WIP Wednesday
lil' Frank/Abby/Robby thing I'm working on
When Noah was three weeks old, Tanner came home from daycare with a nasty flu. Frank started sleeping in Tanner’s bedroom so he could take care of his son and keep it away from the baby. Tanner was back to leaping off the furniture in under a week. Frank, not so much.
With Tanner running around and a newborn, Abby needed the help. It really wasn’t an issue for Robby to come over when he wasn’t on shift. Stay there while Frank recovered. Help take care of both Frank and his kids.
working on a thing
Frank was probably looking at her like a mutated ghoul here to haunt him or suck out his soul, so that last part was pretty impressive. Frank swallowed and tried to get some control over his expression. “Hey, Cassie.” “Hey, Frank.” She slid into one of the two chairs across the table from him. Robby’d already wandered over to the water fountain to grab them a few cups without a word. He was giving them a moment alone to adjust to the reality they found themselves in. Frank felt a rush of thanks for him. “Sorry to drop in like this.” Frank shook his head and scrunched some of the hair laying against his nape between his fingers. It was getting longer than he preferred. “No, it’s good to see you. Good to see anyone, really, around here.” He knew his smile was strange. His face didn’t do it automatically anymore. He had to think about it. Like relearning how to hold a pencil. Cassie played with one of her hoodie strings and smirked. “Yeah, I remember.” “That why Robby brought you?” The soft scrape of hair rubbing back and forth between his fingers made this whole conversation feel safer. “To give me someone who remembers? Who isn’t in it, but has been before?” “And to have a buddy for you first meeting after rehab.” Cassie’s smile was nice. Just the barest hint of teeth. It wasn’t her patient smile, either, which was a relief. Frank felt like a patient to enough people right now. “You get out soon, right?” Get out. Like prison. Frank thought of the monitor on Cassie’s ankle under the table and felt acid in his throat. They should take it off her and slap it on him.
it's still a ways away, but mayhap someone will be joining our beloved @silverhandy in the shendon tag soon ...

thanks @a-way-we-go for continuing to reinforce the RobbyFrankAbbot bug in my brain
It was Jack that Frank was obeying when he fumbled the door open, but it was Robby who stepped past Jack to fit one palm over Frank's chest and the other between his shoulder blades. It was Robby who started counting and squeezing in time. It was Robby who Frank wanted to flee from even as he leaned closer. Jack busied himself getting a glass of water from the kitchen while Robby dragged Frank back from hyperventilation. It was their first time seeing Frank's new apartment, but Robby lead Frank back to sit on his shitty Ikea couch like he helped Frank build it all those weeks ago. Seven weeks ago. When Frank and Abby decided this was permanent. That their babies living in two different houses was permanent. That going to bed in two separate beds was permanent. That no longer having coffee together in the morning was permanent. That Frank no longer getting flowers every week for their dining table was permanent. That no longer leaving sticky notes for each other was permanent. And he didn't blame Abby. Could never dream of blaming or hating Abby or turning this divorce into some tv spectacle. But it was all so permanent. It became permanent all at once even though their decision evolved over months and months. Their decision wasn't made lightly. But the permanence felt as sudden as a sledgehammer. If they knew where he lived and where he kept his glasses and where the couch was so quickly, could they see all the places he kept his stashes? Would they know five minutes in the exact number of pills Frank had on him? Would they have an exact replica of the calorie count burned into Frank's brain in theirs? How long until they opened Frank's refrigerator? His cabinets? Maybe Jack already had when he went searching for glasses. Robby was still counting. Murmuring near Frank's ear. Jack was sitting on his coffee table with the glass of water at the ready. Frank couldn't hold it until his hands stopped shaking.
