So as of last night I have turned into the go- to angry cat wrangler. Which is a type of art form that requires reflex, patience, confidence, and accuracy. No joke. Basically one of the other techs took out a cat suspected of having a uti, felt the cat was going to hit its thresh hold, and put it into a small cage. I heard her say "oh shit" as soon as she did so, the cat with ears pinned back was going to be next to impossible to get out. She was pissed. The bad thing about small cages is you basically have to put half your upper body into it, have restricted movement, and the cat can easily get your face. I had it happen, not fun. Which is why I always put cats who have potential back into their carriers- you can always take the carrier to the surgery room where the cat can't get away, and take apart the carrier to get the cat out in a calm manner. Or not even take it out at all, just pin it to the bottom or the carrier, like I like to do ( with cat gloves and towels, mind you). So she tried getting the cat out with no luck, I tired just throwing a towel over it and grabbing it with cat gloves but the cat tried to dart around me so I shut the door. Next step, force it back in the carrier. Some cats will run back into the carrier, while others like this cat you have to get it in the corner with the carrier door semi closed, so when you push the carrier back the door pushes on the back of the cat and forces it into the carrier. She was an asshole but I got her in, and let her chill in surgery before taking the carrier apart, pinning her down as my coworker gave her a shot of sedatives. I love dexdomitor sooooo much, it most of the time makes the animal completely handable. I was able to get a rather large fishhook out of an aggressive pit bull's lip by myself after we gave it dexdomitor. We were able to get an x-ray of the kitty's bladder revieling a large bladder stone, the vet was able to do a physical, we gave her some pain meds, reversed the sedative and sent her home. She'll have to go to her regular vet in the morning to discuss treatment, but for tonight- she's stable. Personally, I prefer chihuahua wrangling lol.
