While I personally rarely use cash, I'm still an advocate for not eliminating cash in favor of other methods, and my experience today is the perfect example of why:
I have a Coke bottle bank that I fill with change I find in parking lots, a few bills here and there, and I roll up the coins every few years. I just got $54 in coins out of it.
The bank wouldn't change it for bills unless it was under $20, because I don't have an account with that particular bank. I'm with an online only bank, so it's not like I just tried whatever was closest and I could go to my bank later.
The grocery store wouldn't do it at all.
I decided to go to the plant nursery I was going to go to with the cash to see if they'd take rolls, and they said yes. I didn't end up finding anything, but the guy still exchanged it for me.
For real, no fucking wonder we're going cashless; the entire system is hostile to someone trying to use it for once.
Sounds like he was onto something here! @methodmanofficial predicting the future 30 years ago.
