#cat proofing

First step to cat-proofing the house! Starting with Kirb's tank because that's my biggest fear. I have some plans in my back pocket to work out over the next two months but any other tips or tricks from other cat/reptile owners are always appreciated.

More cat proofing...

Had to glue back the ear on my Youtooz Candy vinyl figure (five nights at Candy's).

Zoe has a habit of knocking things off shelves. So I moved the fnaf youtooz to a different shelf she couldn't sit on. Turns out she can reach her paw to it by sitting on the shelf below it. I already had to put away my Funkos because of this. Still better than keeping them in boxes lol.

So now all Youtooz are bluetacked down. Not only can it damage them, but they make a loud bang when they hit something on the way down.

Also, I added three mini safety pins to my curtains too. She found a gap between the big safety pins and squeezed through it at night. Something I'll doubt she'd do to get back out and therefore get trapped. Got no sleep last night with her curtain shenanigans.

Sometimes, moving a cat and stern voice means they know they are doing wrong. That doesn't mean they'll listen, though. Just pause and try again. I keep being tempted to use a water bottle. But apparently, that's very bad. So prevention it is.

I get to foster a friend's cat for a while (probably like a few years), and I've been tragically lacking live-in cat friends for 4 years, so I'm out here googling how to catproof your house like someone who hasn't spent half their life living with cats, lol.

House must be perfect for Widget!

All the plants must be behind glass because she's never lived with houseplants, and I don't want her to get poisoned (And I've been enjoying my cat free years by getting into cat unsafe plants).

She loves her cat tree, so we must get a new cat tree! Cat tree area has been cleaned out, and litter box area is in progress.

I also need to get her a cozy crate so she can free nest in it. This super helped another friend's cat not hate the crate for vet time.

Fish tanks will all have lids because I don't know what aquarium plants are toxic to cats, and I love my fish.

Lizards are moving to cat free room so they don't get stressed out because I love my lizards.

Thankfully, since my friends live like down the street and have had her since she was a kitten, I know her health history, her vet, her favorite food, her feeding schedule, and all her adorable misbehaviors.

Hi! I just read a post that mentioned you catproofed your backyard. Would you mind sharing with me how you did that?

Hi! Tumblr likes to not tell me when I have asks, sorry I didn’t see this until now! XD

I’ll have to post up a cat-proof tutorial, between my two hooligan cats, I’ve become quite the expert! The basics start with a yard that already has a fence- to secure the perimeter, you can get some bamboo sticks or small pieces of wood and attach them every six to eight feet (or every fence post, just as needed) at an angle toward the inside, (think 45 degrees, give or take) think of prison barbed wire liners! Run a string from the ends of the bamboo and then use that to hang some light bird netting. The cats will see something in the way of jumping up, and either try and fail or give up just with one look! 

Be warned- some cats will see this as a challenge, and will find any hole in your defenses just to be little turds.  If they dig under fences or gates, line it with a piece of wood or bricks. If there’s any furniture or things they can jump up on, strategically place things that will block the way, or add more bird netting as needed. 

Until you are positive there’s no way your little hairy prisoners can escape, do not leave them unsupervised for long! Check on them every five minutes, cause the moment they know your back is turned and there’s a way out to go exploring they will take it! 

If you don’t have a fenced in yard, I’m not sure what to advise besides teaching your cat to accept leashes if it means they can go on walks!
