Think about it...
...true restorative community, and ultimately positive change in the broader community, comes only when people intentionally choose to live alongside one another for the long haul
Gabe Lyons, The Next Christians
"Community in the church doesn’t exist to make my life easier. In fact, I fully believe that true community makes your life infinitely more difficult...In a community, you’ll relieve a little of your own burden while picking up a handful more. It’s beautiful, but it’s messy.”
Sacrifice
Sacrifice: the killing of a victim on an altar; the destruction or surrender of something for the sake of something else.
We live in an age of self-centeredness. We live in a world where our primary concern is ourselves. Many of us have adopted a consumeristic mentality.
My encouragement to you today is to surrender something of yourself for the sake of another. What better example do we have of this than Jesus Christ? We are enabled by God to forfeit the security we’ve built up for ourselves so that we can learn to rely on Him for all that we need.
In sacrifice, we learn to rely on God’s provisions rather than things we’ve built up for ourselves.
What are you willing to sacrifice for the sake of others? Look around you. So many people that walk the face of this earth do not yet know Jesus. Are you willing to go to them?..To speak to them? Regardless of their response to you. Regardless of whether they embrace Truth or think you a fool. Live in the Light today. Live in Sacrifice today.
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:5
Prayer
Prayer: To offer a personal petition, wish, or request to God; to communion with God.
-In prayer, we are able to express our adoration of God, our thankfulness for him. We are able to petition Him, confess our sin to Him, and intercede on behalf of others.
-In prayer, we are able to worship God. We praise his greatness; we acknowledge our dependence on him in all things; we acknowledge our sin; we acknowledge his provision for us and care over us as a Father; we acknowledge his love and mercy for his children.
At the end of the day, God is relational and he created relational beings. Communication with him needs to happen. He loves to hear from us and he loves to talk to us.
Open your eyes and ears today and receive his truth.
"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God."
Colossians 3:1-3
Thought for the day
“If you know you’re God’s beloved, you can deal with an enormous amount of success as well as an enormous amount of failure” (Henri Nouwen, Moving from Solitude to Community to Ministry).
