Except for a few minor quibbles, like the browser, I've really been enjoying it. I wasn't sure I'd like the controller, but it hasn't been as tough a transition as I'd expected. My cousin will lend me whatever he has physical copies of, too. So I'm not without games, either. He will be too preoccupied with college and holiday stuff to enjoy it, so I'm getting to try Final Fantasy XV, too. Hope to try Metal Gear Solid 4 and Phantom Pain at some point.

Just refuse the package when it arrives. Then it'll get sent back to them without having to pay for shipping again and they can issue you a refund.

They’ll just leave the package, that’s what they did with the one that didn’t have everything in it. It arrived while we were out and I found it sitting by the steps. I wasn’t even given an approximate date as to when it would get here, so there’s no way of knowing when I’d need to be home to intercept the delivery.

I’m still gonna try to get in contact tomorrow, but I’m almost positive they won’t do anything about it. I know a few things I’ve looked up have people suggesting to record conversations but I don’t know how you’d do that over the phone. All I can think of is to have my computer try and get it by switching to speaker.

Hey man, saying Samus as a trans woman would "erase" one of gaming prominent woman characters is transmisogynist. Trans women ARE women. The common idea that they are somehow not woman or that they "used to be a man" is part of transphobia and contributes to a lot of hate and violence being directed towards trans women. The reality is that Samus could have been trans this whole time without any "evidence" in the games. It really wouldn't hurt anything if she was.

I never meant to imply that they weren’t, but the “used to be a man” issue is definitely present in some of the articles/posts arguing in favour of her being trans and that poor wording (of which I’m also guilty) hasn’t helped the discussion from what I’ve been seeing.

My problem is that there are people saying this is the only possible interpretation and that anyone saying otherwise is wrong. Cause if I’m seeing people who openly identify as trans arguing against Samus being trans then that is muddying the whole thing even more.

Female video game characters that women can look up to - trans or not - are uncommon, and playable ones even more so, which makes this topic all the more volatile. Like you say, trans women are women, but if a trans person is having trouble identifying as a cis character it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the reverse is also true.

A question I see on both sides of the debate is “why does Samus need to be Y?” and both sides use the same reasoning - this is expected, but the idea that she can only be interpreted as one is what bothers me. If it had just been fun fanfiction or something then I wouldn’t have even brought it up.

Which is precisely why I’ve said every time now that people are allowed to headcanon Samus as whatever they want. There’s probably a really fascinating debate in all this somewhere about gender/racial identification of video game characters, but I totally lack the vocabulary or intimate knowledge to do that.

EDIT: While going back to grab some links, I reread a few of the posts and now I can’t find where it was saying she has to be trans - so it’s probably just the voracity with which people are arguing that makes it seem that way.

It’s like.. let her be who you want her to be, but respect how others see her, too.

I mean yeah that’s pretty much where I’ve been most of the time when looking for a relationship and I feel like it’s a pretty good place to be. I don’t know why there’s so much of this all or nothing mentality going around.

I do too, and I don’t really get the strictness with which other people approach these really all or nothing types of situations.   But my current theory is that a good lot of people have gotten out of relationships and decided to be jaded.  At the very least that’s the type of justification I’ve heard - “My last significant other hurt me so now I just want to fuck around” or “my last significant other hurt me so now I don’t want to risk anything on anyone unless I’m super sure I’ll be with them forever”.    Which really just complicates everything.

Something in between ‘the next person I date is gOING TO BE THE ONE I MARRY’ and ‘I’m literally just fucking around lol see ya’ which seem to be the only two common modes in the people around here
