shield bugs have more awareness than you'd expect from something that looks Like That, so even though i never really considered this until now the angle exemplified by this Carpocoris mediterraneus is actually kind of uncommon compared to the classic dorsal shot of them leaving. which is a shame because it's very endearing, it makes them look like a garden eel or like you could play whack-a-mole with them. does anyone have a big cartoon rubber mallet

On y verra Christine, un agrion cuivré, un barbu cycliste, une punaise et, surplombant le tout, cette mystérieuse tourelle (il paraît qu'elle abrite un appartement à plusieurs étages d'une pièce chacun...)

...et l'agrion est un Calopteryx (peut-être Calopteryx splendens ?)

a Carpocoris mediterraneus wandering through some Dry Beige Summer Bullshit™. i never really saw this species as camouflage-minded, due to both their sluggish behavior and their ostentation, but against a background like this all those reds yellows and oranges suddenly make a little more sense

even though they're generalists i don't see Carpocoris mediterraneus on carrots all that often, at least not as adults, when they're less concerned with hiding. this individual decided an umbel was a good spot to hang out in though, resulting in what was probably the most art nouveau bug i've ever photographed

the whitest of children, a Carpocoris mediterraneus nymph, keeping me company during a mostly bugless time. i can't give these things (and a lot of other hemipterans) enough credit for not being picky eaters and feeding on pretty much all the life stages of their host plants, ensuring i'm not deprived during shitty seasons. this area was a dry dead brown mess but this toddler was in heaven
