Hey Zaza :) first of all, thank you for all you do here. It brightens my day to see your kindness on my dash! Now I came here bc I recently came out to my mom, and I’m really thankful bc she took it well and made it abundantly clear she still loves me. However, she is catholic (so am I) and I know deep in her heart she views my queerness as a sin (one that I can’t do anything about, but a flaw nonetheless) and it hurts. Any advice on how to deal with this situation?
first off Henrike, your mom took it wonderfully- tht’s awesome, turtledove! i am super jelly, as my Catholic parents did not! but they got over themselves after time and a lot of convos. speaking of, are you certain tht she sees your orientation as a sin/flaw? have you talked to her about it specifically? if not, you may want to have a sit down to find out, it could help.
either way, if you want to feel better about the situation, then you’ll have to work on the only person who gets to decide how you feel- you. as we’re the ones who ultimate frame how we feel about any given subject. which means you can spend some introspective time learning to accept your mother and her belief system. you don’t have to agree with her, but you could make peace.
esp as we all have faults, your mum included, but what matters is tht we treat each other with love. if she loves you, dove, then focus on tht. hopefully the more she’s around you and sees how love-filled your life is, it will open her eyes and her heart to the reality tht adults loving one another is a beautiful and magical experience, no matter what their gender. all the love and luck to you in your journey!
