Day 8: Soulmate AU
Merlin had almost given up hope of finding his soulmate. It happened rarely, but on occasion a person wouldn't find their destined one. Since he was a boy, his father's dragons, Kilgarrah most of all, had told him about the ancient word. That Merlin was destined for greatness, both in his own life and in love. He was destined to find someone special, and to develop his magic like nobody ever had before.
He was eighteen when he left Ealdor, still alone, still seeing black and white. His parents encouraged him to travel, to take Gaius' offer, to learn about the world before his destiny, whatever it would be, caught up with him.
And then it happened when he least expected it, on his first day in Camelot, when he was exploring the city. He was bickering with some royal prat, on his way to be jailed before one full day in his new home could pass - and then both of them had been silenced as their worlds changed to colour.
The Prince wasn’t as bad as he’d seemed. He was quite kind, actually, and beautiful. His eyes were the colour of the sky. Blue, Merlin thought. It was so much more beautiful than he’d imagined it.
They learned about the colours together from then on. Merlin’s hair was black, like ravens and the night. Arthur’s was golden, like coins and sunlight. The forest was shades of green, but their favourite place became the meadows, full of flowers in every colour imaginable.
And so his fate was sealed. He got married to Arthur, who grew up to become king of Camelot. Merlin was by his side, advising and protecting him as court sourcerer, the greatest one there had ever been.
