Step Two: Collect Essentials.There are some things that no company can be without: A Phone: a mobile phone or a line that you alone answer is a must. Business cards: your name, your mobile number and a specialty statement. A Press Kit: As a consultant, are you a product. Advertise yourself! Quiet Area: This is not a "lifestyle", it is a career and should be treated as one. Transportation: A car or access to one is important if you do not live in a city. Client Management Software: Track and bill customers quickly to save time for the project. Step three: join trade organizations and local clubs this is not a luxury. Many proposals made and accepted on mixers and tournaments sponsored by these organizations alone. Compete with those already in business, you must be where the jobs are discussed. Step Four: Build a referral list.No you want to hire a consultant who has never heard. Use past experience to show your worth. If you were an employee that you can use your years with one company or agency as long as you have a voice on the phone to back you up. Explain to any references that you just heard and that when they refer to you they may remember this fact. Step Five: Ask for advertising when you finish a project to customer satisfaction ask them if they know of others who could use your skills .. Ask them to present you with a letter or phone call. More often than not they will oblige. Step six: "Reply" Ads.If you have a specialty company that you often need to be listed in the catalog or advertisement section of these magazines. Make a couple, introduce yourself and ask if they have had problems in your area of expertise, you may be surprised to know that they have been looking for you too. Step Seven: Stay Competitive.Continue to read on your topic, check your prices against others in your area and most of all, do not let your customers down: Take only the projects you are sure you can finish on customer satisfaction.
