We all know that the majority of Pride gatherings and events were formed from protests, but a lot of people don't know even a bit about Pride events in Canada.
For people living in other countries, that's all well and good - go learn about your own pride history! But to me, if you're a queer person living in Canada, there's no excuse. So read on, Canadians - here's one or two quick points!
The very first pride demonstrations were held in Ottawa and Vancouver, in the year 1971. But by 1973, pride demonstrations were being held in many cities across Canada - Montréal, Saskatoon, Toronto, Winnipeg and more. In fact, to this very day, the June Pride Weekend in Toronto is one of the biggest Pride events in North America.
