Let's be clear: Yes, old Disney films had racism in them.

No, Walt Disney wasn't "the most racist man in Hollywood" as I've seen some people claim. The racism in Disney films were actually considered MILD for the time period. Those crows in Dumbo were considered positive representation at the time, because the bar was so low. Look up cartoons like, "Coal Black and the Sebben Dwarves" if you want an idea of what was considered the norm in animation.

It actually drives me NUTS how many companies were built on far worse racial depictions, yet don't get nearly as much flack as Disney gets.

Fandom Problem #14,427:

Not a lot of cartoons aimed at teenagers. And yes I know children's shows can have complex themes and often have teenage fanbases and that many teenagers prefer to watch adult shows anyways. But rarely are there cartoon shows actually made with teenagers in mind.

Like, I'm not saying the characters have to have drink and have sex, but they would at least aware of sex and alcohol as things that exist.

Fandom Problem #11,944:

Mentioning that I did not like Avatar, the legend of Korra, and having someone rage at me that I'm racist and only do not like LOK because "Korra isn't white".

My brother in Christ, no one in the original Avatar is white either! There isn't a single white character, as all of them are Asian. So why the fuck would I now suddenly give a fuck that Korra isn't white either?!

(Also for anyone curious. The reason I did not like the show is because I did not enjoy the plot or the pacing.)

Fandom Problem #12,276:

I get we're all frustrated by hack dubs, but some cases of altering the dub AREN'T actually a big deal. Take the complaints about the Disney dub of Kiki's Delivery Service for example

"OH NOOOO! THEY REPLACED THE COFFEE WITH HOT COCO!" Ok, does that affect the plot? No? Move on. Coco is the superior drink, anyway.

"Gigi is voiced by a man in the dub!" he's stated to be male in the original Japanese version of the film. They just had a lady voice him to sound "cute." When I pointed this out, I got sexists claiming women's voices fit cats better and cats should always be girls...what?!

"They changed the opening song!" What, did you expect them to translate the song about a girl finding out her new groom already cheated on her, and she's going to tell his whole family, even though it had nothing to do with the story? Even most fans of the film are baffled that Ghibli chose that song.

There are dubs that actually BUTCHER the source material and censor major themes, and you're busy nit picking a dub that only changed minor details.

Fandom Problem #11,020:

As a former conservative, the way the Steven Universe fandom reacted to the Uncle Andy episode pusses me off.

She portrayed a REALISTIC PICTURE of what most non-politicians who identify as conservatives are like.

She portrayed the CORRECT WAY to expose conservatives to new ideas and change their point of view.

Did y'all actually think screaming and demonizing conservatives was the way to make them change their minds!? No! That's how you play straight into the stereotypes they have about you! People are converted through kindness and patience! People are converted through SEEING THE PEOPLE THEY THOUGHT WERE THE ENEMY AREN'T ANYTHING LIKE THEY WERE TOLD.

Rebecca Sugar understands this. The fandom does not.
