Hello!! I really enjoy your blog and the way you share your practice! I did notice you called yourself a druid, and I just wanted to ask if you either were an actual druid or if you just use the word without the context behind it?
Historically, druids were the priestly class of Celtic cultures, requiring years of training and carrying deep cultural and religious significance. Even today, modern druid orders treat it as a path of study and initiation rooted in Celtic traditions. I myself grew up exposed to this before choosing a Hellenistic path.
Because of that, many practitioners see “druid” as more than just a general label for nature-based spirituality. Using it outside of a Celtic framework- for example, while working with Greek deities- can come across as dismissive of the traditions tied to the word.
There are plenty of other great terms (pagan, animist, witch, mystic, etc.) that capture a nature-focused practice without stepping into that specific role. Just thought to ask if this was an intentional use or if it was just unknowing? I’d just love to hear your thoughts on it as I know it made me pause for a moment 🍀✨
i’ll be honest, my only exposure to the term ‘druid’ previously has been in fantasy settings such as d&d! my understanding of the definition has plainly been a magic user who derives said magic from nature, and that’s always what i’ve considered my magic as being. given this, and the fact that the tag seems to be full of D&D content, i figured it was a lighthearted little tag. i didn’t realize the deep history i was appropriating!
thank you for the explanation! i wasn’t aware of the deeper history of it and i won’t use it moving forward. pagan, witch, etc, are all things i already call myself but don’t feel like enough to denote how important communing with plants, the wind, and more are to me. not that this is anyone’s problem, im just rambling at this point! i will find a substitute word for druid.
also, i love how you asked this. open ended and giving the other person the benefit of the doubt and the ability to explain their side. this is how productive conversation comes about. i hope any of my followers reading this learned a thing or two about druids, i know i did!
