I can’t believe both Jack and Dex are consumed by Catholic Guilt occasionally. wow.

Dude yeah I am 100% for traditional masses. I live in Atlanta and there's an LGBT friendly but still traditional church here, the shrine of the immaculate conception. They even had a booth at Atlanta Pride. My boyfriend is trans and I'm lesbian and they were like "yes hello come see us" and it made me so happy. Imagine jack taking bitty to church once omg

I can’t imagine a Catholic Church ever being at a pride and i can’t imagine Jack ever converting because I think especially because of how he was raised and the pressure he felt from his dad he came to associate his faith with suffering and that he should suffer though his religion that was part of his faith and it always has been.  

I also can’t imagine Bitty ever wanting to go to Church ever, regardless of denomination because a large part of the culture surrounding homophobia is this religious backing to it. and I just can’t see Bitty ever being comfortable with that.

Also jack starts going to mass occasionally after bitty and the church in Montreal was super conservative but then he goes to one in Georgia over his visit and holy cow the boy is floored there are contemporary hymns and relatable non preachy homilies and holy cow those are two women holding hands through the entire service and he is like ????!!

my very first thought was “are there Catholic churches in Georgia?” so i goggled it and Saint James Catholic Church is in Madison Georgia and they say “We are glad you stopped by!  We are a small catholic community in Madison, Georgia where the weather is warm and hearts are warmer.” 

I have a hc some where on my blog (if you’re on mobile you might be able to just search Catholic to find it) but it’s about how they sing “There is a balm in Gilead” and he just sobs it’s horrible because he feels so disconnected from his religion. 

but also please imagine that he goes to a less structured Catholic church and it feels wrong. because I went from a very conservative Parish to the one i attend while at school and it’s still a Catholic service but it’s not the same it feels....almost more protestant so (because I project all over Jack) I think that that Jack wouldn’t be super comfortable with it. on one hand he’s so happy but on the other this isn’t right. and he doesn’t know how to feel about it.

Jack going to confession and when the boys ask where he's going he just says to talk to his counselor. When he realized he had a crush on Bitty his priest was the first (only) person he told. He was hesitant at first but heard how happy Jack sounded finally talking about it and was all "You must seek joy"

oh my goodness my boy. 

I head canon that Jack hasn’t gone to confession since he and Kent had sex the first time (he has a hard time reconciling his faith and sexuality) but this, this is so much better. 

Jack who does come around to it. and can almost find peace in it. I honestly can not imagine a priest saying that but wouldn’t that be amazing? Jack just can’t tell the boys about it because he’s heard them make jokes about religion specifically Catholicism and they hurt him so much so he just can’t let them know you know? 

but this is perfect.
