happy to please but seriously the howling commado legacies are under explored and even if they did, Marvel would fuck it up for 'drama'
The Howling Commandos are absolutely a gaping hole in Marvel’s canon that Trip proves they’re both completely aware of and oblivious to at the same time (also that yes they would totally fuck it up if given the chance).
To be honest, the Commandos were the AoS spin off they SHOULD have been planning. Trip would have made the perfect cornerstone around which they could have built it. There is no way the Commandos stayed out of the war with Hydra. There was a no way that Hydra would LET them stay out of it. Hydra are sore losers. Being deprived of killing Steve Rogers absolutely would have put them on the path to the next best thing, the Commandos, and it would have put the Commandos on the warpath for some serious vengeance. Hydra took Cap and Bucky both. No way the Commandos let that go unanswered. (Agent Carter proved they’re still going and I think this is what they were doing)
I’ve got a line in a WIP where one of Dernier’s granddaughters thinks “fight or don’t fight; Hydra will come for you all the same”.
To be honest I was almost expecting them to be the much-vaunted Theta Protocol. It made a heck of a lot more sense thematically than a helicarrier. (They won’t do it because they’re every bit as married to the ‘isolated superhero’ narrative as they claim DC is)
Imagine the look on Steve Rogers face when that carrier start unloading an army, every last one of them wearing the Howling Commandos patch. Imagine that scene from Ant-Man when Sam says 'I know a guy’ and a slow, dawning smile of realization spreads over Steve’s face and he says, “I know a few hundred.”
