Lesser Dawn Bats drink nectar with their long tongues and are very important pollinators for fruits like durian!

Pollinator bats are some of the most delightful things earth has to offer in all respects, but most especially their little faces - which i adore most ardently. They truly are lovely!

Cave Nectar Bat (Eonycteris spelaea)
My mother observed me drawing this, and told me the eye looked too big. I’ll take any valid criticism, but the eyes of the cave nectar bat are, in fact, that freakin’ big. Look it up if you don’t believe me!
The cave nectar bat is a member of the Pteropodidae family, otherwise once known as the “Megabat” clade. (The term is now outdated.) Like nearly all pteropodids, this bat has lost the ability to echolocate, which is a shame because this particular species moved back into caves as their name implies. This is probably why their eyes got so big. These nectivorous bats are the main pollinators of the durian fruit, which is a highly valuable crop in southeast Asia.
Interestingly, Eonycteris is the sister genus to Rousettus, the single clade of Pteropodidae that has regained the ability to echolocate. As one would expect, Rousettus species have proportionally larger ears and smaller eyes than the members of Eonycteris.
