was just trying to note down some interesting conversations in CCXP25 Day 1's spn session, and an hour later I realized I was practically transcribing the whole thing... (with some additional unavoidable notes to satisfy my destiel and cockles brain)
So I figure, what the hell, I might as well dump-share everything. The post will be long and capture most (but not all) conversations in the panel. You've been warned.
Here we go:
I can totally be wrong and delusional and all that (no need to remind me), and this can totally be unrelated, but I swear I saw that ring from some other cockles post where Jensen had an exact same or very close one. (but okay reasonably I guess most likely from Emily, still sweet!)
There were exactly three places where Jensen's name was mentioned during the panel, two of which came from Kathryn, one from Rob. We didn't get a reaction cut from Misha after each mention, but there was audio.
Host: If the Supernatural universe were to get a new spin-off, where would you like to see Claire now?
Kathryn: I'm sure Claire is out there, still kicking ass, taking names. There's always going to be monsters, and someone is always gonna have to hunt them. So I think she'd still be doing that. And hopefully she's with Cas and Jensen and Jared and the wayward sisters.
The very funny thing about this is: it really shouldn't be "Jensen and Jared", but "Dean and Cas". So, Kathryn, question, where's that coming from, immediately remember Jensen before Dean when you start thinking about who Claire would spend time with, besides Cas? Or to put it in another way, what is it between Misha as character and Jensen as himself that you're not telling us about?
The second time:
Host: Kathryn, what was the episode that made a mark on you, that will forever be your favorite?
Kathryn: That's so hard. I think my favorite episode is the one -- There's one episode that I was in, with Misha, and you know that guy, Jensen. (Misha and everyone: chuckle) And it's something -- they were in front of the car. (to Misha) Do you remember that episode? In front of the car? You guys are like sending me off my way, but you're like, "Go be a fighter, but also don't." But then you all are like, "We know you're gonna be a fighter," and like, "We'll have your back, if you ever got in trouble." Remember that?
Misha: I do remember it.
The third time:
Host: If Supernatural were a (survival) reality show, which member of the cast would win?
Rob: I think Mish would have a good chance. You're outdoorsy.
Misha: Thanks for saying that.
Kathryn: I think you've had --
Misha: And I can knit, which would be handy in the survival kind of set.
Rob: But Castiel not so much.
Misha: No.
Rob: He's not a people person.
Misha: No, he's not.
Rob: Who would win?
Host: Someone yells Gabriel.
Rich: Gabriel? Well, I appreciate your support. I'm not sure he would win. I think he's surviving in the wild. I feel like -- I put money on (Mark) Pellegrino.
Misha: Pellegrino's got a black belt.
Kathryn: He's like a tact.
Rich: And I put money on Tahmoh Penikett. I feel like Tahmoh Penikett would be a survivor.
Misha/Rob: Yeah.
Misha: Mark Sheppard. Actually, Mark Sheppard in any circumstances, he would talk any opponent to death. So he could take anybody out in that way.
Rob: Of course, Jensen Ackles would go -- (Misha: Right.) -- would do pretty well.
Jim: Who? (deadpan)
Rob: Jared Padalecki would do pretty well.
Rich: I worry though, because after a certain amount of time in the wild, their hairpieces would eventually give up and America would know they're bald and so that would be weird.
Rob: That's true.
Kathryn: I think Claire Novak would actually do very well. I don't think I would, personally -- (Misha: Claire would do very well.) -- Claire would be fine. (Rich: Claire would do well.) She'd do good.
Rich: (to Rob) You know, you do play God. I mean, wouldn't you survive?
Rob: God would do pretty well.
Kathryn: God would control everything.
Rich: You can like, control insects, like "stop biting me" (Rob: "stop resisting"), and weather, "go away".
Rob: But Rob not so much.
Rich: But is the answer would be God or is it Rob Benedict?
Rob: Rob no.
Rich: Rob dies immediately.
Rob: Yeah, Rob dies immediately, but God would survive.
Rich: In fact, Rob finds out it's a reality show, and takes his own life, 'cause he's like, "No way."
They didn't get a consensus on the winner as the question required, but I just loved so much that very tiny small moment right after Rob mentioned "Of course, Jensen Ackles would ...", and before he even finished that sentence, Misha was already like: "Right." Of course, that's Jensen, of course he'd do well, how can he not, that's Jensen, he can do anything, he'll win anything. Even if he couldn't, Misha would help him to, remember that's someone who built his own house with his own two hands?
And imagine that's not just a survival reality show, imagine it's the Hunger Games setting, all the cast (or characters) get thrown into the arena. Well, guess we already know who'd be the last winner and why, on what cost and who's the sacrifice. (That feels like a long fic I can work on in some future.)
Also, did I forget to mention how much I love Jim's shirt? And predicatively and satisfyingly, he used the word in his greeting. That just feels right. He's just too Bobby.
(More dialogue transcriptions below the cut, and we get to see who's the biggest spn know-it-all dork)
Quiz 1:
Host: What was the first character that died in the show?
Fans: Mary!
Rob: Mary!
Misha: Dork.
Rob: They told me back here.
Quiz 2:
Host: How many Supernatural seasons are there?
(Misha/Jim/Rob/Rich all raise hands.)
Host: Let's see who says it first.
Rich: (very quickly) 15!
Kathryn: I will say I thought it was 12 for like a year, and then I saw Misha recently, and I was like "12 seasons," and he was like "Emmm, 15." It's unheard of, it's such an accomplishment.
Quiz 3:
Host: What was the first case investigated by the Winchester brothers?
(Rob/Rich raise hands together)
Rob: Rich knows. Pick Rich.
Rich: Lady in white.
Host: (refer to Rob/Rich) This side is doing great. (to Jim/Misha/Kathryn) You guys are not doing so well.
Rich: We collectively have done a lot of episodes.
Rob: We're doing a rewatch podcast.
Rich: That's true. Rob and I do host the official Supernatural podcast.
Rob: That helps.
Rich: Supernatural then and now.
Quiz 4:
Host: To whom did Dean say yes to?
(brief quiet among them)
Host: I can give you the options, the first one is Abaddon…
Misha: (raise his hands very high, very excitedly/emotionally) I know the answer! Yes! Motherfucker!
Rich: That wasn't a character!
Misha: (hand still in air) It's Michael! I can't believe I knew that!
Host: But, it's Michael from the other universe.
Misha: Alternate universe Michael. Yeah, okay.
This one gives me so much destiel/cockles energy. Question about Dean, and the very excited Misha is the one who knows the answer, and it's about alternate universe Michael.
(Okay I know, to be fair, they were in the same scene, still, indulge me, at least he remembered.)
Quiz 5:
Host: Who did Lucifer possess and then impregnate Kelly Kline with?
Fans: (vaguely) Casifer!
Rob: (to Misha) You?
(all of them a little confused)
Host: We can give you some options. The first one is Mick Davis. The second one is Sam Winchester. The president. Or Arthur Ketch?
Fans: (raising hands to show "C" but yelling) Arthur Ketch.
Kathryn: (leaning to listen to fans) They were telling me, from my little house over here, that it was Jim. It's Jim. (to Jim) It's you.
(Misha reaches a hand to poke Jim.)
Jim: I haven't heard anything since I got here.
Host: (to fans) I think they know the answer. What's the answer, guys?
Fans: The president!
Host: It's the president.
Rob/Rich: Oh yeah the president.
Rob: (to Rich) You said it, the president. It's the president.
Quiz 6:
Host: What did Castiel suck from Purgatory that killed him?
(Misha raises hands.)
Rob/Rich: Wooooo.
Rob: (to Misha) Yeah you should know this.
Misha: So, who did Cas have to blow to get out of Purgatory, was that the question? (laugh)
Host: Yeah.
Misha: Leviathan.
LOL, that pun joke, I hear you Misha, you filthy mind just can't let the word "suck" without a blow joke, aren't you?
Quiz 7:
Host: We do have a really hard one here, but we can give you the options. What day was the first season released? I'm gonna give you the options.
Rob: What day?
Host: September 13, May 4, September 22, or May 12?
Rob: September 22?
Misha: September 13.
Even I have to think for a sec about the date and numbers, and Misha knows. Now who's the biggest spn knowledge dork in the room?
Quiz 8:
Host: This one, maybe one of you may know. How many children does John Winchester have?
Misha: Nobody knows. Lots and lots of children.
Host: That's a good answer. I'm going to change the answer to "Nobody knows," but originally it was 3.
LMAO, and that's indeed a good answer.
Quiz 9:
Host: (This one was a good one.) What did Cas give Claire for her birthday?
(Misha raises hands, Kathryn raises hands too)
Misha: (to Kathryn) You know, you know.
Kathryn: I got that one. Grumpy cat.
Kathryn was so proud and cute when she said, "I got that one."
Quiz 10:
Host: When did the last Supernatural episode air?
Rob: What year, or what date?
Jim: It's over? (deadpan)
Host: I have here the month and the year. Do you know the month?
Rich: Robbie you know the month and the year.
Host: End of the year.
Rich: Come on, Robbie.
Rob: Was it 2021? Jeez, I don't know.
Host: No, 2020.
Rob: 2020? We shot in 2020.
Host: And the month?
Rob: I don't know.
Misha: I think it's October…
Rob: October 2020?
(Fans yelling)
Misha: September?
Rob: November?
Host: November!
Rob: November 2020, yay!
Misha: We're on fire, guys.
Love Jim's deadpan jokes. "It's over?" here, and the one earlier when Rob mentioned Jensen, Jim: "Who?" LOL
Quiz 11:
Host: Do any of you know the name of the last episode?
(all of them a little lost)
(Fans yelling "Carry on")
Rob: None of us were in it -- no, Jim, you were in it!
Host: We don't have options.
(Kathryn leans over to listen to fans)
Misha: (standing up, excited) "Carry on"!
Rob: Yayyy!
Rich: You cheated!
Kathryn: I knew that! I knew that!
Rich: No you did not know that.
Kathryn: It felt right. It's such a beautiful way to end it, right?
Rich: Doesn't ring a bell. (deadpans)
This is the context for the next question when Misha answered, "the episode titled Carry On". He got the idea from here.
(Quizzes over, start questions for everyone's personal opinions about the series)
Question 1:
Host: The first one is to Misha. If Supernatural were filmed today, which episode would you like to remake, and why?
Misha: I would like to remake the episode titled "Carry on". And have it focus more on the character Castiel.
(Rich probably rolled his eyes outside the camera)
Misha: (to Rich) Don't roll your eyes at me, Richard Speight.
Rob: You're getting a lot of judgment over here.
Jim: Focus more? He wasn't even in it.
Misha: Exactly!
Love Jim's "Focus more? He wasn't even in it."
Exactly!
Question 2:
Host: Richard, if you could switch character for one episode, who would you choose to play?
Rich: Abaddon.
It's becoming such a standard answer to a standard question, just like Misha's answer to "Who would you like to act body-swapping with" or "Who else would you like to play apart from Cas", and the answer has now been fixed to Rowena.
Question 3:
Host: Jim, you appeared in almost every season of Supernatural.
Jim: Every season. (Not almost!)
Host: So, do you have any backstage moment that it was really nice and you never got an opportunity to share?
Jim: That's very personal. (hesitating)
Host: I promise we can keep secret. Right, guys?
Jim: Oh boy. I had some offstage fun with some colleagues. Who shall go nameless. Except that they weren't Mark Sheppard.
Host: Thank you so much for sharing.
Rob: You heard it here, folks.
Jim: Well, that was a let-down, wasn't it?
Nice touch about namedropping Mark Sheppard there, but actually I think I might know who or which period he's talking about. They touched the topic when Rob/Rich interviewed Jim in Supernatural podcast in season 4 or 5, there was some really good on-camera and off-camera chemistry and actual relationship there. So he said "personal" and "offstage fun with colleague", that seemed to be referring to that.
Question 4:
Host: Kathryn, what was the episode that made a mark on you, that will forever be your favorite?
Kathryn: That's so hard. I think my favorite episode is the one -- There's one episode that I was in, with Misha, and you know that guy, Jensen. And it's something -- they were in front of the car.
Kathryn: I think I was pretty young when I shot that. And I think just being there at that age with them, left a big impact on me. And I'll never forget it. And I love that episode.
Question 5:
Host: Rob, which supporting character do you think deserves his own spin-off?
Rob: Supporting character, loved by many, deserves his own spin-off. I have to go with Misha Collins as Castiel, in his own spin-off will be perfect.
Jim: Thanks, Rob. (deadpan)
Rob: Oh don't be mad. You guys can be in it.
Did I say I love Jim's dry humor? Yeah it happened again and I loved it.
Question 6:
Host: This one is for all of you to reach a consensus. If Supernatural was a (survival) reality show, which member of the cast would win?
Already quoted above, gonna skip here.
One last note: by the way, that fan-edit video at the end is really awesome indeed. Blood-boiling level of awesome.
