sometimes i think that max might be jealous of mike's perfect family.

because from an outside perspective, that's what it is, right?

it's mike with his older sister who is cool and badass and not a horrible person, with his parents still together, with his two perfect siblings in his perfect suburban house.

and jealousy always hits that much harder when someone you don't like has everything you ever wanted (right?). lucas has his happy family, but she's happy for him.

when she sees mike, she just sees someone who doesn't appreciate everything he has. and when he complains about his dad, her hands ball into fists. (because he's just ungrateful, right?)

something has to change (1582 words) by sweetpotatoTM Eden follows the line of Suzie's vision to see—well. That's a ceramic Jesus figurine that has most definitely been chucked against the wall, shattered on the ground. Suzie's clutching at the base of it, a wooden pedestal with Jesus loves you engraved on the side. She looks around, taking in the sheer amount of random shit scattered in a halo around her sister who is almost certainly having some sort of breakdown. Fragments of ceramic, clothes, books, that clarinet that she always plays way too loud in the middle of the night. A duffel bag. Oh. _ eden bingham helps her sister run away from home. she can't leave yet, but suzie can.

“Christ, fine,” said the blond, dropping his hands from where he’d still had Mike pinned against the wall. “Fucking freaks,” he muttered as he passed by her. The comment didn’t even sting. Then her and Mike were alone, in the boys’ bathroom, and he was rubbing at the side of his chest. Max cleared her throat, shoved her hands into her pockets. “You’re welcome,” she tried, a halfhearted attempt at getting the mood back to the snarky back-and-forths she and Mike usually shared. It didn’t work. … max finds herself cutting in between mike and some random dickheads. that part was easy. but how is she supposed to comfort mike wheeler?
