The rumor that a gay writer has joined the Season 9 writing team is CONFIRMED.

As our Anon mentions, his name is Robert Berens.

Writer Robbie Thompson tweeted the following on August 13th:

Hey #SPNFamily, please follow new SPN writer @robertberens. He just wrote his first ep & kicked it in the ass! #newblood #hishairisperfect

According to IMBD, Berens has previously worked on Kappa Mikey and Ringer.

As for his sexual orientation, Berens had tweeted the following on August 11th, indicating pretty clearly that he identifies as gay:

@OKBJGM Best thing about being a gay writer is passing the Bechdel Test w/o trying. The worst is struggling through writing het male chars.

We consider Thompson to be a reliable source regarding the writing team, and obviously consider Berens to be a reliable source regarding his own orientation. Therefore this rumor is emphatically CONFIRMED. (As always, visit our askbox if you have more information, or any rumors of your own!)

Notes:

We can’t extrapolate anything new about Season 9 based solely on a writer’s sexual orientation.

There's this Destiel fic I read a few years ago, and unfortunately all I can remember of it is a part in which Sam and Dean were youngsters and found Castiel in the rain. Castiel had fallen from heaven while playing a game of tag with his angel brethren and since he didn't know how to get back, Sam and Dean take him in. it was really cute and I never had the chance to finish it.
