I went through your blog last night and wow, you’re hard to shop for! :-) Then I got smart and went through your “music” tag and suddenly things became a lot clearer.
1) Rossini’s Duet for Two Cats, 1825. This is the cutest. And as soon as I decided on this one, I thought of the second one as a bonus:
2) Sit Down I Think I Love You, written by Steven Stills of Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. This version by The Mojo Men is infinitely more fun. Baroque pop from 1967.
this was my favorite thing when I was 13. Took me three hundred years to find it again.
This is what made me fall in love with these two divas (though I heard it on the radio as a studio recording. It’s just as fabulous here).
When I wasn’t listening to opera I was listening to NPR’s “Classics by Request” program and this was the first (and only) song I requested and when I phoned the host she asked me why I wanted to hear it. I didn’t go into the whole falling-instantly-in-love-with-divas story so I told her Part 2, that it sounded exactly like my cats talking to each other. She asked how many cats I had, and when I told her four, she was very surprised at how many that was. I didn’t tell her there used to be more than that.
anyway here’s two of my favorite divas singing a really funny little duet.
I can’t stop talking about this opera piece. It was compiled likely by Pearsall in 1825, using music from Rossini’s 1816 opera Otello, but as the name (duetto buffo di due gatti) suggests… it’s cats.
I found a video from 2010 where my bestie and I performed a short version of Duetto buffo di due gatti by Rossini. Dear god, I hate hearing recordings of my singing, but I did okay? Especially, considering I was put against a trained opera singer >_>
