It was a nice first ever ceramic market! Sold a few things, got my dad’s support for my own kiln and met a lot of nice people. I am glad that I made the people happy with my art. It really means a lot when someone just dives into my work and feels enchanted. For me that is the reason to make art. To make people feel enchanted and that they can swim around in some magic and beauty. Tomorrow will be the last day. (14:00-17:00) Also the last day of me being in that studio. I have not found a new spot yet, you know… Amsterdam and it’s impossible rents for the tiniest space… (TIPS FOR A SPOT ARE VERY MUCH WELCOME…) until I have found a new spot to call my studio/atelier, I will work from home and make piece by piece (tiny home, can’t do more than one project at a time.) Making paperclaykiln!

I was having a nice day in Ceramicmarket in Iitti, southern Finland.

People were selling their own works and others were building paperclaykiln. There was also really good cafe -pies, salads, pumpkin soup, chili-chocolade cake...

Things you have to have when making paperclaykiln:

bricks

wood

metallic grill or grate

some wire

paper -magazines are best, not newspaper

clayslurry a lot!

straw or other stuff which makes a lot of smoke

works! greenware...

Basic idea is that you make a volcano looking kiln using wood and wire. Under this volcano are bricks and grill. Under the grill you are firing this thing. Clayslurry magazines are covering wood that it doesn't burn down. Basicidea is to make a lot of smoke!

You can burn this kiln 2-6 hours. Unloading next day.

Quite easy, quick and fun to do. Suitable for kids also!

I wasn`t able to see the results of this firing, but Paula told me that it was amazing - a lot of black and white and good smoke marks!
