Okay so in one of my rps, Race is from an abusive family (Mom died when he was 4, dad was abusive as hell) and he ran away one night to avoid getting killed and Albert (With his dad, he was like, 10, Race was 8), found him curled up in an alleyway sobbing. They took him in. Can you maybe... write a lil on it?
Of course, my love!
Here we are, let me know if you like it!
Race was shivering by the garbage can. He was wrapped up in an old tarp that someone had thrown out. It smelled like old bananas and cheap cologne. He knew it was about to start raining. The clouds were swirling over him and he cuddled up even more, whimpering when he felt his broken wrist again. He sniffled and began to cry again, wishing his daddy would come and find him and apologize. Maybe he would take him home and give him a nice warm blanket and the soup that mama used to make.
But the poor child knew that would never happen. He just wanted to be warm and safe and now he was terrified the monsters in the dark would come and get him. Just swallow him whole like he was nothing.
So he just started crying. Daddy said crying was for babies. He said Race shouldn’t be crying because he had things other kids didn’t. But the boy couldn’t stop, hiccuping and fisting at his cheeks.
The poor kid tried to close his eyes, but he sobbed even harder when he remembered the way his father had looked at him. The way the man had charged at him with that broken beer bottle, how the eight year old had to climb out the window to get away. He knew something bad would’ve happened. Something really bad. Still, for some reason, he wanted to go back. Maybe he would at least be warm.
He wished he could watch his favorite television shows, where the kids always went home to the parents who he couldn’t ever see the faces off, but they’d always scoop up the kids like him and hug them and the kids were always so happy. Instead, he was sure the darkness would come for him as the rain began to fall.
But someone tapped on his tarp, making him gasp and scramble away. “I’m sorry! I’m sorry!” he wailed. “I’m sorry, I’ll be quiet!”
“No, no,” another boy assured, his flaming red hair sticking to his forehead because of the rain. “It’s okay! I'm sorry… I’m Albert, who are you?”
The little boy shook his head. “I’m sorry,” he whimpered again.
“No, what’s your name? My papa and I saw you and we thought you needed help, can we help you?”
Race stared at him with wide blue eyes, his pale face made the color even more haunting and vibrant. “H-help?” he asked.
The man behind Albert shushed him and took off his giant jacket, taking Race’s tarp off of him and sighed when he found the child in only a pair of ripped underwear. He gently scooped the boy up and wrapped him in his jacket, holding him in one arm and keeping a hand wrapped around Albert’s to guide him home.
The little blond boy was too tired to do anything but cry and cuddle into the warmth. He whimpered and gripped tightly at the jacket. And before he knew it, he was in a warm bath, the water making his skin feel tingly as Albert rushed in with too many bath toys and the old man with the fading red hair gently washed the boy. Race yawned as Albert splashed a rubber duck around in front of his new friend. “This is Spongie! He loves water! And this is Klive, his arch nemesis! You wanna play?”
Race stared at the duckies, barely even able to understand the words being spoken to him. He was too relaxed at the hands massaging shampoo into his golden curls. He was wearing swim trunks that he didn’t recognize and he felt cold and hot all at once. “Daddy?”
“Don’t worry, a leanbh,” the old man whispered in a thick accent Race had never heard before. “We can get you back to your daddy, do you know where he is?”
“He was real mad at me,” Race whimpered as more tears started to fall down his face. “He hurt my arm…”
The old man nodded. “Yeah, I can see that, don’t try to move it. We’re gonna call some very nice people who can help us.”
Albert began to put on a whole story for Race. “And then Klive goes like this!” And Race laughed tiredly, leaning into the old man taking care of him. “Yeah, he’s goofy. You like him?” The littler boy nodded.
“Yeah… can we play again?” Race asked as his eyes began to slide closed.
Albert frowned. “Is he okay, Pa?”
The old man nodded. “Yeah… he just needs some rest. It’s okay, now,” he whispered. “Close your eyes, child.”
Race couldn’t fight against that soft command. He let his eyes close, hoping that he would wake up and be warm.
Okay so Ive been hooked on this show for a long time and I wonder if you would have anything on it, Umbrella Academy but its Newsies?
Okay… there are so many different ways that this could go. This specific AU is wrapped around Jack being Klaus, but it’s also entirely possible for Race to be Klaus. However if we wanted to make a Sprace AU, Race would be Lila and Spot would be Diego. There’s just so many different possibilities so this is the Umbrella Academy AU Version 1
Number 1: Specs
Number 2: Spot Conlon
Number 3: Katherine Plumber
Number 4: Jack Kelly
Number 5: Racetrack Higgins
Number 6: Albert DaSilva
Number 7: Crutchie Morris
Some honorable mentions:
Snyder as Reginald Hargreaves
David Jacobs as Dave
Kloppman as Pogo
Hannah as Mom
Also, I hate the love fling between one and two. Can’t do it. I’m sorry. Platonic love between siblings is what we love here.
Criminal Minds AU? Just wanted to know if you'll ever actually do it
Criminal Minds AU
Welcome back to another Criminal Minds episode called “Amplification”
TW: deadly desease
Race hissed as he brushed past a rose bush and cut his hand. He shook it a bit as Jack walked on past him. This was no easy case and the young agent refused to slow it down with a minor cut. People were dying. A new strain of Anthrax was being passed around by someone deliberately trying to terrorize the public. And they might just be standing outside that person’s house.
When Jack’s phone rang, he stopped to answer it, not realizing his partner continued walking. “Spottie, we’re here now,” he assured, listening intently to the man on the other end of the phone. The sprinkler turning on behind him made him jump a bit and grab for his gun. He sighed as he made himself continue to listen. “What d’you mean the lab is clean?” he asked. “You’re sure?” He turned back to the house. “Hey, Race, Spot says— Race?” he squinted. “Racer?” Now he was beginning to get concerned. So he rushed inside only to have a sliding door to his left slammed shut. “What the hell are you doing, kid?! Open the damn door!”
But Race was shaking his head. “No! You have to get out of here! Don’t break the glass! Get out!” the genius boy yelled at him.
That’s when Jack saw it. A broken vile of white powder on the ground. “Shit, boy…” he breathed. “Race—“
“Get out of here, Jack,” Race insisted. “I’m sorry… I’m so sorry…”
All Jack could do was leave him there and rush out of the house, calling for the rest of his team.
—
“How’s Tony doing?” Denton asked, walking hastily up to Jack.
“He won’t tell me. The air is blasting and there’s white powder all over the floor,” Jack responded, walking back to the house with his boss. “I shoulda been right there with him—“
“I won’t waste time second guessing,” Denton ordered. “What do we know?”
Clenching his jaw a bit, Jack nodded. “Nicols is dead. Blunt first trauma to the head. Race thinks he’s been dead for two or three days. He can’t be our perp. But he took the vaccine. So he’s gonna be okay, right?”
Denton sighed. “We have an ambulance on the way, Kelly. I know you’re worried for Tony, but don’t let that cloud your judgment or ability to solve this case,” he insisted.
“That’s not an answer,” Jack insisted. “Will he be okay?”
Denton looked over at the young man. “I don’t know.”
Jack swallowed hard. He pulled out his phone and called his best friend, putting his phone on sound. “Jack… I really messed up this time,” Race answered.
Looking through the window and spotting the boy, Jack shook his head. “No. We’re gonna get you out and to the hospital, okay? I just need you to listen to me and trust me.”
“I’m staying right here, Jackie,” Race said without any hesitation. “I’m already exposed. The best thing I can do is try to figure out if there’s a cure. All the evidence is in here.”
“No, no, you’re going to the hospital, kid, because that’s what we do when we’re exposed to a major illness that can kill us overnight—“ Jack began as though he was speaking to a child.
Denton cut him off before he could finish. “Kelly, he’s right,” he argued. “If he’s already exposed, there isn’t much we can do for him. His best bet is to stay there and try to figure out who killed our doctor.”
Jack’s eyebrows raised in shock. “Are you actually serious right now?” he demanded. “That kid is small and he hasn’t eaten in a day, he’ll get sick too fast—“
“I can hear you, Jack…” Race sighed into the phone. “I messed up. But I’ll find a cure, okay?”
Jack held the phone close to his lips. “You better find a goddamn cure.”
Race smiled sadly before hanging up the phone and waving at Jack, trying to tell him in silence that he’d be alright. Jack did not appreciate that at all. But he bit his lip and waved back, not about to leave his partner behind.
—
Walking around the room wasn’t all that exciting, but it kept Race distracted. That’s what he needed. A distraction. He saw a dead body, some bleeding out of its head, two desks, one tidy and one a bit messier. Notebooks that had two sets of handwriting in them were scattered around the room. The dead animals locked in cages nearly broke Race’s heart.
Maybe if he ever got out of this room, he’d go vegan. Those animals didn’t deserve to die like that. But he looked over at the glass dividing him from the outside world and sniffled; it might just be how he leaves this world too.
He shook his head, trying to focus. Two sets of handwriting. A partner. A protege. The murderer and the victim had worked closely together. Race dug around, trying to find any trace of a name, something that would give this person away. He paused when he saw the books stacked beside the desk. He sniffled and shook his head. “Don’t be stupid, Higgins,” he whispered to himself. “She’ll be okay…” He shakily took out his phone and dialed a familiar number.
“Race?” David answered quickly.
Race sniffled, rubbing at his nose. “Hey, Davey,” he smiled sadly.
“Hey…” David looked down. “How you holdin’ up?”
Race opened his mouth like he was about to reassure the other man. In reality, he’d already begun to sweat. His curls were sticking down to his head and his eyes were growing a bit weary. He was sure they'd be red if he could look into a mirror. “Uhm…”
“You don’t have to lie to me, Anthony,” David assured. “Just tell me what you need, okay?”
The young agent sucked in a breath. “I need ta leave a message for my mom,” Race whimpered. “I… I can’t call her hospital because the staff will be alerted but— but if something happens to me, I wanna say goodbye ta her—“
“Tony, everything’s gonna be okay—“
“Can you please just let me do this?” Race whispered, hugging an arm around his middle.
It was too hard to answer for a long moment. David wished he could hang up and have the day start over again, but he couldn’t. So he nodded. “Okay… go ahead, kiddo.”
Race sniffled. “H-hey, mama…” he said, trying to plaster on a smile. She was always good at knowing when he was smiling or not, just by how he spoke. “It’s me… Tonio…” He steadied himself and nodded. “I just wanna tell you that I love you so much, yeah? And… how… how proud I am ta be raised by such a strong person,” he whimpered, trying to clear his throat to be okay. If he sounded okay. Maybe he would be. “I think about you everyday and I want you to know that… nothing that happened was ever your fault. I love you,” he whispered. “Bye…”
David sniffled. “Race—“
“I gotta go,” Race rushed out before quickly hanging up the phone.
The door opened and Race jumped, standing up straighter and wiping at the sweat on his forehead. “Jack,” he breathed. “Lookin’ like a million bucks,” he tried to joke.
Jack was dressed in a hazmat suit and helmet. “Yeah, I'm thinkin’ a’ changin’ careers. I’d be a badass astronaut,” he smiled, allowing another person to come in with him as Race laughed weakly. “Kid, this is Dr. Kim.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Dr. Higgins,” the doctor smiled. “How are you feeling?”
“Fine,” Race insisted.
“I can give you something for any pain you might be feeling,” Dr. Kim offered.
Race backed away. “I feel fine, thank you.”
“Well, they can also help get you more comfortable—“
“I don’t want any narcotics, okay?” Race insisted brashly.
Jack stepped closer to him so Race backed into one of the desks. “Get back, Jack, you shouldn’t be in here!”
“Kid…” Jack breathed. “You’re fine. You’re gonna be fine.”
“Just ask me about the case, okay?” Race pleaded.
So Jack nodded. “They don’t think the partner was something Nicols worked with. Any ideas of who he might be?” he asked. Race almost answered, but was cut off by a severe coughing fit that made Jack flinch. He wanted to rush to the younger man, but the doctor put her arm out to stop him. “Race?” he called.
Race sunk down to the floor. “I don’t know,” he rasped. “I didn’t find nothin’… m-my head hurts.”
“I know, but I need you to think okay?”
Race wheezed a bit to catch his breath as he lazily looked up at Jack before crawling over to the other side of the room. “I s-saw something before… syllabi… and what looked like a thesis paper. No author on it, thought it was his. A study of Anthrax.”
Jack nodded. “Okay?”
“A student… this thesis ain’t his, he was helping a student,” Race decided, coughing again. “Jackie—“ his voice broke, so he cut himself off.
Jack pushed away from the doctor and kneeled at the boy’s side. The kid was shaking. “It’s alright. It’s okay, just breathe, you’re doin’ real good, buddy.”
Race shook his head. “He ain’t a science major,” he insisted. “Check social studies, s-somethin’ like that. He wants to save the world, not destroy it—“ He hunched over, coughing even harder. Blood dropped onto the floor.
Jack’s eyes widened. “Okay, come on, I’m getting you out of here,” he insisted.
“We’ll hose him down and get him to a hospital,” Kim insisted.
Jack rushed him into a small tent and began undressing him. Race shoved his hands away. “Go help Denton—“
“No, I’m staying with you,” Jack insisted.
“You really wanna see me get hosed down, completely naked?” Race grumbled.
Jack rolled his eyes. “Stop… I’m staying with you, okay?”
Race nodded and let himself be undressed. “Davey better take good care of you,” he whimpered. Jack scoffed.
“Stop talkin’ like that. Stand up, come on, you can do it…” Race did. But when the water hit his body, he gasped and felt his face head up when he realized how many people were there. “You’re fine, kid,” Jack insisted.
For a moment, Race believed him. Until he began convulsing again, coughing and spitting B up blood. Jack shook his head, catching the kid before he could fall. “I’m fine, Jack. I fleel fim…” Race blinked harshly. “I flin fn…” he shook his head, tightening a hand in Jack’s suit. “I flul… J…” His breathing picked up. He couldn’t make the words come out of his mouth.
Jack shook his head. “You’re okay, we’re taking you to a hospital,” he insisted, trying not to panic. “Get him into an ambulance!” he cried, gathering Race up in his arms as the boy began to fade, getting more and more confused by the second, his breaths becoming heavier and heavier. “You’re alright, I got you, pretty boy, just breathe…”
Race whimpered in his arms and by the time he got into that ambulance, he was unable to understand a single thing that came next.
—
Jack sat idly by his friend, eating a Jell-O cup and kicking his legs up on the bed. He breathed as steadily as Race did. It had only been a few hours. Thanks to Race’s big brain and Davey’s skills, they had found the cure and Jack would be here until Race recovered.
“Are there any more Jell-O cups?” a voice spoke from the bed.
Jack looked down at the boy and smiled. “Welcome back, Racer,” he whispered, handing Race the Jell-O he’d been eating. “How’re you feeling?”
Race slowly sat up and took a deep breath, coughing a little which made Jack’s eyebrow furrow the tiniest bit. “I’m fine,” he smiled. “Really, this time. How are you?”
Jack leaned forward. “Don’t scare me like that again, okay?” he asked. Race sniffled, nodding as a tear poked at his eye. Jack just sat on the bed and hugged the boy tightly. “You’re good, okay? I got you. Promise.”
Race was in the studio. It was late. Jack always came by late to pick him up after work and Race’s ballet teacher always let him stay inside to rehearse after class. Today seemed to be the day to get his frustration out on the world. He was playing loud music, so loud that he couldn’t hear the thoughts in his head, much less his father walk in the door. The boy just continued throwing his body around the music until he spun around and saw his dad leaning up against a wall, just watching him.
The teenager sighed and grabbed his sweatshirt, throwing it over his head and pausing the music. “Hi,” Race bit out. “How was work?”
Jack licked his lips and looked down. “Are you ever going to actually look at me, again?” he asked. The boy didn’t respond, gathering his things in his dance bag. “You know, I’m still your dad. Nothing really changed, not all that much, I just… kid, if I knew what I was doin’ I would tell ya… it’s all a guessing game for me,” he insisted.
With a shake of his head, Race just slapped one of Jack’s old hats over his hair. “It don’t matter, I’m hungry, let’s just go home—“
“Tyler,” Jack called. “Come on, kid. It’s been a week, why are you so angry?”
Race whirled around to face his father with a scowl on his face. “Because! Because I walked in on my dad getting fucked by my uncle—“
“Hey! Watch your mouth!” Jack scolded, walking closer to his son who was unnecessarily worked up. “Nothing happened! It was a dumb moment, okay? There’s nothin’ ta think about, nothin’ ta talk about, just a stupid mistake—“
“He hasn’t come around in a week, dad! He’s my uncle,” Race insisted. “He was always the one taking care of me when you were at work so I’m sorry if I’m afraid of my family falling apart!” The boy had tears in his eyes and Jack rushed to hold him.
The young man shook his head. “Hey, no one’s family is falling apart,” he insisted. “Me n’ Davey, we just got caught up in a stupid—“ Amazing, wonderful, “— moment. That’s it.”
The boy pulled away from him and looked down. “I don’t believe you,” he stated. “You were… he was all over you, you didn’t see the way he was looking at you—“
“Regardless, Davey is your uncle and he loves you more than anything in the world, he will always be there for you,” Jack explained. “Yes, I let him kiss me, okay? That’s it. We didn’t sleep together—“
“But you want to!” Race insisted. “Don’t try to lie, either! I know that’s what’s going on.”
Jack let out a breath. “Tyler James, it was a moment of weakness, okay? I haven’t so much as been on a real date since you were born, I haven’t had sex in years and Davey—“
“God, please, I don’t wanna hear about your sex life!” Race insisted, covering his ears.
Letting out a small scoff, Jack walked up to his son and took the boy’s wrists away from his ears. “What is it that you want me ta say?” he asked. “I love you, you are my one and only and I don’t need no one else in my life—“
“Don’t say that,” Race insisted.
“Then what is it?” Jack asked.
Race shrugged. “I used ta be scared that if you dated someone, you’d make a new family and replace me, okay? That was what I was most scared of when I was little, and now I know that would never happen,” he insisted. His dad looked heartbroken at that. “But now I’m scared that if you date Davey and it don’t work, that I won’t have Davey no more…”
Jack sighed. “God, kid, you’re killin’ me,” he insisted. “Can we please just go home? We don’t have ta—“
“Do you actually like him?” Race asked.
The words made Jack pause. Because he had been trying to figure that out. “Like” didn’t seem like the right word. David had been the only person to continually stick with him. They rarely fought, they were attached at the hip when they were kids and David had never questioned whether or not Jack could raise a kid when he was seventeen. “It don’t matter, okay? You’re right, that would be a disaster…”
Race scowled a bit and he put his head on Jack’s chest, letting his dad hold him for a minute. “I'm sorry. I just wasn’t prepared to see that, I guess…”
Jack sighed and rested his chin on the boy’s head, wondering how bad it would be if he let himself fall for his best friend. He couldn’t. Not if it had Race this worked up. He didn’t need someone else. He just needed Race. Race was enough.
May I ask for more premature Race bc Ima sucker for angst (basically baby brother race as i legit cannot write crutchie)
Here’s some premature Racer just for you, my love
They were in the hospital again. Race had collapsed and Jack had no idea why, all he knew was that he was panicking again, because there was his baby brother, twelve years old, laying on a hospital bed like it was his own. At this point, it might as well be.
Jack had never signed for this. He was supposed to be the big brother, not the mother, the father and everything in between. Yet, here he was, twenty three years old and completely responsible for everything that happened to the precious little boy in front of him.
It started when the child was born, nearly three months too early with an umbilical cord wrapped around his tiny neck. It was a miracle the tiny thing survived. That didn’t mean he was going to live a completely normal, healthy life. No. It meant hundreds of hospital visits, bills upon bills stacked up that Jack needed to find a way to pay. The child was beautiful. Jack adores him, but he’d only been meant to be the fun loving older brother. Now he was responsible for a child suffering from ADHD, anxiety, hearing loss, partial blindness, asthma and very poor social skills.
It wasn’t that Jack didn’t want to be here. Well, maybe it was. He didn’t want to be here because he didn’t want his brother to be here because the little boy deserved so much better and Jack was just sitting here, thinking about how he wished he wasn’t responsible for this child at all. As the guilt washed over him, the little boy’s eyes flickered open. He wheezed a bit. “Jackie?”
The young man melted. “I’m right here, Racer-kid, don’t you worry a single second,” he hushed into his brother’s right ear, brushing a hand through the boy’s thin curly hair. “How ya feelin’?”
All Race could do was manage a shrug, trying to blink his vision clear. “I dunno,” he admitted in a whisper, always afraid to talk too loudly. “Is Charlie coming?”
Jack sighed and shook his head. “He wants to, kiddo, but he can’t afford a plane ticket right now,” he explained. “I promise we’ll see him real soon, though, huh?” The boy sighed, curling up and closing his eyes again. And just like that, Jack’s small smile vanished and worry and sorrow took over instead as he leaned down to kiss the child’s head. “Just rest, little boy…”
The boy peaked his big blue eyes out from beneath those long eyelashes and found Jack once more before letting sleep consume him.
The precious child had been entrusted into Jack’s care. Jack couldn’t help but think it should’ve been someone else, someone better, someone special. Instead, it was just Jack, some college drop out with nothing but a high school diploma, two waiting jobs, a crummy apartment and all the adoration in his heart he had to give. “I love you, Racer,” he breathed. “I got you.”
They were in some hospital room again. And Jack would do whatever it took to make that room look like home.
Charlie woke up with a harsh start. He tried to sit up, only coughing and choking as he was laid back down gently. He was panicking, gasping for air. “M-my… J-Jackie…” he forced out between gasps.
“He’s still in shock,” someone insisted.
“J-Jackie?!” he cried. “Where’s Jack?!” Everything was starting to come back to him. That one goon had gone weak and even when they were finally home free, some force of nature still wasn’t letting them go home. “Stop! Jack!” he screamed. “I want Jack!” The boy was so frantic he couldn’t feel his own tears falling down his face.
In an instant, everything went black.
And when Charlie woke up again, he was tired, unable to speak, much less move. Things were… calm, quiet and plain. Everything was a bit dim. The curtains were closed and the lights were so dim, they were barely even considered to be on.
The child took several deep breaths, trying to wake up from this dream that could be a nightmare. He knew he must be drugged. This was just a trick, something to make him hurt worse later. His mouth was so dry. He wanted to call out for his brother, and another part of him just wanted to sit in silence and let this happen because Charlie was done. He knew Snyder had taken them back. This was just a trick to make them think they’d escaped.
They weren’t ever going to be free. Charlie knew that. He just wanted to crush the hope that kept trying to bubble up inside of him.
After what must have been an eternity, Charlie heard footsteps coming towards him. He closed his eyes as he heard something that sounded like squeaking wheels. It must be Snyder coming to wheel him back to that awful, freezing cold, smelly room. He waited for the inevitable. He was about to be moved. So he tensed when someone touched him, only to melt when that someone curled up at his side, sniffling into his shoulder and holding on tight.
Unable to even speak, Charlie could only let the tears come to his eyes as his fingers tightened in the sheets. Only one person he knew had such soft curly hair that would burrow beneath his chin. He slowly opened his eyes, hardly able to gasp as he began to silently sob.
This was a trick. It had to be a trick. Because there were those blue eyes, looking at him so softly and fearfully, silently asking him if he was okay. Charlie didn’t move. He just let the tears fall even faster.
The little boy curled up beside him sniffled. “I’m here, Char,” he promised. “I got you and I ain’t lettin’ go… we’re free. We’re free n’ I ain’t goin’ nowhere…”
Crutchie’s heart broke as he knew he was supposed to be the one trying to comfort his little brother. He didn’t believe this was real, still he decided he’d relish in this moment until he woke up and he offered the smallest nod he could, letting himself relax into the hold of the boy he loved more than anything, wondering if he too was dead and they’d left Jackie all alone in the world.
