What is Camelot Countdown?

Camelot Countdown is a BBC Merlin prompt-based fanworks fest for the winter holidays that runs throughout the whole of December. There are 31 prompts, one for each day, and you can participate as much or as little as you like!

Rules

❄️No posting ahead, but you can post missed prompts at any time.

❄️You can post prompt fills into the new year but we won't be sharing fills after the end December.

❄️No AI art. All other types of fanwork allowed, eg fic, art, podfic, rec list, edits, etc.

❄️Multiple prompts can be combined into one fill.

❄️You can fill as many or as little prompts as you like.

❄️No minimum or maximum lengths. Go wild!

❄️No restrictions on rating, but please remember to tag appropriately!

❄️No racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc.

❄️No hating on actors, characters, ships, etc.

❄️You can post wherever you like, not just Tumblr, but for us to share your fill you'll need to have uploaded it somewhere you can link to.

❄️We also have an AO3 collection (also linked in the bio) if you want to use it, although it's not compulsory. It will close at the end of January.

❄️If you post a prompt fill to Tumblr, please tag @camelotcountdown so we can reblog it.

❄️Please also tag #camelotcountdown2022 in your Tumblr post!

❄️If you post the fill anywhere else (including AO3), please fill in the submission form (or link it in a tumblr post) so we can share it on this blog (questions include the prompt filled, fill link, and any other information you want included on our Tumblr post — no sharing of personal information necessary!)

Day 11: Spy AU

Merlin and Gwaine are a duo like no other. They are the best in their agency, able to get information out of just about everyone, perfecting each role they play. Camelot agency know that they can count on them to do their work perfectly and, most importantly, discreetly.

For a few moments, Arthur just held his gaze, looking at Merlin as their horses made their way down the path. The little dragon in his chest was breathing warm, comfortable fire. Merlin was so attentive. He noticed, he worried. He cared. The knights did too, but Merlin…from the start he’d risked everything to serve Arthur, and not just as his master, but as a person he cared about. He hadn’t had that before Merlin. Not since his mother died.

His gaze travelled over the snow-covered roofs, so far down beneath them, and suddenly he felt incredibly trapped in this high tower, like an exotic pet that was too precious to be set free. Like a bird in a cage, the bars too close for it to spread its wings. He could count on one hand the times he’d felt similarly, and most of those times had been about him being excluded from something other boys got to do, like play in the dirt or chase the chicken across the marketplace. Never this serious, never a man’s problems.
