning and my breath smells like sleep.” he blew another raspberry. You ran your fingers through his hair and tugged slightly, he bit the skin around your stomach softly. “Are you wanting to stay in bed all day? Do nothing but watch Netflix? Is that what you’re trying to tell me?”
“And chill.” he mumbled.
“What was that?”
He lifted his head out from your tummy, “And chill.” he said. You barked out a startled laugh.
“Calum Hood!” you reprimanded, swatting his hair softly.
“What! You love me and I love you so why not?”
“Who said I love you, hm?” you teased.
“You did, you little shit. Three months ago, on our anniversary at around eight at night. You were in that stunning outfit and your hair was really really pretty that night too. You should do that style more often.” Calum said and he threw his legs over the side of the bed, rubbing his eyes sleepily.
Your breath caught in your throat, “You remember stuff like that?” you whispered.
Calum looked at you, “Of course I remember that stuff. It was the first time the woman I’m gonna marry told me she loved me. I couldn’t forget that if I tried.” he looked at you and stood, fingers tilting your head towards him, “I remember everything about you. All of the things you might think are insignificant are some of the most important things for me to remember. Because it’s you and I love you. And I’ve never loved anybody more. You’re it for me, y/n.” You looked at Calum as he spoke. He didn’t open up often. He was more honest with you than most people, save the boys. But he’d never said something like this. Tears sprung to your eyes and you tried to blink them away.
“Can- can I please hug you?” you whispered, throat too thick with emotion to speak any louder.
“Always.” Calum whispered and you threw yourself into his arms and shoved your face into his neck, a tear slipping out and onto his shirt. The love you felt for him overwhelmed you and your heart felt like it could burst with emotion and you let more tears slip onto his soft shirt. “I love you, you know?” you nodded. You did know. He showed you everyday. Whether it was shown through affection or a text when he was away, or a random FaceTime in the middle of the day. You had caught on quickly that he would stay up late whenever he was in the world so that he could FaceTime you at a time that was reasonable for you. Your heart had fluttered when you realized it. As you hugged him to your body you remembered an interview he had done years ago. The interviewer was asking about heartbreak after the recent release of Jet Black Heart and Calum said he had never been heartbroken. He joked about having a “heart of steel”. The two of you had met not long after that and you quickly learned that his “heart of steel” was soft and needed to be held carefully. You promised yourself that you’d do everything in your power to keep his heart soft and warm. His exterior was strong but when he was in the presence of somebody he was comfortable with his walls crumbled, he was open and often the emotions he held in during the day came out full force. Keeping his heart soft was one reason you always asked to initiate anything. You knew that as long as he allowed you to keep his heart, you’d protect it with everything you had.
“Okay I need to… I don’t know… make cookies or something.” you said, stepping out of his hold. Calum laughed but pulled you back into his chest. He leaned down and pressed his lips to yours sweetly. He deepened it slightly but pulled back before things got heated. You loved his kisses. He always asked for consent before you guys went too far, always making sure you were comfortable and willing to take things further, but he wasn’t as cautious as you were when leaning down to kiss you or wrap you in his arms. You didn’t mind, you were asking for his consent, you were concerned with him; he knew he had your consent and if he didn’t he knew you’d say something.
“Cookies?” Calum questioned, following you to the bathroom where you started to wash your face, “Babe it’s not even after noon.” he pulled his toothbrush out and squirted toothpaste on it.
“I’m just feeling very emotional and I need to bake. Does Ashton like muffins? I’m thinking I’ll make some cookies and muffins, maybe some scones.” you dipped your head to the sink, rinsing off the face wash before pulling your toothbrush out and starting to brush.
“Yes, Ashton will like muffins.” Calum laughed around his toothbrush.
“Great. So muffins for Ash and KayKay, I’m thinking cookies for Mike? I’ll need to make more for Crystal too. What about Luke and Sierra? Scones or cookies?”
“Y/n, the boys will like anything you make them. But you know you don’t have to right?” Calum came up behind you and put his hand on your waist as you brushed vigorously. You nodded before spitting, your butt pushing into Calum as you bent over, “I think I like this.” You saw Calum’s grin in the mirror as you straightened up and rolled your eyes, pulling him towards your kitchen.
“Could you get the flour up there?” you pointed to the cabinet above the sink. “Oh! And the sugar, too! It should be right next to it. The salt and baking soda should be behind that.” you listed off the ingredients while you grabbed the chocolate chips, eggs, milk, and a mixing bowl. “Should we do a batch with nuts and one without?” you tapped your finger to your chin thoughtfully.
“Just how many batches are you planning on making, sweet girl?” you turned to face Calum who was measuring out the flour. His eyes met yours and he smiled.
“Cheek?” you asked and he grinned at you before nodding and you placed a kiss on his cheek where you could feel him smile as your lips met his skin.

“Does this look alright? What kind of restaurant is it? Fancy? Casual? Fancy casual?” you called out from the closet, trying to find the best outfit.
“Darling, it’s just a restaurant and you’ll look great in anything, promise.” Calum’s voice floated over to you from where he was in the bathroom and you huffed. Sometimes men could be so unhelpful.
You grabbed your phone from the bed and texted Crystal, ‘What are you wearing tonight? Cal won’t tell me what the dress code is like!?!?!?!?!?!’ You tossed your phone back on the bed next to Calum’s and saw it light up with a text from Luke.
“Cal, Luke texted you!”
“What does it say?” you picked his phone up and typed in the password (your birthday) and clicked on the messages with Luke.
“He wants to know the name of the restaurant.” you laughed and waited for Calum to tell you.
“Fucking idiot.” Calum laughed, “It’s literally where him and Sierra had their first date, why is he like this?” he came out from the bathroom and grabbed his phone, sending a reply before picketing it.
“What’s the name?” you asked. The name would give you a clue of how to dress. He didn’t reply and you threw a sock at him, missing terribly. Just then your phone dinged and you reached for it to see Crystal had replied.
‘Wear a nice dress. It’s not too fancy but it’s not a casual affair either’ You sent a reply back thanking her for helping before deciding on a long dress that you had only been able to wear a few times before. With you makeup already done you were only waiting on Calum. You had just sat down on the bed and opened Tetris while you let your phone charge when Calum emerged from the bathroom. He looked stunning in a maroon button down and black pants. You got distracted and only snapped out of it when your phone buzzed letting you know you lost the game of Tetris.
“Ready, love?” Calum called, walking to the door of your room. You hopped off the bed, placing a kiss on Duke’s head before following Calum, grabbing the heels you placed by the door on your way out. You were not going to wear those any longer than you had to and that meant waiting until you were parked outside of the restaurant to strap them on.
“Hand?” you asked as you got into Calum’s car, holding your palm up for his to grasp if he wanted. As he closed the door and turned the ignition over he laced his hand through your and pulled out of the spot.
“Is it okay if we pick up Ash on the way?” he asked, glancing at you as you shuffled through his phone to find a good song to play.
“Yes! I miss him!” he knew you wouldn’t say no and seeing your face light up at the idea of seeing one of his best friends made his heart swell more than he could comprehend. “Oh I hope he wears a bandana tonight!”
“You- What?” Calum asked, squeezing your hand.
You shrugged, “I just think they would make a comeback. I miss those days.”
Calum kisses the back you your hand, “I love you, sweet girl.”
“And I, you, sweet boy.”

“Y/n! It’s been forever! How are you?” Sierra greeted you with a hug, Luke waiting with open arms right behind her.
“I’ve been great! I loved hanging out with you while these dorks were on tour.” you laughed with her as Luke squeezed you tighter when he heard your words.
“Hey! We’re great! Don’t be rude!”
“Luke, I love you. You know I do… but you’re most definitely a dork.” you laughed as he pulled back from the hug. He huffed and squeezed your shoulder with a smile on his face. Just then the hostess came over to your group to show you to your table. There was already a few open bottles of wine at the table and wine glasses ready to be filled.
As you slid in next to Sierra, Calum whispered in your ear, “I didn’t tell you when we left but you look absolutely stunning today.” you turned to smile at him and thanked him with a blush on your cheeks.
Shortly after sitting a waiter came over to take your orders and hustled away with the promise that your appetizers would be out soon. Casual chatter filled the table, questions about tour were brought up as well as seeing family again and traveling. A happy buzz coated your body as you listened to Calum talk and you watched him, his smile never leaving his face. There was laughter all around the table and a feeling of utter happiness warmed your body. “Can I kiss you?” You whispered in Calum’s ear and you saw his smile get brighter as he nodded, puckering his lips for you. “Thank you.” you replied as you pulled away.
“Always.” Calum said, grabbing you hand under the table. You listened to the conversation happily and you laughed when the boys got a little wine tispy, their demeanor becoming louder, more jovial. Finally everybody finished their meal and the check came before everybody filed out of the restaurant. “You guys wanna come over? Y/n made all of you some gifts.” Calum asked the group, arm around your shoulder and you reached your hand up to meet his fingers.
Before you grasped his hand you turned to him, “Hand?” he looked down at you, smiled, pecked your nose and nodded. Happily, you grasped his hand as he tugged you towards the car.
“I’m in!” Ashton said, wrapping his arm around Calum’s shoulder, tugging him into Ashton’s chest, which pulled you in, consequently.
“Oof.” you huffed, trying to get out from under Calum’s arm, knowing the boys well enough to know they were a bit drunk and you figured it was going to turn into rough housing quickly. You were right as Calum pinned Ashton against the car and laughed victoriously. You rolled your eyes and turned to Michael, “Are you and Crys in?” he turned to you and smiled, nodding happily. You smiled at Crystal who hugged you and thanked you for inviting them over. You finally managed to get Calum and Ashton in the car, the two of them giggling wildly about some stupid joke. “May I have the keys, Calum?” you asked, holding your hand out. He dug his hand in his pocket, handing them over to you.
“Be careful with my baby.” Calum said and you rolled your eyes.
“Calum I know how to drive your car.”
He looked at you incredulously, “I’m telling the car to be careful with you. You’re my baby.” you flushed fiercely.
“You guys are so cute I love it.” Ashton was laying in the back seat, face turned towards the front where he was watching you and Calum. “I don’t get something, though.” he mumbled, moving slightly as you pulled out of the parking spot.
“What’s that, Ash?” you asked, flipping the blinker on and glancing in the rear-view mirror to see Michael and Luke both following you.
“Why do you always ask if you can kiss Calum? Or hold his hand for that matter? That’s not normal, I don’t think.” you blushed, hard. Looking away from Calum’s questioning eyes and focusing on the road, “Is it because you’re insecure? Because I knew a girl like that. Wait! Kelsey! You know her! You met her! Yeah she was really insecure about our relationship. She was scared that she was moving too fast, or that I thought she was using me or whatever. I didn’t think that, just so you know. She was lovely, and I tried my hardest to let her know I really liked her. But it just didn’t work, you know? Oh well.” Ashton was rambling but you barely caught any of it. You were thinking about what he said. It wasn’t normal. You knew he wasn’t trying to be mean, he was just drunk and didn’t have much of a filter.
Pulling into your and Calum’s driveway you got out quickly, unlocking the front door to let everybody in. It wasn’t that you were insecure about your relationship with Calum, never. It was not about that at all, but you were still embarrassed that you had been asked about that in front of Calum. “Is this for us, y/n?” Sierra asked from the kitchen. You padded in to see her looking at all the baking you did.
“Yeah! Yeah, this batch is for you! That’s for you guys, Mike. Ash these are yours.” you passed out the batches and they all thanked you with hugs before piling onto the couch to talk. You made your way up the stairs and took off your outfit, changing into something more comfortable. You quickly took off your makeup before going downstairs to mingle for a while longer.
“Ugh, finally.” Calum sighed as he climbed under the covers. You remained relatively quiet throughout the night, trying to think of a way to explain to Calum why you did what you did. “Hey, please look at me, sweet girl.” You turned on your side. “You don’t have to explain anything if you don’t want. Ashton was drunk and rambling, I’m not mad or anything. And I really hope that you’re not insecure about our relationship. I’d hate to think I lead you to believe you’re anything but the best thing in my life.”
“I’m not insecure. It’s something else.”
“I’m here if you want to talk, and if you don’t want to I don’t mind. I won’t push.”
“It’s about consent.” you blurted.
“Consent?” Calum quirked his head.
“I don’t want to talk about this when you’re not sober.”
“Hey, hey, that’s fine if you don’t want to talk but I do want you to know that I’m completely sober right now, have been for a few hours now.”
“It’s just…” you trailed off, “you should be able to give consent.” Calum nodded. “And I know what it’s like when you don’t give consent and people do whatever they want anyway.” you swallowed the lump in your throat.
“What- are- did something happen? Are you okay?” Calum sat up quickly, grabbing your upper arms.
“I’m- no I’m okay! That’s- I wasn’t talking about that!” Calum sagged into your chest, breathing out a sigh of relief. “I’m talking about you.”
Calum’s eyebrows furrowed, “That’s never- I mean, I’ve never been through that, though.”
“You have though! Even if you don’t see it as that. When fans come up to you! And they hug you without asking, or kiss your cheek without asking if it’s okay. Or they try to kiss you! Or- or when they encroach on your space. They don’t always ask. And I figured the least I could do was make sure it was okay if I did that stuff, since they don’t.” you shrugged and looked away from him. You felt foolish for admitting it, especially since Calum hadn’t even noticed it. Maybe you were looking to far into things. You looked up quickly when you heard Calum gasp. You were startled to see tears running down his cheeks and his eyes red-rimmed. “Cal-” he wrapped his hand around your leg, “I’m so sorry.” you tried to apologize.
“Don’t…” he trailed off and you kept quiet, tears of your own burning your eyes. “That’s not for you to worry about.” he whispered.
“Yes it is! You’re my boyfriend, and sometimes people don’t respect your privacy and that’s… that’s not okay.” avoiding his gaze, still, you played with Duke’s tail that was resting in between you and Calum.
“No, no I mean, I love that you’re looking out for me, it means the world. But you don’t have to ask. It’s not a problem that you have to worry about. I’ll tell you if I don’t want to kiss you, or hug you, or hold your hand. Though I don’t think I’ll ever not want to do that stuff with you. I love you. And I can’t believe that you took it upon yourself to make up for the fans that can’t respect our space, but you don’t have to try to fix it, okay? I love you, forever, my love.” you looked up at him, and, for the first time in your relationship, you leaned into him, pressing your lips to his without asking. It was short-lived, however, when Calum pulled back only a few seconds after you kissed him.
“What-?” you started to ask but stopped when you saw Calum’s wide grin.
“Nothing, nothing. It’s just that I’m so in love with you. And that’s the first time you’ve kissed me without asking. I loved it.” you pressed your face into his chest, hiding your face. He tilted your chin up and looked down at you, lovingly, “You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me, y/n.”
When you had first started seeing each other, he saw very quickly just how stubbornly independent you are. You were always quietly and fiercely determined to take care of things yourself, even if you were both well aware you would strain yourself until you can’t refuse his help. He’s constantly trying to assure you that you’re never a burden to him, because he would do anything for you if it meant making your life easier. You felt bad accepting help from anyone, feeling like they’d see you as weak. Doing whatever needs done and you wonder, do they think I’m taking advantage of them? It’s a never-ending cycle.
It’s the middle of February, and you had finally been given a break to go visit your boyfriend on tour. The trip has been planned for nearly two months, with everything ready to go and two people who have never felt so impatient in their lives. Calum and the boys were finally approaching the tail end of their world tour, and you hadn’t seen your golden boy since it began. The two of you have usually been pretty good at your routine visits in the past, but you couldn’t get the time off of your own schedule to fit it into his, and you’re feeling a strain you desperately wanted to forget. The frequency in calls, texts, FaceTiming, tweeting, snapchatting; you think you’ve doubled all previous records of yours in a timespan of three weeks.
You got a flu shot this year- you know you did it early, but at least it was out of the way, right? Flu season had come and nearly gone without hitting you, but of course you couldn’t be that lucky. It was two days before you were set to fly out to Calum when you started feeling the symptoms. You tried to rationalize them, you really did. The fatigue? You weren’t sleeping well without your boyfriend, and now the anxiety caught up to you. The body aches? Maybe you just went a little too hard at the gym this week. The stomach pains? You hadn’t stuck to the healthiest of diets this week either. It was when you felt that tickle in the back of your throat, almost unnoticeable but still enough to make speaking a little rough, that you knew you weren’t getting out of this unscathed.
The day before your trip, you had tried every over the counter and home remedy you could find to nip this in the bud, but nothing proved successful. It was the day of and you felt like you had jumped in front of a train; just barely slugging yourself around, feeling like you’re in a bit of daze, only to snap back out of it with a sneeze and heavy coughs.
You knew you probably shouldn’t be going on like this with outward denial and inward dread, but you cried yourself to sleep too many times to not be in Calum’s arms by the end of the day. He had texted you all day, from giving Roy instructions he really didn’t need to take care of Duke, through the Uber ride to the airport, and wasting your waiting time at the gate with more texting. You dodged his call, saying it would be too loud to hear him, but you really just didn’t want him to hear you. The second he heard the grit to your voice, he would be sending you back home any way he could.
Hardly ever did someone in the Hood household get sick, but when it finally happened, Calum took care of you like it was the end of your days. This trip was supposed to be nothing short of emotional and happy, finally reuniting with your love. You weren’t about to let some dumb flu virus ruin that. Everything would be fine. It had to be fine. Not a big deal, right?
Wrong. You were so, so wrong.
The brisk air of Minnesota seemed to slam into you with a force to be reckoned with. Adding snow, ice, and a temperature of 13 degrees onto what was already becoming a hideous ailment wracking through you, there was nothing to distract Calum from just how bad of shape you were in. He watched you stagger through the terminal, bloodshot eyes and a pink nose to match.
“Baby, what the hell happened to you?”
“Oh hey, babe, nice to see you too.”
Calum rolled his eyes, taking your bags from you to ease the ache in your bones. He opened his mouth to chastise you, but you cut him off. “Don’t even start with me, Cal. I was not about to skip this trip to you because of a tickly throat and some sniffles. I love you and I missed you, and it’s really not that bad.”
You couldn’t help but be irritated at your body for combusting in loud, awful, painful coughs just then. Wracking through you hard enough to hunch over and get a glassy film in your eyes. Calum looked at you incredulously as he directed you to cuddle into his shoulder as you walked, carrying half your wait to keep you steady. “We’re gonna get to the hotel, and then I’m takin’ you to the closest minor emergency room,” he said.
“What? No, that’s ridiculous. I’ll be fine babe, I just need some water and a nap before the show tonight.” You paused, a slight blush appearing as you add, “and maybe some cuddles too. Those help.”
Calum sighed, like you were the most adorable yet ridiculous person he’d ever met. Which, he can’t deny that. A small smile made it’s way to his face, grabbing your hand as he murmurs, “I may be worried because you are a fuckin’ handful, but m’so glad you’re here, angel,” before kissing your knuckles.
_
After a three-hour nap that felt stronger than any nights rest from the last week, and a steaming shower to soothe your lungs and relax the dull thudding in your limbs, you were meeting the boys in their dressing room, as they got ready for the show.
“Uh. [Y/N]. When did you die and resurrect yourself?” Michael said before Cal slapped him upside the head. “Oi! Dickhead! It’s great to see you, really, but do me a favor and stay away from me.”
“Love you too Mike, always a pleasure,” you say through a laugh, rolling your eyes as he dramatically backed away from you. “I’m really not that bad, I don’t know what you’re going on about.”
Calum gives you a deadpan stare as he says, “You’re a terrible liar and I’m taking you somewhere first thing in the morning. Please, babe, just take it easy tonight.” He makes his way over to you, wrapping you up in his arms and giving light kisses to your head. Despite the front you’ve put up, you can’t help but melt in his warm embrace, snuggling as close as you can get with your eyes closed. He says quietly, just low enough for you to hear, “I know you want to make the best of this trip, and trust me when I say I do too, but your health is way too important to shrug it off. I’ve never seen you this sick and I just… Can’t help but worry ‘bout you sometimes. We have all the time in the world when the tour s’done, so don’t get stressed about being sick right now.”
It feels like butterflies have erupted from your stomach, through every inch of your body, immediately filled with so much overwhelming love for your boy. Pulling back from him just enough to look him in the eyes, you see those beautiful brown gems staring back at you with so many emotions packed into one glance, you know the words he’s trying to say. You always do.
A small knock on the door and a throat being cleared breaks you apart, with a soft glance from Ashton before he says, “Sorry to interrupt mate, but we’re on in two.” Calum returns the small smile and nod, before giving you a searing kiss on the forehead. “Love you. I love you s’much, angel. Be back soon,” he says before he’s rushing his way towards the stage, and you’re wondering how you got so lucky.
_
There are only six songs left in the show when you feel an angry rumble in your stomach, reminding you that you haven’t eaten since you got off the plane. It’s the sudden and painful kind of hunger, that crept up on you until suddenly you feel like you could pass out at any moment. Taking some slow and steady breaths, you focus harder than ever on the stage as you ground yourself. It’s almost over; you can just steal some snacks when you make it to the dressing room.
There’s three songs left when you start getting a little dizzy, your mind so cloudy that you don’t even notice until you stumble to the side and just barely catch yourself. You feel a tremor starting in your fingers due to the chills running through you, but you know you’re still burning up. Crates and equipment are stacked around, giving a good place to rest against while you wait it out. You’ll be fine.
Calum thought he saw you moving out of the corner of his eye, but you seemed normal a second later. He’s been trying to keep an eye on you all night, trying to brush off the paranoia. Everything is fine. He’s almost done, and then he can dote on you as much as he wants. Almost done.
The last chorus of the night is ringing through the venue when you realize that maybe something is really wrong here. You’re scared, you’ve never felt this sick, and there’s not too many people around as the crew is preparing for the boys to come off stage. You knew the venue had an ambulance stationed around here somewhere, but you couldn’t get the words out of your chest.
The final bows are made as you hear Calum’s voice in your head, saying to you just a couple hours before, “Please, babe, just take it easy tonight.”
It feels like everything is in slow motion for the both of you as he turns on the stage, making his way off. He’s still glancing at the stage as he makes his final waves, feeling the exhilaration of another incredible show with his brothers. His head gradually makes the turn it’s been itching to make all night, squinting out as he makes eye contact with you just quick enough. He can see the heaving of your chest, the waviness of your legs. Your furrowed brows, and your mouth open in the smallest of pained ‘O’ that can’t quite make a sound. He’s seeing the panic and exhaustion in your eyes. You see his face change, going from his beautiful smiling face, to a look of fear, a look of panic that you’ve never seen before. You think he started running, but everything was spinning together, movement just becoming a blur. His chest stopped, and then felt like it cracked as he saw your eyes rolling to the back of your head.
This all happened in a span of approximately ten seconds, but you felt like it had been hours, and he shouts something out.
You didn’t quite catch that before you hit the ground.
__
Your senses come back one by one, each with a moment of understanding. A few hours had passed before your eyes began fluttering. You were peaking through a heavy squint, waking up in a room that was much too bright when the world outside is still much too dark. The beeping came next, as if cotton was slowly removed from your eardrums as the steady pulses started registering in your brain. Hearing the machines running as you follow the wires, that’s when you became aware of the needles in your arm. Your mouth felt as if it had been full of sand, desperately in need of hydration. And the first thing you felt was Calum’s head resting on your thigh, and his fingers laced with yours.
He’s been weaving in and out of sleep for an hour, the tears, adrenaline, and anxiety having finally worn him down. The image of you collapsing to the ground, unconscious and drained, was stuck on a loop behind his eyelids. Your eyes rolling back, your knees giving out, your head hitting the ground; it’s haunting him. He couldn’t begin to explain the things he felt in those moments, having burned deep in his chest as he yelled out your name. It was strained, cracking at the end with a tinge of desperation. He doesn’t remember the EMTs showing up, or how he managed to answer them, or making his way to the ambulance as the gurney was loaded in. Nothing was processed until he had been stuck in a private waiting area, holding his head as the panic set in. Ashton, Luke, and Michael had immediately jumped in a car to the hospital, worried for the state the both of you were in.
Ashton is sitting in the chair next to him now in your room, and he notices you coming to. With hope shining through his weary irises, he leaned toward his best friend. The slightest touch to Calum’s shoulder had him abruptly sitting up with a sharp gasp, before his head turned to you.
Tears immediately clouded his vision as Cal whispered, “Oh thank god. F-fuck, [Y/N] you’re okay. I’m- shit, m’so sorry angel,” before kissing your hand a million times before cupping your face.
“Cal… Baby you have nothing to be sorry for, you tried to help me,” you respond through your heavy sniffles and tired voice. “It came out of nowhere, I don’t know what happened... Why am I here?”
“You were dehydrated, you didn’t have any food in your system but a lot of medication, and you’ve apparently developed pneumonia on top of the flu. They’re keeping you until mornin’ to get some fluid and antibiotics in you.” The shock settles in your features, but before anything else is said, a nurse makes her way into the room.
She gives you both a soft smile with bright eyes as she says, “Ms. [Y/L/N], I’m so glad to see you’re awake. Do you know what happened? Or, why you’re here?” You give her a small nod as Calum settles in to his chair, telling the nurse he gave you a basic rundown of the state you’re in. She nods as she looks back at you, the same gentle and kind eyes locking with yours as she says, “You gave everyone quite the scare back there. You need to take it easy the next two weeks, so the doctor has put you on at-home bed rest for at least that long. We’ll give you written instructions and treatment before you leave, but I believe Mr. Hood here will be keeping a close eye on you too.” She flashes you both a knowing look, saying to you as she makes her way out, “You’ve got a good man there, [Y/N]. I think you’ll be just fine,” before she’s gone.
Ashton had snuck out of the room at some point, but you’re still speaking in whispers when you say to Cal, “I love you, I can’t begin to tell you how much I love you. I’m so lucky to have you, t-thank you for loving me. Even when I’m a stubborn little gremlin.” Your eyes were watering again as he gave a small chuckle at your comment.
“I look forward to loving this stubborn little gremlin for the rest of my life.”
ok hi so this was my first piece of actual writing ever and i’m super nervous about it but also really proud of it so i hope u guys like it!! i’m gonna tag some of my fav writers so hope u guys are ok with that :’) (but i’m also new to this so pls suggest more)
Calum wasn’t sure of how it happened. He didn’t know whether it was the moment you met, drunk on vodka at a friend’s party as neon flashes lit up the room. Perhaps it was on your first date when he took you to see the last Hunger Games movie. The day you were kicked out for talking too loudly in the cinema. It could’ve been when you finally met Duke and spent the first half an hour of your visit with his dog in your arms, unwilling to let go of him. Maybe it was when you spent hours baking a cake together, joyful laughs echoing through the room as you made a mess of the kitchen, only for your hard work to turn out practically inedible. It could’ve been late at night, when you confessed your secrets to the stars and talked until morning about anything your minds could come up with. The when, why and how seemed unimportant when you handed Calum the coffee he had been craving out of the blue, a knowing smile gracing your lips. And in that moment he knew he was in love with you.
“Please, tell me you didn’t.” Crystal sighed, looking at Kayla.
“I did.” Kayla whined, burying her face in her pillow.
“Kayla, if Michael finds out you and Calum fucked, he’s going to be pissed. Do you remember how mad he was when Ashton accidentally touched your boob?” Crystal raised an eyebrow.
“Yeah, which is why Michael can’t know that Calum and I hooked up.” Kayla sighed. “He also can’t know that I want to do it again.”
“Stop it. You can’t do that.” Crystal said, kicking Kayla’s shin gently.
“Crystal, you’re fucking my brother. You don’t get to tell me not to fuck Calum, you’re not related.” Kayla rolled onto her side and leaned up on her elbow, her head resting on her palm. “I just really enjoyed being fucked by Calum.”
“Stop saying that out loud, Michael’s gonna be home any minute.” Crystal laughed quietly. “Has he seen your new tattoo yet?”
“No, and I don’t think he will. It’s not exactly in a spot Mike sees.”
“What’s not?” Michael asked, standing in the doorway of Kayla’s room.
“Kayla’s new tattoo.” Crystal said, turning to look at Michael.
“Lemme see.” Michael said, sitting on the bed next to Crystal. Kayla lifted her shirt and showed Michael the fresh ink, a detailed arrow above the wispy words “follow your arrow.”
“Calum did it for me.” Kayla said, hoping he wouldn’t press the issue of the placement.
“He knows you’re yee yee.” Michael said, and Kayla scoffed.
“You’re the yee yee that moved us here.” She huffed, hitting Michael with her pillow.
“Cut it out.” Crystal said, taking the pillow. “My God, you’re like children.”
“No, we’re like siblings.” Michael grinned as he sent a gentle punch to Kayla’s arm. “Anyways, I have to take care of some stuff, so I need you to drop Kayla off at Calum’s office.” Michael said, looking at Crystal.
“Why Calum’s?” Crystal asked, side glancing at Kayla.
“Can’t I go with you?” Kayla asked, looking at Michael.
“I have to do this alone. Calum’s the only one available right now. Ashton’s booked with clients and Luke’s managing the bar.” Michael said, getting off the bed. “Get her there now, please.” Michael pressed a quick kiss to Kayla’s head and one to Crystal’s lips. “I love you both.”
“Bye, Mike.” Kayla sighed, rolling off the bed as Michael walked out of the apartment.
“He’s really putting you back with Calum as if Calum’s gonna do anything other than fuck you senseless.” Crystal shook her head and stood up.
“Should I put on something a little more sexy?” Kayla wiggled her eyebrows, causing Crystal to giggle.
“You’re a freak.” She laughed softly. “You’re fine in that, let’s go.”

“What do you mean nothing got delivered?” Calum asked into the phone. Kayla spun around in her chair, nearly dying of boredom. She had been in Calum’s office for a little over two hours now, and all she had done was listen to Calum argue with various employees and customers. “Alright, just keep an eye out, okay? Precious cargo.” Calum said, nearly slamming the receiver down.
“Your job is so boring.” Kayla sighed, continuing to spin around in the desk chair.
“You’re gonna make yourself throw up doing that.” Calum said, his eyes not leaving his computer.
“Throwing up would at least give me something to do.” Kayla whined, pressing her feet into the carpet to stop her chair from spinning.
“Why don’t you go help Millie with the filing? That’ll give you something to do.” Calum said, picking up the office phone. Kayla sighed heavily before getting out of her chair and leaving Calum’s office. She closed the door behind her and walked over to the receptionist’s desk.
“Do you guys have a break room here?” She asked, leaning against the desk.
“Down the hall, to the left.” The receptionist, April, said. Her voice was monotone and her dress was bland. Kayla sighed to herself and walked down the hallway and entered the break room, opening the fridge. She saw a container with Calum’s name on it and swiftly pulled it out. She opened the tupperware and giggled to herself.
“Always was a fan of Michael’s cooking.” She mumbled before grabbing a fork and taking a quick bite of the cold marsala. She closed the tupperware and placed it back in the fridge.
“Hey, there. Would you mind helping me out with something quickly?” Kayla looked up at the unfamiliar voice.
“Uh, sure.” She shrugged, walking over to the tall man.
“I just need you to stand here and watch for a delivery. I have to take a call for a client.” The man said, leading her down the stairs.
“Oh, okay.” She said, looking around the dock. The man walked away, leaving Kayla alone. She sat on one of the boxes and rested her elbows on her knees and her chin on her palms. “I was more entertained in Calum’s office.” Kayla huffed to herself, tapping her foot on the tile. She had hoped the man would be back before the delivery came, but with her luck, the truck came and the man was nowhere in sight.
“You work here?” The driver asked, handing her a clipboard.
“Yes.” She lied, signing off on the delivery. She handed the clipboard back to the driver and he glanced down at her signature.
“You’re Michael Clifford’s sister?” He looked at her.
“Yeah, how do you know Michael?” Kayla asked, looking at the driver.
“We’ve got beef, and you’re gonna help me end it.” He said, pulling out a gun and pressing it against Kayla’s stomach. “Make a sound and I’ll kill you right here.” She wanted to scream, but she was frozen. The driver grabbed Kayla’s arm and ushered her into the back of his truck.
“Please..” Kayla tried to beg, but the sound was caught in her throat. Flashbacks raced through her mind as the driver tied her hands behind her back and closed the back of the truck. She felt paralyzed as the truck began to move. She knew it had been a mere few minutes since the truck left Calum’s office, but it felt like hours. She could feel her heart pounding and her blood coursing through her veins, the sound deafening. Then, the truck stopped.
***
Calum was frantic. He looked everywhere and Michael was going to be there any second. “Have you seen Kayla?” He asked, stopping at the receptionist’s desk.
“Who?” April asked, barely making eye contact with her boss.
“Tall, blonde hair, green eyes. She was wearing a neon green sweater and black leggings.” Calum rolled his eyes.
“She asked where the break room was about 2 hours ago. Haven’t seen her since then.” April shrugged.
“I checked there.” Calum groaned.
“Then, I don’t know.” April shook her head and turned back to her phone. Calum slammed his fist down on the desk as he stormed away.
“Enrique, have you seen a tall blonde girl wearing a green shirt?” Calum asked as he passed his shipment supervisor.
“Yeah, I asked her to watch for a delivery. The boxes are there, but I figured she just left.” Enrique said, handing Calum the package slip.
“Are you fucking stupid?! This packing slip is from Heinz Mills. They haven’t delivered to us in nearly 5 goddamn years. You didn’t think that was fucking suspicious?!” Calum yelled, the vein in his neck pulsing.
“I didn’t sign for it, I didn’t notice it until she was already gone. I didn’t even know who she was.” Enrique pleaded.
“She’s about to be fucking dead.” Calum said, crumpling up the packing slip. “Clear out your desk. You’re fired. If I ever see you back here, I will not hesitate to rip you apart.” Calum seethed.
“Calum, where’s Kayla?” Michael asked, walking into the bullpen where Calum stood in front of Enrique.
“She’s fucking gone, Mike. The Raiders took her and they’re probably bringing her to Dixon.” Calum said, storming past Michael and into his office.
“I gave you one simple instruction. You weren’t supposed to let her out of your sight!” Michael yelled, following Calum into his office.
“She was getting restless just sitting her, so I told her to help Millie with the filing. Clearly, she didn’t listen. Fucking Enrique made her sit and wait for a delivery, but Taggart got her instead.” Calum said, sitting in his chair. He picked up his phone and dialed Ashton’s number.
“I trusted you to look out for my sister. It hasn’t even been a month since the last attack!”
“You don’t think I know that?! Mike, I thought she would be safe with Millie. I gave her the most isolated job in the building to keep her occupied. This isn’t my fault!” Calum yelled, before turning back to his phone. “Ash, Kayla’s gone. The Raiders got her and they’re taking her to Dixon. Cancel your appointments and meet us down there.”
“I should’ve taken her with me.” Michael shook his head, following Calum to the parking garage.
“No, that would’ve been more dangerous. She can’t go with you to your sales. Do you know how many times you’ve been jumped while supplying? Imagine what would happen if your junkies saw you with a girl like her. She’s safer with us.”
“She’s clearly not safe with you.” Michael rolled his eyes, sliding into Calum’s Range Rover.
“She’s safer with me than she is with you. Now shut up and track her phone.” Calum said as he pulled out of the garage, speeding down the side street. He parked in front of Dixon’s bakery, a front for the narcotics he sold with each donut.
“Her phone says she’s at the office. She must have left it there.” Michael sighed and got out of the car. Ashton pulled up behind Calum’s car and got out, Luke getting out of the passenger seat.
“What the hell happened?” Ashton asked, walking over to Calum and Michael.
“Calum was negligent and let my sister get fucking taken.” Michael said, walking into the bakery.
“Well, if it isn’t Michael Clifford and his ratpack.” Dixon smirked, pulling off his gloves. “What brings you to Sunshine Creamery today?”
“You know exactly why we’re here.” Michael glared at him. “Where’s my sister?”
“Oh, you mean little Kayla? She’s doing just fine. In fact, I think she’s enjoying some quality time with a dear friend of mine. Perhaps you remember him from the day you shot his eye out.” Dixon smirked at Michael.
“Where is she?!” Michael yelled, pulling out his gun.
“Fuck this.” Calum said, jumping over the counter and grabbing Dixon by the collar. “Where the fuck is Kayla?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know.” Dixon smirked. “You have fun in Ashton’s tattoo shop?” He raised an eyebrow and a sense of concern floated across Calum’s eyes.
“How do you know about that?” He growled lowly.
“I know everything.” Dixon smirked. “Now, unless you want Michael to know what you and his baby sister have done, I’d suggest letting me go.” Calum hesitated for a moment before releasing Dixon’s collar.
“Bring her out here.” Calum said, his hands over his gun.
“This is gonna be fun.” Dixon smirked to himself and walked into the back room. He came out, pushing Kayla in front of himself as a human shield, his gun pressed into her side. Her arms were tied behind her back and her mouth was taped shut. Blood dripped from her temple and the dried tear tracks on her cheeks showed her pain.
“Let her go.” Calum said, pulling out his gun.
“You think your guns scare me?” Dixon laughed dryly. “If you want me to let her go, you’re going to have to put your guns on the counter. All of you.” Kayla whimpered as Dixon tightened his grip on her sore wrists and pressed the barrel of his gun deeper into her ribs.
“Okay, okay, just don’t hurt her.” Michael pleaded, putting his gun on the counter. The boys followed suit, their eyes never leaving Dixon.
“Perfect.” Dixon smirked, removing his gun from Kayla’s side. He pulled the tape from Kayla’s mouth and wiped her tears. “Save those for when you really need them.” His smirk widened as he lifted his gun, pulling the trigger.
